Sources Noisecreep :

Veteran rock drummer Tim Alexander, a longtime member of Primus and key contributor to Maynard James Keenan‘s Puscifer project, has suffered a heart attack and is heading for open heart surgery at the beginning of the upcoming week.

Alexander is the current drummer for Primus, having previously been a member of the band from 1988 to 1996 and 2003 to 2009. He rejoined the Les Claypool-led group in 2013. He’s played drums on seven Primus albums, including the band’s two most successful discs — 1991′s ‘Sailing the Seas of Cheese’ and 1993′s ‘Pork Soda.’

In addition, Alexander has appeared on Puscifer’s two studio albums and one EP, and played drums on the Keenan-fronted A Perfect Circle‘s hit song ‘The Hollow.’ In a Facebook post, Puscifer alerted their fans to the news of Alexander’s heart attack and impending surgery, writing the following:

Calling All Cars! Rough news. @timalexander suffered a heart attack. Open Heart Surgery on Mon/Tues. Global Positive Thoughts, Por favor. @Puscifer We need our Herb the Ginseng Drummer aka Peter Merkin alive and thieving.

We’d like to send our best wishes to Tim Alexander for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Update: Primus frontman Les Claypool has posted on the band’s Facebook page, giving more details about Tim Alexander’s condition and upcoming surgical procedure:

Hello all,

As some of you may already know, our friend and über drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander is having a bypass procedure to remove blockage from arteries near his heart. He is a strong Herculean fellow and we all expect him to be up and around in no time but with all surgical endeavors we want to make sure he has the best energy working for him so let’s all throw our coins in the nearest fountain, wish on the first star of the night, blow out the birthday cake candles with him in mind, pray to whichever deity seems appropriate and generally send good thoughts his way so we can soon, once again, experience the glory that is the magnificent percussive rhythm of the mighty Tim Alexander.

Un nouvel album est malgré tout annoncé :
Primus is back and stranger than ever with their new studio album, Primus & The Chocolate Factory With The Fungi Ensemble, a tribute to the weird and wonderful world of Willy Wonka that hits shelves on October 21st on ATO Records and is available for pre-order now. Below, you can listen to Primus' rework of "Pure Imagination". Anyone else thinks this will be delicious?

Primus' classic lineup - Les Claypool, guitarist Larry Lalonde, and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander - is reuniting for their first full-length release since 1995, a darker, tripped-out take on the classic 1971 musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Actually, Tim Alexander recently pulled through surgery to remove the blockage from his heart but that went well with no complications and all signs point to a speedy recovery. Tim suffered a heart attack on July 15th.

"I really wanted to pay homage to a film [1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder] that was very important to me as a kid and very influential to me musically," says Claypool. "So that's what we did. And as opposed to just going in and recording the songs and playing them the way they are in the film, we twisted them up a bit...twisted them up a lot."

The album will be celebrated with a 22-stop national tour (dates below) that kicks off right after the album's October 21 release date, and fans can expect a surreal experience - with Primus chocolate bars, an abstract stage production, and Les Claypool in the signature purple waistcoat and top hat as Wonka himself. Wicked!

The LP will be released on chocolate-colored vinyl, but if you're as lucky as Charlie Bucket or Veruca Salt, you just might score one of the five golden records that will be scattered around the world on release day.
