Ils prévoient un concert hommage au ProgPower avec Wade Black (qui chantait sur Astronomica) au chant et des invités surprises.

The current members of CRIMSON GLORY — whose former lead singer, Midnight (real name: John Patrick McDonald, Jr.), passed away last week — have released the following update:

"We are proud to announce that CRIMSON GLORY have been asked by ProgPower USA founder/promoter Glenn Harveston to headline the ProgPower USA tenth anniversary festival on Friday, September 11, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia.

"It is both a privilege and an honor to perform at this now-infamous American metal fest, and we see this as a beautifully serendipitous opportunity to pay a final and meaningful tribute to Midnight in a truly special manner by including the fans, as well as a stretching of our collective wings in anticipation of a new era of CRIMSON GLORY.

"Initially we had only intended to come to ProgPower as a band to commemorate Midnight by presenting a memorial dedicated to his life and his work with CRIMSON GLORY. We had, of course, hoped for the chance to play the festival at some point in the future, but from the ashes of circumstances beyond Glenn's control, this opportunity arose for CRIMSON GLORY to perform sooner rather than later.

"This was totally unexpected, but after much deliberation between all members of the band, we feel that it is absolutely the 'right' thing to do.

"We see this as the perfect scenario for us to reconnect with the many fans who have followed CRIMSON GLORY over the years, as well as to present our music to those fans who have never seen the band play live. Indeed, we plan to use this performance as a bridge between the past and future of CRIMSON GLORY. As one door closes, another opens; as one chapter ends, another is begun; this promises to be a very intimate, magical and memorable event for us as well as for the fest.

"Wade Black will be the main vocalist for the show, but we are making plans to have several guest singers performing the classic CRIMSON GLORY songs and honoring Midnight's legendary legacy in their own personal and unique ways.

"John Zonner (SAVATAGE, CRIMSON GLORY, JON OLIVA'S PAIN) will also be joining the band for this performance and we feel very fortunate to have him sharing his talent with us again.

"We plan to film the performance in its entirety for a DVD release later next year as part of the 25th anniversary of CRIMSON GLORY.

"While we had remained hopeful to write and perform again with Midnight, the cosmic powers-that-be clearly had other plans, both for our departed brother traversing the stars, as well as for the rest of us still here, surviving together on this beautiful little blue planet.

"However, it does not mean the end... it never really ends."

Je trouve ça bien qu'ils continuent .... par contre ils ont une façon d'amener les choses un peu limite, je trouve ...

Ben justement qu'ils parlent de la fin d'une époque et d'une nouvelle ère sachant qu'il était déjà plus dans le groupe... je trouve ça limite ordurier !

Ca en particulier :

Ce groupe ne vaut plus rien depuis longtemps (depuis le depart de Midnight en fait!) et ce n'est pas cet album sortit en 1999 (album pas terrible d'ailleurs) qui aura rallumé quelque chose dans le groupe.
D'ailleurs Midnight n'a jamais vraiment laché la musique (ses albums solos) et le groupe non plus, et m'est avis que de mauvaises relations et de sursauts d'orgueuil aient empêche une "reunion".

Et maintenant ça "capitalise" sur sa mort ! Moyen moyen tout ça !!!

Astronomica, l'album dont tu parles, ben je le trouve complètement sublime ! C'était un de mes préférés des sorties de l'époque, et pourtant en 98/99 il y avait vraiment de quoi faire.

Il est ultra puissant, très inspiré, tous les morceaux sont géniaux, le chant de Wade Black est fantastique et chacun des instruments s'exprime à mort (putain la basse de Ben Jackson...), il est sans problème parmi mes albums de métal préférés, en fait.

Il m'avait mis le même genre de claque mélodique que Painkiller ou Hell Destroyer, avec une touche très particulière qui n'appartient qu'à Crimson Glory.
Je le préfère même à Transcendance. En plus il y a de tout dessus, de la balade sombre et hypnotique (the other side of Midnight, j'ai dû l'écouter des centaines de fois) à la grosse boucherie hurlée en passant par le mid-tempo mélodique, il est assez parfait cet album !

En plus, le concert que j'avais eu la chance de voir (avant que le groupe ne re-splitte parce que l'ambiance avait dégénéré parmi les musiciens, Jon Drenning n'a vraiment pas l'air d'un mec facile à vivre...) est un de mes meilleurs souvenirs, j'en étais revenu complètement halluciné par tant de maîtrise et de puissance.

