Season of Mist is proud to announce a new deluxe CD + DVD reissue of Atheist's debut album, "Piece of Time," on August 5th. The label comments:

"Atheist was one of the first truly adventurous bands to break out of the late 80's death metal underground. In addition to their three early albums ('Piece of Time', 'Unquestionable Presence', and 'Elements') being benchmarks of quality and progression, the band's musical vision directly influenced many noteworthy artists both past (Cynic, later-era Death, Pestilence) and present (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Necrophagist, Spiral Architect)."

The CD release includes nine bonus tracks of rare early recordings and demos, and th e reissue also features a DVD companion with rare and never-before-scene material.

Death SS rééditent 3 albums :
Shadow Kingdom Records just announced the signing of Italian group Death SS for the reissue of the band's first three albums: 1988's "...in Death of Steve Sylvester," 1989's "Black Mass," and 1991's "Heavy Demons."

Each album will be released on CD, vinyl, and cassette formats, (as well as digital) with a T-shirt design produced for each album cover. Shadow Kingdom comments:

"Long a cult name in the international heavy metal scene, Death SS have influenced thousands over the past three decades in their long, twisted history, equally influencing the nascent speed metal and black metal scenes with their trademark ghoulish and theatrical presentation. Shadow Kingdom couldn't be prouder and more honored to have Death SS amongst its roster, most of which have been shaped by the band in one way or another."

Image

"Rhino are to issue a four-disc super deluxe edition of Black Sabbath‘s second studio album Paranoid.

This new edition uses the 2012 remaster of the 1970 album and includes the 1974 quad mix of Paranoid. Bizarrely, the quad mix isn’t on a DVD (or blu-ray) but on CD. Since CDs cannot deliver audio in a surround sound format, this rare quad mix is ‘folded down’ to stereo. It will still sound different to the master version, but the whole point of quad mixes was to deliver a surround sound experience via four channels – something this CD won’t do. Truly perverse.

The other two CDs contain two concerts from 1970, from Montreux (recorded shortly before the album was issued) and Brussels (recorded during the band’s television performance for public broadcaster RTBF). The latter has been widely bootlegged, but for this set, the entire show has been sourced directly from the RTBF master tapes for optimum quality.

The four-disc set comes with a hardbound book with extensive liner notes featuring new interviews with all four band members, rare photos, and memorabilia, a poster, as well as a replica of the tour book sold during the Paranoid tour.

This Paranoid super deluxe edition will be issued on 11 November 2016."

Ca m'intéresse bien, surtout pour les 2 concerts. Je n'ai que l'édition 1 cd. Je note que le concert de 1970 est à l'olympia à Paris et il est diffusé sur la chaine TV belge, je pense que c'est de celui là que tu voulais dire, comme celui du coffret en audio qui précise Bruxelles;

Venice crossover band Excel have revealed some details on the recently-announced reissue of their classic second album, The Joke's On You. It will be released on CD and vinyl this November 18th through Southern Lord Records (both formats will include the bonus track "Blaze Some Hate"), and pre-orders are available here.

The Joke's On You was originally released in 1989 on Caroline Records, and was produced by Randy Burns (known for producing or engineering classic albums by bands such as Death, Possessed, Kreator, Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, Dark Angel and Nuclear Assault). It was also the last Excel album recorded with the "classic" line-up of Dan Clements (vocals), Shaun Ross (bass), Adam Siegel (guitar) and Greg Saenz (drums), before the latter of the two departed from the band in 1992.

http://www.rush.com/2112-40th/
After celebrating over 40 years together with the same trio line-up, UMe continues the celebration of the RUSH catalog with the release of three 40th-anniversary expanded editions of the band's classic 1976 album "2112".

On December 16, 2016, "2112 - 40th" will be released in three distinct variations. The 2CD/DVD edition will include a newly remastered CD of the original "2112" album by Abbey Road Studios, and an additional CD of rare, live and previously unreleased material, including newly recorded tracks from "2112" featuring Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of FOO FIGHTERS along with Nick Raskulinecz, BILLY TALENT, Steven Wilson from PORCUPINE TREE, Jacob Moon and ALICE IN CHAINS. The set's third disc is a DVD featuring a newly restored vintage 1976 RUSH concert recorded at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, plus bonus videos of the Grohl/Hawkins/Raskulinecz track and BILLY TALENT track, and a new 25-plus-minute interview featuring RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson and longtime producer and engineer Terry Brown. The new "2112" remaster originally appeared on the much-acclaimed 2015 hologram vinyl edition of the album; this marks the Abbey Road Studios master first time on CD.

