The 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air 2020 is sold out after 21 hours!

The 31st edition of the Wacken Open Air, which will take place from the 30th of July until the 1st of August 2020, is sold out after less than a day. The advance sale of the 75,000 tickets had traditionally started after the festival at midnight on Monday, August 5th. Fans from 83 countries have purchased tickets.

"We are stoked that tickets for the Wacken Open Air 2020 have again sold out in a sensationally short period of time", comments festival founder Thomas Jensen. "The great success of this year's anniversary edition and our announcement of the first bands for next year have obviously convinced our fans that they can rely on us for which we are extremely thankful. Well, it also might be that the reason for this humbling vote of confidence is that metal god Rob Halford will celebrate 50 years of JUDAS PRIEST in Wacken."

"It is our declared goal to create an even greater festival every new year," adds festival founder Holger Hübner. "We can only thank our fans wholeheartedly for relying on our experience to put together another exciting band billing. Of course, metal music always comes first, but also the supporting program will again offer innovations. We will make every effort to live up to the advance praise of this quick sell-out."

we wish you all a happy Easter and some calm days in this difficult time.

In a normal year we would announce bands for the upcoming festival on today's Easter Sunday - but for this year we decided not to do so. Announcing bands while friends and industry colleagues are forced to cancel their festivals? That seems inappropriate to us.

The pandemic has been affecting the entire cultural landscape for quite some time now and of course it doesn't stop at the summer festivals.

We are all in the same boat when it comes to the pandemic. No one on the planet knows for sure what the situation will be like in a few months. And like so many of you, we are following the studies, press conferences, info podcasts and all the other sources of information with great attention.

But since we are "only" a festival organizer and no virologists, epidemiologists or politicians, we can also only wait and see what the future may bring. We don't presume to speculate and we can't evaluate the model calculations for the coming weeks. Instead, we have complete confidence in the experts and follow their advice.
Planning for the W:O:A 2020 continues

As of now there is no edict, law or other compelling reason that prevents the W:O:A 2020. So the planning continues, even though we, like many of you, have been working in our home office for almost a month now and video conferencing has replaced meetings.

Despite all the uncertainty: We are optimistic and hope to welcome all of you in Wacken this summer! Of course it is clear that in case of doubt the health and safety of all participants has the highest priority - as usual at our events.

If the situation regarding W:O:A changes fundamentally, we will inform you immediately.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are currently doing your part to help us all get through this crisis as quickly and as well as possible.

The list of relevant jobs and activities is far too long to be listed here in its entirety and we don't want to favour or ignore anyone - you know who you are! And even those who only follow the rules of hygiene and distance already make an important contribution.

Dear Metalheads,

yesterday, the German government decided that due to the Coronavirus pandemic, no mass gatherings will be allowed until August, 31st 2020. We are facing an unprecented situation in our 30 years: It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that there will be no Wacken Open Air this year.

Our whole team has been working intensively on the festival these last months and the more all of us are bitterly disappointed that we are not allowed to celebrate a Wacken Open Air with you. This administrative order affects us heavily and we will need some time to process the bad news.

Nevertheless, we support the decision of the German government in this difficult situation for the whole world. Your health and safety have always been and always will be our top priority. We as promoters are therefore bound to take an even greater responsibility and have to follow the instructions of the experts.

Concerning Wacken Open Air 2021 and options for your already bought tickets we will reach out to you asap but ask for a little bit of patience whilst we work through this. We thank you for your trust during times which are unparalleled for all of us.

we are working hard on the implementation of the ticket refund for the Wacken Open Air 2020 and the tickets for the Wacken Open Air 2021.

For your calendar: W:O:A 2021 will be taking place from 29.07. - 31.07.2021.

At the moment we are planning to present the exact schedule regarding the tickets during next week.

For the refund of your W:O:A 2020 ticket and the tickets for the W:O:A 2021 we will offer you different options from which you can freely choose from.

Also the program planning for the Wacken Open Air 2021 is already in full swing, the first announcements will happen soon!
