J'avoue que la derniére fois que je l'ai vu sur Dublin pour un anniversaire de The Crimson Idol le type n'avait tellement pas - mais alors TELLEMENT PAS - envie de jouer que ça m'avait terni le show... show sold-out, leader qui fait le strict minimul en tirant la gueule... je m'étais dit que c'était peut-être la derniére fois que je me déplaçais pour WASP...

C'est assez commun de mentionner les intros et outros par les fans sur le site Setlist.fm, mais c'est sûr que dans le cas présent ça ne fait qu'aggraver le sentiment de service minimum pour ne pas dire autre chose, d'autant que ce n'est pas la première fois chez WASP. Ce sera sans moi.

ça me fait un peu mal de taper sur le groupe, j'aime beaucoup certains albums, comme beaucoup je trouve Crimson Idol magistral, mais plus le temps passe et plus ça ressemble à une mauvaise blague sur scène.

Prends ta retraite Blackie ! Ca se voit vraiment que t'as plus envie de tourner !

Niveau concert foutage de gueule, j'ai vu le groupe à Mulhouse en 2009. Pas de première partie, setlist amputée. Ils ont du passer 1h sur scène à tout casser et joué ça :

11 titres vite fait, mal fait
Le pire c’est que dans mon souvenir, plein de gens semblaient heureux de ce concert. Alors que pour moi, entre les gros problèmes de playback déjà décrits et assez risibles et le temps de jeu en mode festival, on était clairement dans le foutage de gueule…

Le pire étant que Blackie, si je me souviens bien, avait annulé beaucoup de concerts sur la tournée Française dont nous parlions avant avec comme raisons que les préventes n'avaient pas été assez bonnes. Môssieur ne voulait pas jouer juste pour 150-200 personnes... Peut-être que s'il donnait des concerts dignes ils aurait plus de monde...

Mon plus beau souvenir de WASP c'est le le Z7 en 2007. Blackie qui se barre de la scène parce qu'un mec a pris une photo. La diva s'est fait prier pendant 20 minutes avant de revenir après une annonce du promoteur intimant l'ordre de na plus faire de photos

J'ai le même souvenir de ce concert Mulhousien. Tout le monde avait la banane, sauf moi !

Entre la setlist écourtée plus une organisation hyper stressante de mon côté, ça faisait beaucoup ! J'allais à la fac à Strasbourg à l'époque (Strasbourg-Mulhouse ça fait quand même dans les 110 KM) et après avoir pris mon billet pour WASP j’apprends que j'ai un partiel ce soir là. J'ai réussi à m'arranger avec ma prof pour le passer à un autre moment parce que merde, entre les études et WASP faut faire des choix Je loupe mon train pour rentrer à Colmar où j'avais laissé ma voiture, 30 minutes d'attente. Train qui a du retard. Il commence à neiger, j'étais tout jeune conducteur et là je commence à flipper d'arriver en retard à cause de la route. Je récupère ma vieille AX et là j'ai le GPS déconne, impossible d'afficher l'itinéraire. je prends la route quand même, je finis par arriver au Noumatrouff où je n'étais jamais allé. Je me disais "c'est pas grave, au pire je loupe la première partie...". J'arrive pile quand WASP est monté sur scène, parce que... pas de première partie !

Totalement lunaire. Même s'il y a toujours une activité culturelle en Popovie, ça ressemble à un effet d'annonce. Et still walouh pour la France...

Pour une fois Blackie semble avoir une raison valable expliquant la setlist ridicule et aussi sa prestation diminuée : il joue avec une hernie discale et semble morfler.
Ne valait-il mieux pas reporter la tournée?

W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless says that he has been performing on the band's ongoing European tour with a herniated disc in his lower back.

The 66-year-old guitarist/vocalist, whose real name is Steven Duren, opened up about his injury in a lengthy statement released via W.A.S.P.'s official web site earlier today (Tuesday, April 18).

He wrote: "I feel the time has come to address what has become an ongoing situation here in Europe for the '40th Anniversary World Tour'.

"It has become obvious to many of you that either watching the shows live or on YouTube that there is something physically wrong with me. There is. I've done my best to hide it, but there are times during many of the shows the pain is overwhelming, and it then becomes impossible to disguise.

"I come from a sports background that while growing up we lived with mantra's like, 'no pain, no gain', or 'don't explain and don't complain'. Right or wrong the last one here is what I try to live by. As boys we're told if you get hurt to 'spit on it, and rub some dirt on it', and just keep going. Most of the time we can. But, there are times, regardless of our desires, we simply cannot. I'm in the middle of one of those right now and I'm going to be as transparent as I can be to let you inside, and to let you know why you are seeing me at less than 100% in these shows. In addition to the physical pain there is also the personal pain and aggravation of knowing I'm giving you the fans less than 100% of all I'm capable of giving. For a performer like me this is extremely hard to do and also to admit to myself.