Pour un groupe qui "ne vaut rien depuis longtemps", ça fait beaucoup.

Le groupe s'est perdu sur Strange and beautiful (on y retrouve la patte de CG, mais le délire est trop poussé et ça ne fonctionne pas vraiment, même s'il y a des bons trucs cachés dedans), mais à part ça, il reste un des rares groupes aussi "mythiques" à avoir complètement réussi son come-back en remplaçant un chanteur légendaire des années après.

Pour ce qui est de "capitaliser sur la mort de Midnight", je ne suis pas convaincu. Bon, je ne suis pas dans les pompes de Drenning et Jackson, donc on ne sait jamais, mais ce n'est pas très réaliste par rapport à leur attitude habituelle. C'est pas vraiment leur délire.

Du coup, impossible de résister, je suis en train de réécouter Astronomica. Putain, il est parfait cet album, c'est parti pour un mois de rechute.

J'ai été très triste d'apprendre la mort d'un des plus grand chanteur que je connaisse. Parfois nos démons intérieurs sont plus fort que nous.

Contrairement à certains avis je suis plutôt positif concernant le concert en la mémoire de Midnight. Je n'y vois aucun aspect mercantile mais juste une envie de rendre un dernier hommage à l'une des plus belle voix.

Je suis triste car qui connait la voix de Midnight? parmi tous les metalleux (et je ne parle pas des connaisseurs de ce forum) que l'on peut croiser qui connait Crimson Glory Ou Midnight? Je suis parisien et je vais de temps en temps dans les quelques bars metal de la capitale...mais personne ne connait Crimson Glory.

J'ai bientôt 40 ans et j'ai grandi avec leur musique...et je suis triste d'apprendre une telle nouvelle.

astronomica je l'aime bien aussi, bon pas tout mais y a de sacrés bons brulots dessus genre "war of the world" qui est une grosse boucherie ou "touch the sun"

Disons que je n'aime pas non plus Strange And Beautiful alors que Midnight chante dessus

mais pour ce dernier c'est l'orientation musicale prise par le groupe qui me deconcerte pas mal.

Pour en revenir à Astronomica ce n'est pas tellement les compos qui sont pas trop mal niveau musique ! mais je pense qu'ils ont fait un choix horrible en prenant Wade Black

je hais ce chanteur et c'est bien là le soucis !
Astronomica avec Midnight aurait été une tuerie !!!! mais là pour moi le chant massacre tout avec sa voix "criarde"!

J'aime beaucoup Astronomica ... c'est le premier album du groupe que j'ai écouté en fait.
Le chanteur me fait penser à Ripper Owens dans le genre.

Moi non plus je ne suis pas opposé (tfaçon mon avis....) à ce concert hommage. Ca me semble être évident quand quelqu'un disparait.
Je ne vois pas non plus la question de l'argent car ce n'est pas non plus un groupe qui fait raquer son public .... en dehors des 4 albums studios (et encore on les trouve pas partout) ... ils ont pas vendu grand chose.
Qu'ils vendent un DVD en plus de 25 ans d'existence, ne me gène pas....
Nan, c'est dans le texte que je suis un peu moins chaud... c'est cette histoire de "le moment de rassembler les anciens, les nouveaux fans .... une nouvelle page qui démarre .... Je trouve que CA , ca pue du cul comment ça sonne le faux... et même pire, ils me donnent l'impression d'en avoir rien à faire de sa tronche.

Former CRIMSON GLORY frontman MIDNIGHT (real name John Patrick Jr. McDonald) passed away Wednesday, July 8 at 3:40 AM EST. He was 47 years old.

Yves Campion / bass : "On this day of July 8th 2009, i have lost a brother, a genius, a wizard, an incredible mystical voice...
I have been so much inspired by him in my songwriting that i feel i have a part of myself that is gone...
Before knowing this tragic news, we had decided to include a cover of Crimson Glory on our forthcoming album, "Insurrection" to be released in September as a bonus track...But we didn’t expect this to happen..."

All our sympathy goes to your family and close friends and to all the Crimson Glory band members...
We will miss you but we will never forget you!

