The motto of the new Molly Hatchet release, Justice, was coined by guitarist Bobby Ingram years ago. “Southern rock ain’t no fake or hype!” was his comment on the basic philosophy of the band from Jacksonville/Florida. This basic honesty, which runs like a thread through the band’s career, remains one of Molly Hatchet’s outstanding features to this day. In 2010, the group’s six musicians play every single note with lifeblood and conviction, giving their countless fans hand-made rock music that operates totally without computers or digital samples.
Recorded in December 2009 and January 2010 by engineer Tommy Newton and produced by Bobby Ingram in Germany, Justice consists of 12 songs in total and is a representative cross-section of over thirty years of band experience. Cornerstones on this album is the title track according to Ingram a successor of epic songs like "Fall Of The Peacemakers" and "The Journey" and the song "Fly On Wings Of Angels" which the band wrote for young murdered victim Somer Thompson . For him, Justice is a very special album as it reflects the most important aspect of a rock act : "We do what we have to do: we play music and take it on the road.”
The current Hatchet line-up consists of Bobby Ingram (guitars), Phil McCormack (vocals), John Galvin (keyboards), Dave Hlubek (guitars), Tim Lindsey (bass) and Shawn Beamer (drums). Simultaneously with the release of Justice (May 31st, 2010) Molly Hatchet will announce their upcoming extensive world tour and Bobby Ingram point out explicitly: “When we’re on tour we meet the most passionate Southern rock fans everywhere. We feel that we’ve succeeded in catching this passion on Justice, showing the world that Southern rock and Molly Hatchet still operate on full throttle.”

Pour beaucoup le « rock sudiste » est mort le 20 octobre 1977, le jour où l’avion de Lynyrd Skynyrd s’est écrasé… Pourtant, en 1978, moins d’un an après cet accident tragique, un autre groupe de Jacksonville / Florida sortait un superbe premier album qui allait redonner espoir à tous les fans de « Southern Rock ». 32 ans plus tard, malgré d’innombrables changements de line up et son lot de tragédies, Molly Hatchet est toujours là et s’apprête à sortir, le 24 mai prochain, son nouvel album studio. Attendu depuis cinq ans, « Justice » a été enregistré par Tommy Newton.
Membre original, Dave Hlubek est toujours présent à la guitare ! De 77 à 83, à l’époque des cinq premiers LP produits par Tom Werman (Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister…), aux côtés de ses compères Steve Holland et Duane Roland, il complétait ce fameux trio de « lead guitars » dont les interminables cavalcades (remember « Fall of the Peacemakers ») nous émerveillaient tant… Conjugués au style « heroïc fantasy » des pochettes (reprenant des œuvres de Frank Frazetta, puis d’Ezra Tucker et maintenant de Paul Raymond Gregory), les riffs et soli de Molly Hatchet en ont fait rêver plus d’un… A titre d’exemple, rien qu’aux Etats-Unis, « Flirtin’ With Disaster », leur second opus, s’est vendu à plus de trois millions d’exemplaires !
Souvent considéré comme le plus « hard » des groupes « sudistes », Molly Hatchet n’a jamais caché ses penchants pour le « rock dur ». Une attitude qui lui a parfois valut les foudres des puristes, mais n’a jamais affaibli le soutient du public. Contre vents et marées, malgré le temps qui passe, mené de main de maître, depuis 1989, par un infatigable Bobby Ingram (ex-China Sky), cette « Légende » poursuit donc sa route. Le double live « Locked and Loaded » et le Best Of (re-recorded) « 25th Anniversary », deux disques sortis en 2003, ont rappelé à notre bon souvenir l’extraordinaire richesse du répertoire de ces dignitaires du Rock US. Au chant, Phil McCormack continue de remplacer plus que dignement le regrété Danny Joe Brown, le frontman original, dont l’ombre n’a jamais vraiment cessé de planer sur l’histoire du combo.
N’oubliez pas : « The South Has Risen Again And Keep Southern Rockin’ !!! », comme Bobby et sa bande ne manquent jamais de nous le rappeler sur scène ou dans les livrets de leurs CD.

The Great Southern Brainfart has issued an interview with MOLLY HATCHET guitarist Bobby Ingram. The following is an excerpt:
Q: Molly Hatchet over the years has been embraced by the metal community. I can’t think of many southern rock bands that can cross over genres like you guys have. Why do you think that metal fans can connect with Molly Hatchet on that level?
A: "I think it’s because we’re the hardest of the southern rock bands. We’ve been lucky enough to be embraced by this metal/hard rock world. The Europeans in heavy metal and hard rock have totally embraced Molly Hatchet and we couldn’t be more honored because I love that kind of music. I love the style, the attitude, it just kicks fucking ass. Every time we go to Europe, I love sitting and listening to the opening acts because they’re fucking ass kickers. I’m not joking. We’re looking at these kids saying, 'Look at these kids kicking ass!', and they’re looking at us going, 'That motherfucker can barely walk, but he’s kicking everybody’s ass!' [laughs] It’s like hillbilly grandpa out there beating the tar out of somebody. We are embraced by this community that I really dig. There are no limits to southern rock because we can turn it up as loud as we want. We don’t have to be this limitation of having to be hee and haw or twang and twong. We can turn it up and get the fuck down with it. [laughs] You can still have a fucking attitude and rock your ass off."

Molly Hatchet - Regrinding The Axes
Le célèbre groupe sudiste a sorti un album de reprises avec une belle sélection :
Formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1975, MOLLY HATCHET took their name from a legendary prostitute who allegedly mutilated and decapitated her clients. Their self-titled debut album, recorded in 1978, quickly went platinum; the follow-up, Flirtin' With Disaster, was even a bigger success, ultimately selling well over two million copies.
Molly Hatchet has become one of the definitive southern rock band and on Regrinding The Axes, they revisit some of their favourite songs originally made famous by other legendary rock bands, covering well-known anthems from the repertoire of LYNYRD SKYNYRD, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, THE ROLLING STONES, ZZ TOP, GEORGE THOROGOOD, THIN LIZZY, MOUNTAIN.
The album also features three lengthy live tracks, recorded during one of their mind-blowing concerts.