"For about the last 3 weeks I've been doing these European shows with a herniated disc in my lower back. For those out there thinking this is somehow age related, I assure it is not. It's been an ongoing situation stemming from when I broke my leg 10 years ago. I won't go into detail but I had a Doctor here in Europe do what should have been a simple procedure on me and he screwed me up really, really badly. Besides you all see me crawling up and down on Elvis [Blackie's mic stand] all night and that something few people can do at any age. An MRI done at a hospital in Berlin 2 weeks ago confirmed this disc problem.

"Not being a doctor I'll try to explain the best I can. When a disc becomes herniated it pushes out a jelly like substance against its outer ring. Then the wear and tear against that outer ring develops severe nerve pain as it begins to put pressure on the Spinal Cord. This creates mechanical compression of the nerves and releases chemical irritants that then lead to severe nerve inflammation. The MRI clearly has shown that the little holes that the nerve roots that attach to my Spinal Cord are extremely inflamed. Effectively the root nerves at the Spinal Cord are being choked and that leads to even greater inflammation that then moves from the Spinal Cord and can eventually go all the way down the leg and reach into the foot, causing numbness, weakness, and honestly... pain you cannot imagine. These doctors have all told me that nerve pain is the most severe of all pain. I am now a believer.

"Rest is one of the most common prescription's for injuries like this. But, this tour has suffered postponement after postponement. Never again will I have a '40th Anniversary Tour'. I told the Doctors, the Band and the Crew, if I can stand, then I'm going out there! Additionally I knew the fans, would never be able to understand why I just walked away in the middle of a tour like this. So now the time has come to tell you what these Doctors, my Band and my Crew have done to get me ready EVERY NIGHT to finish this tour. There have been several nights on this tour after the shows I could not walk again until the next day.

"After the MRI was completed it was determined I would need a series of Spinal Injections called 'Epidurals'. These are complicated injections that require the patient be in either a hospital or surgical center to receive them. The reason for that is if any of the injections go directly next to the Spinal Cord the patient can be paralyzed. It's an extremely tricky procedure. I promise you every time you're lying on that table you look around the room and see all that surgical equipment those thoughts run through your head. There's no way to avoid it. I received 2 Epidurals on the first day and then traveled to Tampere Finland to do the next show. I felt better than I'd felt in weeks and did the whole show, running around and climbing on Elvis and basically everything I do during the show… and it felt WONDERFUL! But, about an hour after the show I could not walk. So the next day we speak to the Doctors in Berlin and apparently I had undone most of the progress the first 2 Epidurals had done. I was told to take it easy during the show and I thought I did… but apparently not enough. I was then given an oral steroid that was strong enough to get me through the show in Helsinki. But 5AM the next morning I was back on a plane to Berlin, got 3 Epidurals at 11AM and was back on a plane headed for Sweden at 3 PM.

"These Epidurals are painful in themselves because when the medicine is injected it puts pressure in and around the Spinal Cord. When we were there on Saturday the pain was horrific and the nurse looked at the table I was on and it was covered in my sweat. The injections take about 20 minutes and it hurts badly the entire time. This nurse there saw my whole body was shaking and while the Doctor was doing the injections she reached over and started gently rubbing and caressing my left calf. I could not see her face but she could see the pain I was in and little she could do for me to stop it. I'm a big man, but I swear that I wanted to cry because here was a woman who had sworn an oath to help people anyway she can. It hurt so damn bad but just her touch was telling me she knew what was happening to me and that she was there for me. It was like an eternity of absolute hell and tenderness all at the same time. I will never forget her and that moment for the rest of my life.

"For the Band and Crew, you all don't see what great lengths these guys have gone through to get me and this show ready every single night. I see them all giving 110% trying to pick up the slack and there are times during the show I'll look around at all of them and I'll lower my head knowing what they are going through and pushing themselves to 'make it happen'!

"We are absolutely committed to finishing this European Tour. I'm scheduled for 3 more Epidurals in Berlin in 2 weeks. But there have also been logistical nightmares along the way that are direct results of the pandemic that still plague us and every other Band trying to tour in Europe. Those will be addressed in the coming days.

"So now if I haven't seemed to be quite myself on stage hopefully you'll better understand. I've been given every assurance by our Doctors here in Europe and in L. A. that I will be fine for the upcoming U.S. Tour. I'm a warrior and I pride myself as such."

J’ai vu la setlist, j’ai pensé à une blague…. Ils jouent de moins en moins de titres ou quoi.
Mon dernier concert, c’était en 2017 avec le Crimson Idol joué en entier. C’était un super souvenir.