Je suis attristé par sa disparition, tant les 2 premiers albums de Crimson Glory représentent des classiques du metal pour moi, en bonne partie grâce à lui. Il insufflait une pure magie, un côté mystique et une élégance dans ces morceaux novateurs, quelque chose d'unique. J'ai du écouter Transcendance des centaines de fois, encore aujourd'hui un de mes albums favoris tous groupes confondus, impossible de m'en lasser.

C'est triste aussi par cette fin où Midnight semblait avoir de sérieux problèmes personnels et notamment un gros problème avec l'alcool (il s'est fait arrêter complètement bourré au volant y'a pas si longtemps), sans parler de sa brève reformation avec Crimson Glory qui a donné lieu à un piètre concert à un festival en Grèce où il était à côté de la plaque (voir sur Youtube).

Je n'espérais plus le revoir dans Crimson, il n'avait plus le niveau pour réintégrer le groupe donc ce n'est pas la question, mais quand même... c'est triste.

Paix à son âme.

"I am filled with sadness after learning of Mid's death. He was truly one of the most unique, heart-melting singers and lyricists I've ever come across. Through his work with members of my band, I was exposed to many of the songs he has recorded recently and can honestly say that they are some of the most epic pieces of high art I've ever experienced.

"I am so honored to have recorded a duet [with Midnight] on [a reworked version of the CRIMSON GLORY classic] 'Painted Skies'. When Matt [LaPorte; JON OLIVA'S PAIN guitarist and recent Midnight collaborator] asked me to do that, I had never heard the song before, but as I was reading the lyrics before recording my parts, I was simply blown away by the depth within his words.

"I had been planning on using Mid to play a feature rôle on an upcoming concept album by JON OLIVA'S PAIN, our first, but now I will sadly have to abandon such plans.

"God bless you, John. You touched my life and I am so grateful."

Keyboardist John "Spock" Zahner, whose studio and live performance credits include CRIMSON GLORY (1986-1989), SAVATAGE (1991-1992), CIRCLE II CIRCLE (2003) and JON OLIVA'S PAIN (2004-present), has issued the following statement regarding the passing of former CRIMSON GLORY frontman Midnight (real name: John Patrick McDonald, Jr.):

"My friend Midnight passed [on July 8] and I will miss him! Midnight and I shared many years both on the road with CRIMSON GLORY and in the last two years with Lee Harrison [MONSTROSITY] and my great friend Matt LaPorte [JON OLIVA'S PAIN].

"I am very fortunate to have written and performed music with him that will live; Because Midnight is timeless. Midnight was a creator of many forms of art which cannot be replaced for he was one of a kind.

"I close my eyes, and I see Midnight sitting on the carpet, weaving like a snake and playing his acoustic guitar while he sang. Not knowing why but creating beautiful music effortlessly! The happy and the scary faces he made as his voice was soaring above the strident chords. Midnight wasn't done yet! He was trying to re-establish his place in the pantheon of rock and metal singers. Up to the end, recording CDs full of new and amazing music. Here was a musical talent that won't be seen again!

"When I see the influence Midnight has had on other musicians in various genres of music, I'm glad that he had CRIMSON GLORY.

"His other band mates can tell the early stories. Jon, Ben, Jeff, Midnight, Dana, myself and the Morris brothers forged 'Transcendence'; a unique combination of majestic metal and mystic madness. That and other CRIMSON GLORY music have influenced many metal bands since!

"When we were in the studio recording 'Transcendence', Midnight would easily sing repeated takes outdoing himself each time. His view on the afterlife was there as well. Listen to the words, it's very obvious Midnight understood about the next plane of existence.

"On Saturday, July 11 , we had a celebration of Midnight and his music. Hundreds of friends and family came out to remember him at the pavilion on Siesta Key Beach.

"Dana gave his eulogy surrounded by his other band mates. It was a very emotional moment. Matt LaPorte gave a very moving speech about his connection to Midnight. There was something quite poignant in his words that I wish to bring up. Matt asked the gathering to look at each other because this particular group would never be together again. This special assembly was reserved for Midnight alone.

"After the balloons were released (all silver stars), we played some CRIMSON GLORY, SAVATAGE and THE BEATLES songs. The band consisted of Jon and Ben on acoustic guitar joined by Wade Black, Danae Drenning, Phil Anderson on hammer dulcimer, Matt LaPorte on mandolin, and myself on keys. The final song was 'Imagine'; it just felt right."
