"Jeff has just returned from Florida after spending a few days with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA creator and producer Paul O'Neill. It seems Jeff will be a feature voice on the upcoming, long awaited TSO album/production (called 'Nightcastle'). Jeff is NOT part of the upcoming tour though, just the album. This is exciting news as those who know of TSO have witnessed a spectacular like no other production in the world.

"For those who have little info on it, TSO are a world-renowned symphonic, classical rock band comprised of over 60 members including full orchestra, four guitar players, 18 singers, etc., who have recorded and performed original & classic compositions since 1996. Jon Anderson (YES), Geoff Tate (QUEENSRŸCHE), Michael Crawford (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), Jewel and many other known artists are linked to this extravaganza and Jeff couldn't be more proud to now be part of the family.

"The album's concept, songs and even details are completely confidential and no info can or will be given here until further notice but you will hear Jeff in a whole different light on the end result, it is another very exciting chapter in the JSS legacy.

A lot had been said about SAVATAGE doing something to celebrate the band's upcoming 25th anniversary. There's been speculation that this could be, as fellow SAVATAGE/TSO guitarist Al Pitrelli put it, “the exclamation point at the end of the sentence.”

Caffery is hoping for something more. "Me, personally I don't want to put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence," Chris relates."I hear all the plans that are supposed to happen, and I'm gonna do whatever the band's gonna do, but I would rather the band do a record and a tour and keep doing them. When I hear that there's gonna be an exclamation point and people are going, 'I'm excited,' — then I'm sad. I don't want it to end."

Alan Sculley at Kitspa A&E recently spoke with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA co-founder Paul O'Neill. An excerpt from the story appears below:

Paul O'Neill, founder of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, got the memo about the economy and looming recession. But he obviously didn't care what it said.

He gleefully reports that this year's edition of TSO's holiday tour features double the stage production of last year, an expanded band, orchestra and choir and a weekly expense of a half million dollars for pyrotechnics and special effects alone.

And, by the way, O'Neill hasn't raised ticket prices, which generally range from $20 to $50.

"In the beginning, some of our agents were like 'Now Paul, because of what is going on the economy, you probably should scale down,'" O'Neill said in a mid-October phone interview. 'Scale down? I'm doubling the thing.' (Agents asked) 'How much are we going to have to raise the ticket prices?' (I'm like) 'Ticket prices go up nowhere.'"

O'Neill didn't stop there. He had TSO's accountants find out which cities had been hit hardest by the economic downturn and arranged for special early bird ticket pricing in those markets.

"In some cities you can do family four packs at $25 a clip, per ticket, and in cities that were hit the worst, you can pick up tickets for the first two weeks at $20 a clip," O'Neill said. "So if you have a family of five, for a hundred bucks they can get three hours of the biggest rock show in the world right now, no exceptions, not even close."

O'Neill isn't blowing smoke (or lasers or flashpots) when he talks about TSO being in its own league when it comes to a visual production he refers to as "Pink Floyd on steroids."

"It was killing when we were designing it on paper, but seeing it in real life, it's so realistic," O'Neill said of this year's TSO stage set.

"I think over the main stage alone I think we're hanging 136,000 pounds of lights," he said. "The trussing system will be morphing and moving throughout the entire show. So you're talking like the biggest lighting rig ever that constantly keeps shape shifting like a transformer and we've arranged it so that at times the rigging lowers itself to the stage and the band members can get on it and they can run around, move around on the trussing while the show is moving on.

"In other words, we're not talking about hanging from a rope," he continued. "We're talking like the trusses come down, the band gets on, the trusses go back up into the air, and it's just never been done before. We're just trying to still stay cutting edge, cutting edge, cutting edge."

Regarding recent Savatage rumors:
"There has been some news floating around about a Savatage website update and other things Sava related.
I just wanted to clarify that this news is strictly limited to the re-release of the entire Savatage catalog as well as merchandise from prior tours that will be made available soon.
But just to be 100% clear there are no plans in the future for any Savatage recordings or shows!

The Classic Metal Show: Johnny, just answer the question right off the bat, and I'll get it out of the way. Is there ever going to be a Savatage reunion?

Johnny Lee Middleton: "Uh...pretty sure about that. We have something we've been discussing. There are some things we've been discussing, but that's all I can say at this point. Right now we are in the studio finishing up the TSO record down here in Tampa. Once that record is done, that will leave the doors open to do something else."

The Classic Metal Show: We've had Chris Caffery and Jon Oliva on the show several times, and they always say, 'it's all about the timing. If we had time...'

Johnny Lee Middleton: "It's all about time. At this point in time, Trans-Siberian has grown into something very large. We are late on our record. We are working on it right now. As soon as we get done with it, it's going to free us up some time to look and do some other things. That's when you may see some sort of Savatage thing. Right now we are just concentrating on finishing up the TSO project."

Mais le truc qui m'interpelle, c'est qu'il fait son projet solo, qui rapporte vraissemblablement encore moins que Savatage, et qui lui prend autant de temps que Savatage lui prendrait le cas échéant ! En plus, musicalement c'est quand même la même chose. Donc quitte à se faire plaisir, autant impliquer Caffery et les autres, et faire des tournées quand même plus sympas que les petits clubs remplis au quart qu'il fait en solo ! Y'a un truc qui m'échappe là-dedans.

"On the event of CIRCLE II CIRCLE coming back to Greece for a couple of shows Kostas Kyriakakis, Helena Mihailidou and Jim Hatzimoisis had the chance to interview Zak Stevens in Athens.

Zak told Metalzone.gr about their tour so far, how educative the show in Slovenia was, the upcoming Circle II Circle album which will probably surface early 2010, the DVD that is going to follow this release, which will include footage from their current tour, but also the feeling he has for his band nowdays.

However the most striking news Zak told Metalzone is that a SAVATAGE reunion tour is in the works, that he is already in talks with Paul O Neil and Jon Oliva in order to make the reunion tour happen and how it will probably include dates around the world. Talks about the tour will continue as soon as he returns home from the tour and possible kick off for the tour will be after the release of the next album of the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.

earMUSIC/Edel Records has set a March 2 European release date for "Still The Orchestra Plays: Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2", the official anthology from the legendary U.S. metal act SAVATAGE. The collection contains remastered classics plus three new, previously unreleased acoustic recordings. The limited edition of the anthology comes with the complete "Japan Live" show from 1994, which appears here for the first time on DVD.

"Still The Orchestra Plays" will be followed by the re-release of SAVATAGE's complete catalog — remastered and featuring bonus tracks as well as newly recorded audio commentary.