Canadian progressive thrash legends VOIVOD will reissue their three classic albums from the Noise Records years through BMG on April 28. 1986's "Rrrroooaaarrr", 1987's "Killing Technology" and 1988's "Dimension Hatross" have all been remastered, with the CD versions containing a whole host of addition extras including a double CD of the album, a live set and an additional DVD of live performances, rehearsals and photos all compiled from the bands own personal archives. The 2CD/DVD Set vividly captures the period surrounding the albums, where the band's sound and concept come together in perfect union, and where the transition from thrash metal into something altogether more unique, was finally made. All three albums have been re-mastered from the original tapes, pressed on high quality heavy-weight vinyl and the artwork has replicated from the original release. Available on vinyl again for the first time in 30 years!

A video clip of VOIVOD performing the song "Tribal Convictions" live at Anthrax in Norwalk, Connecticut on November 9, 1988 from the forthcoming deluxe 2CD/DVD reissue of "Dimension Hatross" can be seen below.

VOIVOD is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Québec. Their musical style has changed several times since the band's origin in the early 1980s. Starting out as a speed metal band, VOIVOD have added a mix of progressive metal and thrash metal to create their own unique metal style, and are credited as one of the "big four" Canadian thrash metal bands, along with SACRIFICE, RAZOR and ANNIHILATOR.

They are considered by many as one of the most influential metal bands from the '80s, influencing and gaining praise from multiple bands and across numerous genres.

Since its inception in 1982, VOIVOD have released thirteen studio albums, as well as one EP, one live album, two compilations, seven demos and one DVD featuring a live concert. The band found mainstream success in the late 1980s with their fifth studio album, "Nothingface" (1989), which is VOIVOD's only album to enter The Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number 114.

:bang:

Heroes of the extreme metal scene, there has always been so much more to Celtic Frost’s music. From ‘Morbid Tales’, through ‘To Mega Therion’, onwards to ‘Into The Pandemonium’ and finally ‘Vanity/Nemesis’, this is a band who refused to conform or follow any specific musical direction. They experimented, took risks and in the process have left behind a remarkable catalogue which is timeless and extraordinary. When you hear these albums, you’ll appreciate why succeeding generations of diehard fans and cutting edge bands are so heavily inspired and influenced by Celtic Frost.

It almost seems churlish to regard Celtic Frost as one of the great extreme metal bands, because they were so much more than that. It’s better to hail them as among the finest extreme and experimental bands of the 1980s. Refusing ever to do what was expected or demanded, the band constantly changed musical direction, always brought in surprising influences, and kept people guessing as to where they might venture next. Their catalogue of albums is formidable and unmatched. Each is not only unique, but part of an entire tapestry that only now can be appreciated for being a remarkable part of music history. Despite, or maybe because of, constant turmoil on so many fronts, Celtic Frost achieved an artistic level few others would even have dared to dream of aspiring towards. They climbed high because they were never afraid to fall. Which is why the band are now rightly regarded as icons, and iconoclasts.

Xavier Russell – 2016

PRODUCT INFO –

Debut album “Morbid Tales” was originally released in 1984, and quickly became known as the work of agitated and agitating talents. This record was a huge influence on the burgeoning death and thrash scenes at the time: a master-class of riff tirades and unholy sentiments. This reissue includes previously unheard and restored rehearsals from 1984. Both the 180g 2LP and CD versions include extensive booklets plus a poster.

Celtic Frost’s second album “To Mega Therion” was released in 1985 and showcased an ominous pall of doom and gloom, enmeshed in a sound both primitive yet also Wagnerian in its vast scope. This reissue includes the “Emperor’s Return” EP as well as a remix of “Visual Aggression”. Both the 180g LP and CD versions include extensive booklets.

The band’s third album “Into Pandemonium” was originally released in 1987. The record represented a turning point for a whole genre, being extremely ahead of its time. Not only did it have maniacal rhythms, but introduced electronica into extreme metal. On every level, it was a remarkable record, full of visionary ideas and ideals. This reissue includes alternate versions of tracks from the album and a cover of a Dean Martin song. Both the 180g LP and CD versions include extensive booklets.

Celtic Frost’s fifth studio album “Vanity + Nemesis” was released in 1990. It featured a twisted cover of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ and it saw the band going in a much more thrash oriented direction. The restless energy percolates throughout, as Celtic Frost continued to leave fans aghast at their soundscapes and adventurous perceptions. The reissue includes tracks from the ‘Wine In My Hand 12” EP’, and Both the 180g LP and CD versions include extensive booklets.

