KADAVAR signe chez Nuclear Blast.

Nuclear Blast Records are more than happy to announce the signing of Germany’s most authentic and passionate psychedelic hard rock combo of today – KADAVAR! It was already with 2012’s eponymous debut album “Kadavar” that the three-piece from Berlin casted a spell on all fans of solid riff-driven yet doom-like 70’s hard rock à la BLACK SABBATH or PENTAGRAM. Marrying this with the spacy psychedelic approach of early HAWKWIND and mixing in a distinct own touch while preserving their icon’s warm vintage charm can doubtlessly be considered the trio’s key to success – astoundingly high vinyl sales and support shows for bands such as SLEEP, SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM and ELECTRIC WIZARD as well as stunning festival gigs at “Stoned From The Underground”, “Yellowstock” and “Fusion Festival”, among others, underline KADAVAR’s status as one of the scene’s most exciting acts to watch in 2013!

Nuclear Blast’s Head of A&R Andy Siry comments on the signing: “We’re delighted to bid KADAVAR welcome to the Nuclear Blast family! It was with great interest that we’ve watched their first steps from the founding of the band to the release of their debut record. Eventually, the last-mentioned tipped the balance and led us to offering them a record deal, as we truly believe that these three gentlemen are masters of their craft and can righteously be considered the leaders of the German occult rock movement. We’re looking forward a lot to seeing what the future will bring for KADAVAR!”

Regarding the signing with the Swabian label, drummer Tiger states with a wink: “Even though the relationship between people from Berlin and Swabians is usually considered rather… uneasy, we’re taking the first step to reconciliation: We’re very happy that our second studio album will be released via Nuclear Blast, who can look back on an impressive history. After an eventful year, we’ve locked ourselves up in the studio for the past two months in order to work on said record. The result elates us – we can’t wait ‘til the release date has finally come!”

KADAVAR’s upcoming new album was recorded in Tiger’s studio, where he also took care of the production, mixing and mastering. It’s set for a release on April 5, 2013 and will be entitled “Abra Kadavar”. As far as the album recordings are concerned, the multi-talent explains:
“After last year’s final show had been played in mid-December, we started writing new songs. We’ve already had a couple of finished tracks in May 2012, but those were eventually released on a split-LP with AQUA NEBULA OSCILLATOR in November 2012, which is why we started at square one again. As we knew that there was no procrastination and no going back for us, we sat down for two weeks straight to finish composing with total commitment. We’re perfectly happy with the outcome – I’d even say that “Abra Kadavar” comprises the best compositions we’ve created to date. The songs are more diversified, the ideas feel more spontaneous. Moreover, we’ve tried to capture much more of our live energy, which is why we’ve recorded almost everything all together in one room, with the amps turned up to the max – solely the vocals and a handful of guitar solos were added afterwards.”

Leur premier album attitré paru l'an dernier est donc édité en vinyle noir et blanc chez le label allemand :

Bah quand un groupe a un look actuel tu les traites hipsters, quand ils ont un look retro, ça va pas non plus... Alors qu'est-ce qu'il te faut ? Des toges et des peaux de bêtes ?

C'est sans doute pas la rubrique adéquate pour en parler, mais perso je prends cette imagerie comme formant un tout avec un style donné.

Là où les cartouchières, crinières, godasses blanches à scratches et vestes à patches identifient Heavy et Thrash, où les permanentes, futals troués, santiags et bandanas font le bonheur du Glam et les teesh et chemises cintrées, lunettes et coupes à la brosse cadrent avec Post et Shoegaze, pourquoi pas un penchant nostalgique pour les dégaines typées Isle Of Wight ou Hyde Park période Flower Power après tout ?

Que ça ne plaise pas du tout je comprends tout à fait, mais pour ma part je lui trouve du charme, et ça contraste avec ces autres attirails typés bien trempés tout en collant bien à l'esprit Acid / Space qui enveloppe cette frange psychédélique du Stoner / Doom.