Bon, en plus, je sais pas si vous êtes au courant de la petite nouveauté depuis cette année : le meet and greet avec Blackie.
Je ne pensais pas que ça prendrait en Europe après les USA…

pour 350 balles(concert non inclus), tu peux rencontrer Blackie(avec les autres fans qui ont payé), lui poser des questions, faire 1 photo avec lui, 1 avec son pied de micro, 1 avec sa basse Widow et tu lui fait signer 1 objet (pas de guitare )
ça sent la fin de carrière et Blackie qui prépare son pactole de retraite.

Je me souviens que la dernière que j'ai vu Blackie, il lui manquait une incisive et je m'étais dit:" Il ne doit pas avoir 50 000 dollars pour aller chez le dentiste!"

Ah ouais, ça craint, quand même !!! Je ne compte plus les groupes de première partie qui se sont fait éjecter…..là, ils vont porter plainte ? C’est une première !!

Il y a un groupe qui s’était même démerdé pour assurer quand même toutes ses dates avec WASP. Malgré que Blackie leur ait interdit définitivement l’accès aux backstages/soundcheck, la fameuse table de mixage, l’accès à la bouffe et le tourbus, bref, impossible de tourner……(je crois que leur « erreur » était d’avoir doublé Blackie à la cantine…).
Ca a dû le mettre encore plus hors de lui, de voir qu’ils sont restés, malgré tout. Et puis il y avait un petit remerciement à son attention dans leur album.

Et d’après des photos récentes, la fameuse dent ne manque plus !

Bon, à côté de ça, Doug Blair a organisé un concours avec l’aide de magazines de metal (suède, finlande…)pour faire gagner un cours de guitare privé par tirage au sort. Je crois qu’il y a 11 gagnants en tout. Après il publie des photos des rencontres, il y avait même un petit de 11 ans. C’est plutôt cool !!

In a message posted on Wednesday (May 10) on W.A.S.P.'s official web site, Lawless wrote: "As many of you already know I had a serious setback at the hands of a very unqualified Doctor here in Europe about 2 weeks into the tour. I've been receiving treatment at a hospital in Berlin and that team of Doctors has been nothing short of fantastic. But, at the same time they strongly advised me to stop the tour and go back to L.A. and begin my rehab. But it's hard for them to understand, this is the only 40th Anniversary I'm ever going to get, not to mention the fans that have stood by us this entire time have waited over 3 years, and because of the pandemic suffered 3 different sets of tour postponements.

"I go back to Berlin on Friday for 2 days for more treatments which means both the shows in Italy will be missed. At the start the Doctors there told me without rest and rehab I would definitely get worse. As hard as I've pushed through these shows, they were right. The show last night in Zurich was cut short by 2 songs, and I do apologize for that but the pain reached a point where I could no longer perform and it lasted throughout the entire show. My legs were giving out on me and it got dangerous. I will not be able to stand to do the remaining 5 shows, so the compromise I reached with the Doctors was if I would stay seated, in a chair to do these last 5 then they will give me clearance to finish the tour and do those remaining 5 shows."

The 66-year-old guitarist/vocalist, whose real name is Steven Duren, continued: "I've never done this before, but please understand, my intention is to finish this tour, come hell or high water, and give this incredibly dedicated fan base, that has been with us from the beginning, the show they have all heard about. Plus we're going to build the chair into 'Elvis'. Hey, he's been with us the whole time and he will finish this tour right beside me because he's basically one of the Band.

"But, as frustrating as this all has been I can't wait to get into rehab, and then destroy America.... Again, on the 2nd, and final leg of the '40th Anniversary World Tour'!! We are Coming Back....and we're Coming to Hurt Somebody!!"

La 2ème partie de la tournée US est annulée (et reportée au printemps 2024) en raison de la blessure au dos de Blackie LAWLESS, avec 2 hernies discales et une vertèbre cassée !

Because of the extensive back injuries suffered by Blackie Lawless during the European leg of the 40th Anniversary Tour, the W.A.S.P. 2023 U.S. Tour will be cancelled until Spring 2024. Tickets and VIP packages can be refunded at the point of purchase.


Blackie Lawless discussed his back injury, "The extent of the trauma I endured on the 2023 European Tour was far greater than originally diagnosed and surgery will now be needed to correct the problem. In addition to the original herniated disc, as that tour continued, a 2nd disc became herniated. Upon returning home a 2nd MRI also revealed a broken vertebrae to my lower back. I've been fortunate to work with the best specialists in the U.S. and I've been in intensive rehab since we got home. It's going well but the damage was pretty extensive and all the Dr.'s agree moving the tour a few months back will be the safest thing. It's all been as the result of an injury that happened several years ago. I'm working my butt off to get ready and I'll be up riding on Elvis... bigger and badder than ever. If the Torture Never Stops, then the 40th Never Stops!"