The brand new ‘best of’ release, “Innocence And Wrath” is a collection of Celtic Frost’s finest material, some of it rare and obscure. This 2CD includes new sleevenotes and an extensive booklet.

All the songs on each album have been fully remastered, supervised by the band.

Track listings were compiled by the band to run in the order they originally wanted them.

"Next to remastering, design, archive materials, and art direction, my contributions also included a number of detailed personal texts specially drafted for this new 2017 edition of the booklets of the individual albums. And this is where the past is once again catching up with CELTIC FROST. It was particularly the album 'Into The Pandemonium' which, in 1987, was created under dramatically detrimental conditions due to the increasingly pronounced disagreements between group and label. But our other albums with Noise Records were affected to some degree as well.

"It is obvious that such decisive occurrences would be part of the narrative of my liner notes, and it is equally obvious that such liner notes would inevitably reflect my very personal view as somebody who was, at the time, a member of the band, wrote the songs, co-designed the visual aspects of each album, and performed and produced in the studio. And it is exactly because of these facts that the powers that be at BMG Rights management objected.

"As part of what was, at all times, an exceptionally friendly and professional correspondence with the legal counsel BMG assigned to assess any potential legal problems, I received from London shortened versions of my liner notes, for review and approval. These were adoringly called 'redlined versions.' In this particular case, however, 'shortened' really amounts to 'grossly censored.' To name but one example, driven by a persistently obvious concern with regard to a potential lawsuit by one of the parties involved in the original 1980s releases, BMG censored and thus slashed my 'Into The Pandemonium' liner notes to approximately a third of their original volume. What remains of my texts is utterly mutilated and thus no longer amounts to a coherent narrative that makes any sense. These pathetic text fragments now fail to convey the full history of the individual albums.

"It is exactly because of the events CELTIC FROST endured during the 1980s that I am a radical opponent of any meddling or censorship by a record company, and that my present-day career is one hundred percent self-determined. Regardless of where one stood on the issue, the conflicts with Noise Records affected most of CELTIC FROST's activities significantly.

"One could be excused for being prompted to ponder that by executing such 'redlined' intrusions, BMG are, to a certain extent, seamlessly reenacting the modus operandi of the label they purchased, Noise Records. As for me, I am of course not inclined whatsoever to agree to have my texts censored. I thus informed BMG that I would rather withdraw my liner notes than to see them published in disfigured guise (a variety of censored drafts had been proposed to me), particularly since the events described therein have been public knowledge for many years and have also been experienced and corroborated by other Noise Records groups.

"And that's exactly what has taken place in the meantime; in early February of 2017, I withdrew all of my dedicated liner notes for the four albums reissued by BMG: 'Morbid Tales', 'To Mega Therion', 'Into The Pandemonium' and 'Vanity/Nemesis', and concluded my cooperation with BMG Rights. I was thus no longer involved when the reissue project arrived at the final review and approval stage.

"Throughout all of these developments regarding the reissues, the co-founder and former bassist of CELTIC FROST, Martin Eric Ain, was constantly kept in the loop with regard to all of these developments.

"Given this state of affairs, I no longer feel that I can endorse and support these reissues, as they no longer reflect the wishes, intentions, and identity of the band.

"It had been our intention for many, many years to finally see these albums reissued in fully complete — and thus ultimate — editions. There had even been (unsuccessful) efforts during the past decade to initiate a collaboration to that effect between our own label, Prowling Death Records, and the current holders of the rights. Unfortunately, due to the failure of this reissue project, it now seems exceedingly unlikely that such ultimate and fully band-endorsed reissues will see the light of the day during my lifetime."

No Remorse Records has announced the upcoming reissues of three albums which feature former MEGADETH and CACOPHONY guitarist Marty Friedman: the VIXEN "Made In Hawaii" EP (originally released in 1983), HAWAII's legendary "Loud, Wild And Heavy" EP (from 1984), and a collection of recordings from his late 1970s band DEUCE (later known as TENSION). All three titles were recently remastered and partially restored by Bart Gabriel (CIRITH UNGOL, SORTILÈGE, CRYSTAL VIPER). The VIXEN and HAWAII releases are both packed with bonus tracks and extended to the size of full-length albums. Each of the releases will be available as a limited-edition CD, and VIXEN's "Made In Hawaii" will be available as a CD, vinyl LP and ultra-limited box set. Exact release dates for all three albums will be announced shortly.