Je le vois comme une part de mise en scène, au même titre que les accoutrements mystiques de GHOST, étant donné que le groupe a pas mal de succès en ces pages dernièrement.

on peut avoir des cheveux long sans se déguiser (c'est le mot) en hippie fantoche ou en panoplie de mode devred à l'extrême inverse.

ok, Lax, là ou je suis d'accord concernant les tribus qui ont toujours existé depuis leur création, je le suis pas du tout d'accord pour mettre ce délire stoner/psyché en suite logique et ininterrompu de hippies flowerpower et autres beatlecerie. c'est vraiment forcé.
musicalement ils n'ont que peu à voir au final et il n'y a aucune continuité dans l'existence de cette tribu (et dans la manière de vivre de ces loulous). elle a disparu et tout d'un coup on la fait réapparaître, c'est un peu de la récup'...

tiens un exemple; même dans le heavy, des éléments sont restés mais d'autres ont disparus parce qu’ils se rapportaient trop à l'époque:

tu en connais beaucoup des jeunes groupes de heavy qui viennent avec ces fringues sur scène? même dans le glam (qui est d'ailleurs une autre tribu) le code vestimentaire est autrement typé et ne renvoi pas à ça.

Hmm oui effectivement je veux bien croire que ça puisse être une décision plus ou moins forcée dans certains cas pour capitaliser sur l'attrait potentiel de la chose notamment.

Après je suis bien d'accord avec toi sur le fait qu'entre le courant authentique des '60s-'70s et cette remise au goût du jour récente, il y a tout un fossé d'inspiration véritable et d'opportunisme mêlés que je ne me risquerai pas à franchir, quand bien même on peut retenir un bon nombre de groupes talentueux dans le domaine.

Je pense que leur démarche est honnête dans le sens où ils cherchent bien à revendiquer leurs influences de cette époque, mais il est clairement pas question d'en parler comme d'une continuité directe, je te rejoins là-dessus.

Comme dans toute vague de revival en fait, récup' et plagiat sont fréquents -même si très bien exécutés et plaisants à entendre et voir-, mais il s'en dégage toujours de bons reflux.

putain je suis bien d accord avec toi !! On dirait qu'ils sortent d'Emmaus...le look retro ok, mais la c'est carrement une faute de goût ! Et putain le doom ca veut pas non plus dire être un gros looser habillé avec les vetements de mariage '70 des parents !!! Je prefere le look de The Gates of slumber, au moins ils sont metal...La on dirait des fans des "The Doors" melangé a Gilbert Montagné !!!

“On `Come Back Life´ we’ve tried to write similar melody lines for the vocals and guitar. After the song was done, I got the impression that someone had twiddled with out time machine and had sent us back to 1969!” (Tiger)

“This song is about a friend of ours who’s been living in a small cave in the middle of Paris without water supply for about 10 years now. The cave is solely lighted by candles and filled with taxidermied animals and voodoo puppets – one for each of his ex-girlfriends. Try to recall a dark acid trip and multiply it by 10 – that’ll give you a rough idea...” (Lindemann)

“I came up with the idea for this song while strolling through Berlin, when I suddenly looked into the hollow eyes of a man who was loitering at a supermarket near our studio. He’s hanging around there with his friends every day, drowning his sorrow in alcohol. At this sight I was wondering what he was waiting for and if there were any prospects left for him – or if he just wanted to return to the dust he’d once emerged from...” (Lupus Lindemann)

06. - Fire
“Our first true love song. When the riff struck my mind, I first imagined the song to sound like an early STOOGES tune. However, once the track was finished, there was not much left of this.” (Tiger)

07. - Liquid Dream
“This song’s about the trips we experienced during the past year. It’s hard to find the right people for it, but once you’ve found them, one can leave this world and dive into more exciting and colorful spheres together – far away from the grey city.” (Lupus Lindemann)

08. - Rhythm For Endless Minds
“Krautrock is still a major influence for us. This track sounds different than a typical song of AMON DÜÜL or CAN, but then again, what’s typical Krautrock anyway?” (Tiger)

09. - Abra Kadabra
“That’s what it sounds like when we don’t plan in advance what to record. First the rhythms for bass and guitar emerged. Afterwards we set up guitars, percussion, synthesizers etc. and just got started!” (Tiger)
