Le groupe de Death mélodique Finlandais se remet au travail pour leur 7ème album :

Nearly 16 years has passed from the early demos of Kalmah. Now alive and well the group of Swamp metallers are at the end of writing process for the 7th studio album. Album release is planned to Spring 2013. There is now 6 new Kalmah master pieces in rehearsal rotation and there is more to come. Band will enter studio in January 2013.

Cover and booklet artwork design has started. With the 7th album band decided to go back to the roots and step out of the digital image world. The artist and illustrator is Juha Vuorma.

At the end of September band shot a new music video from the title song of the new album. While waiting the video release watch the making of video on Youtube :

We have entered studio to record our seventh full length album. This time there will be no studio diary in particular. Instead we are going to keep you updated via our website and Kalmah Facebook page. So follow it!

Finnish metallers KALMAH will release their new studio album, "Seventh Swamphony", on June 17 via Spinefarm Records. The follow-up to 2010's "12 Gauge" was recorded at Tico-Tico Studios in Kemi, Finland, and was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SOILWORK, PARADISE LOST). The new CD will feature cover artwork by Juha Vuorma, who worked on the first three KALMAH albums as well as releases from USURPER, METUJA, DEATHMARCHED and ALTARS OF DESTRUCTION. The CD's first single, "Seventh Swamphony", is scheduled for digital release on May 6.

After 15 years together, with six full-length albums under their collective belt, 2013 sees the Finnish musicians delivering album No. 7 — an eight-track release showcasing this Oulu outfit's trademark frantic, yet melodic death metal style, tempered here by a newfound "epic mournfulness."

Commented KALMAH lead guitarist Antti Kokko: "This album marks a milestone in our careers. We have a new keyboard player, which has given a fresh edge to the music, and we are, of course, very satisfied with the new material. That is why we wanted to give the songs the best possible chance without compromise; we feel very lucky and privileged to have worked with Jens Bogren."

Keyboardist Marco Sneck left KALMAH in 2011 after seven years and three albums with the band.

KALMAH's sixth album, "12 Gauge", entered the official chart in the Finland at position No. 15.

Comme je t'en avais parlé dans je ne sais plus quel sujet, si tu apprécies le style, jette-toi à corps perdu sur la triplette gagnante "Swamplord" ('01) / "They Will Return" ('02) et "Swampsong" ('03), qui marque la période la plus mélodieuse du groupe, qui s'est souvent réclamé de l'influence de MEGADETH période "Countdown", même si on nage bien dans les sombres marécages Finlandais mélancoliques d'un Death mélodique tirant en fait plus sur le Heavy qu'autre chose une fois abstraction faite du chant guttural propre à la scène Suédoise et des claviers étincelants.

"The Black Waltz" ('06) et "for the revolution" ('08) ne sont pas moins réussis à mon goût, mais ont amorcé une direction plus agressive, et un brin plus incisive, teintée à l'occasion des accents du Blackened Death.

En revanche leur dernier, "12 Gauge" ('10) entamait un discret retour vers ce son caractéristique de "Swampsong" par exemple.

Autant je suis loin de raffoler de cette scène en général, autant je trouve que des petits groupes comme eux, ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW, INSOMNIUM ou WINTERSUN (pour le premier album du moins) manient bien ce mélange de riffs acérés et de phrasés mélodiques appuyés par des synthés qui instaurent plus un climat général que des leitmotivs démonstratifs.

J'appuie, excellent groupe méconnu. Découvert il y a quelques années en uploadant une sonnerie pour mon téléphone.

Pour moi, c'est carrément l'inverse!

Quand on écoute les deux premiers albums du groupe, la voix tire clairement sur le black metal. Quand on prend les premiers Children Of Bodom, la voix alterne pas mal entre black et death. Ben c'est comme si Kalmah était influencé par le côté le plus black de la voix de COB.
Quand tu prends The Black Waltz, la voix est uniquement death, c'est du growl guttural à foison. Sur Swamplord, t'as surtout du grunt.
