After releasing their first ever live album, Lucifer Over Athens, Greek melodic black metallers Rotting Christ have released a bit of information about their upcoming 2016 release. The album is to be titled Rituals and is due for a February 12th release. More information is expected soon according to the band's Facebook page. For now, the record is being described as their "darkest esoteric release ever."

The band's frontman, guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis says: "After more than a year and a half of deep soul searching, and 4 grueling months in the studio, I can proudly announce that we have finished recording the new Rotting Christ album. It's eleven new songs, with eleven different and unique stories influenced by rituals and myths from all around the globe. All of these new creations are mystical journeys into hidden knowledge under the name Rituals that will release on the 12th of February, 2016. Rituals is the darkest and most personal-sounding Rotting Christ album that we've ever made, and you'll be able to hear it very shortly. Stay tuned brothers & sisters!"

Excellent titre pour les Litanies de Satan, belle performance vocale de Vorph.
Pour le reste, c'est sympa, mais c'est beaucoup de la redite... pas de surprise...

ROTTING CHRIST has reached another peak in its long career that now spans over more than three decades. With a steady core lineup and a well-honed live delivery, ROTTING CHRIST is filling concert halls and reaping enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever it goes. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as "Aealo" (2010), "Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy" (2013) and "Rituals" (2016).

With more than 30 years, 12 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1,250 shows under their belt, it is about high time to take a retrospective look at this band's fascinating musical development by picking a select choice of key tracks covering the many facets of ROTTING CHRIST that have sparkled over the years. With such a massive catalogue such an undertaking will always lead to controversy about certain additions as well as omissions from the final list, but the involvement of frontman Sakis Tolis in this extremely difficult task ensures that the result is at least relevant.

ROTTING CHRIST was founded by Sakis Tolis and his brother Themis in the year 1987. Starting out on a basis of death and grind, the Greeks had already embarked on a darker musical journey by the time their debut full-length "Thy Mighty Contract" (1993) was revealed. On the following seven albums covering a ten-year period from "Non Serviam" (1994) to "Sanctus Diavolos" (2004), ROTTING CHRIST steadily defined its own distinct style by experimenting with elements from death, heavy, and gothic metal without betraying their black roots. At the same time, the band went from underground heroes to headliner status. With the highly acclaimed ninth album, "Theogonia" (2007), the Greek stalwarts added an unmistakable native element to their sound, which has remained with them as a signature trademark ever since. Exploring the mythical legacy of cultures around the globe let to ROTTING CHRIST's massively successful latest release, "Rituals". With "Their Greatest Spells", the Greek metal icons musically revisit their exciting legacy and even contribute a brand new track titled "I Will Not Serve" to connect their past with the present.

Commencing celebrations marking 30 years of Greece's premier black metal export Rotting Christ, the band presented on February 9th via Peaceville Records a brand new studio offering, titled The Call, on a special 7" vinyl release. The epic title track was recorded specially for this release and shows a band still operating at the peak of its creative powers. Watch the lyric video below.

The EP also contains a live rendition of early classic "The Sign Of Evil Existence" which features Behemoth's Nergal and Varathron's Necroabyssus on guest vocals.

Sakis Tolis comments: "Dear Listener, we decided to celebrate our 30 years of existence with some faithful to our underground roots releases and The Call is one of those releases. Hope you will enjoy our journey into the depths of the darkness and, until the next 30 years celebration release, keep the true Metal Spirit alive."

Marking 30 years of ROTTING CHRIST, "Under Our Black Cult" is a deluxe five-CD, 72-page book-set charting the early years of the Greek black metal legends. The set, which is due on July 6, also includes a limited hand-signed certificate from Sakis "Necromayhem" Tolis (while stocks last).

Written by "The Cult Never Dies" author Dayal Patterson, the book chronicles the early years of ROTTING CHRIST from its grindcore origins to the status as masters of occult Hellenic black metal. It features interviews with the band, plus luminaries from the black metal and underground scenes, and friends such as BEHEMOTH's Nergal, MOONSPELL's Fernando Ribeiro and more.

The five audio discs contain a comprehensive collection of early works, including demos, rarities, live material, the classic "Passage To Arcturo" MLP, and the "Thy Mighty Contract" and "Non Serviam" albums. All show why ROTTING CHRIST has sustained a three-decade legacy on the back of its inspirational beginnings.

The stunning cover art comes courtesy of Vjacheslav Smishko.

"The Heretics" track listing:

03. Heaven And Hell And Fire (04:52)
04. Hallowed Be Thy Name (05:06)

09. The New Messiah (03:07)
10. The Raven (05:23)

ROTTING CHRIST is currently touring Europe as the support act for WATAIN.

With "The Heretics", ROTTING CHRIST is opening a brand new chapter. Guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis, in collaboration with his brother Themis on drums, achieves a perfect balance of amalgamating the band's classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep its material exciting and fresh. The experience is enhanced by Jens Bogren's equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAR, MOONSPELL, DEVIN TOWNSEND).

With more than 30 years, 13 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1,250 shows under their belt, 2018 marked the year of ROTTING CHRIST's "Their Greatest Spells", where the band musically revisited its exciting legacy to connect its past with the present.

Asked in an interview with Pavillon 666 if he thought ROTTING CHRIST would last 30 years upon the band's 1988 formation, Sakis said: "It's a full life. No, of course [not]…you don't start the band to exist for 30 years or to be famous or rich or whatever the fuck. We just started the band because I wanted to sound like my idols back then. I wanted to play only one show and now I'm in a position where I've played 1,500 shows. And, no, I didn't expect something like this, but the spirit remains the same, even if I'm not that young. I still have the spirit and the hope that if we are in good health to keep playing with the band until our death. If health permits, of course. It's not up to me. If health does not permit, then I will not serve."

ROTTING CHRIST is:

Sakis Tolis: vocals, guitar, keys
Themis Tolis: drums
George Emmanouil: lead guitar
Van Ace: bass
