OVERVIEW:

New Jersey native Dave Wyndorf was already a rock & roll veteran by the time he formed Monster Magnet in 1989, having cut his teeth with little-known punk band Shrapnel (also featuring future punk producer Daniel Rey on guitars) in the late '70s before retiring from music altogether. But, after teaching himself guitar, Wyndorf began assembling Monster Magnet with a handful of fellow New Jersey natives, vocalist Tim Cronin, guitarist John McBain, bassist Joe Callandra, and drummer Jon Kleiman. Fusing their metal, punk, space rock, and psychedelic influences, the band developed a sludgy, feedback-heavy hard rock sound that helped them stand out from the era's burgeoning retro-rock movement — also counting the Black Crowes, White Zombie, and many others. After releasing a self-titled six-song EP through Germany's Glitterhouse Records, Wyndorf assumed all vocal responsibilities, while Cronin retreated to a behind the scenes "conceptual consultant" position — much like that of John Sinclair for the MC5. In the meantime, Monster Magnet had signed with independent label Caroline Records in 1992, and recorded their first full-length album: the very impressive, uniquely dark psychedelic masterpiece Spine of God. The productive sessions also yielded a number of extensive space rock jams that would later be issued as the Tab album in 1993. A video for first single "Medicine" and a support tour with the fast-rising Soundgarden also helped attract powerhouse A&M Records, but even as they prepared to sign with the label, Wyndorf had a serious falling-out with guitarist McBain, who was soon replaced by Ed Mundell.

Quel succès que ce topic et ce combo !
Donc pour les fans cachés s'il y en a:

MONSTER MAGNET's new album, "4 Way Diablo", is available for streaming in its entirety on the band's MySpace page. Due on November 2 via SPV Records, the CD was produced by Matt Hyde and features a cover version of THE ROLLING STONES' "2,000 Light Years from Home".

"4 Way Diablo" track listing:

01. 4 Way Diablo
02. Wall of Fire
03. You're Alive
04. Blow Your Mind
05. Cyclone
06. 2000 Light Years from Home (THE ROLLNG STONES cover)
07. No Vacation
08. I'm Calling You
09. Solid Gold
10. Freeze and Pixillate
11. A Thousand Stars
12. Slap in the Face
13. Little Bag of Gloom

MONSTER MAGNET's last studio album, "Monolithic Baby", was released in 2004 via SPV.

Dave Wyndorf recently spoke to U.K.-based music journalist Dave Ling about the occasion on which an overdose on prescription drugs almost killed him on February 27, 2006.

"It had been a long time coming," recounted Wyndorf. "Eveything began when I couldn't sleep on tour, so the doctors gave me something that would put down a wild animal. This was an anti-anxiety drug; the stuff that airline pilots and astronauts use. I was doing a lot of transatlantic flying, and on a plane one day I just started gobbling them down. All of my paranoias came at me like a giant, three-headed beast. My biggest mistake was not asking for help. The things are supposed to clear you mind before you go to sleep. They wipe out all the worries and concerns you might have, but what I didn't understand is that it's like a computer..."

Everything just re-boots when you switch on again? "Exactly," he replied. "The problems are not deleted, in fact they get magnified by ten. It was fucking horrible. I was utterly powerless, on a slipperly slope. I don't recall doing it but on the day concerned I took the whole Goddamn bottle — a hundred pills, man, just like they were a shot glass — and the next thing I knew, I woke up in a fucking loony bin."

Having sampled their upside and downside, even forged a career spent singing about them, Wyndorf is in a pretty unique position to talk about drugs. "They're supposedly a gateway into creativity," he mused. "And you know what? It's all a myth. They suck, and they'll get you in the end. They certainly got me."

"Mastermind", the long-awaited new album from MONSTER MAGNET, is available for streaming in its entirety at AOL Music. Due on October 29 via Austria's Napalm Records, the effort will be released as a regular CD with poster, limited digibook with two bonus tracks with poster and limited-edition box containing the digibook CD, USB stick with MONSTER MAGNET logo and exclusive video material (including a Dave Wyndorf interview from August 2010), wallpapers, ringtones, 17-track Napalm sampler and much more.

Commented MONSTER MAGNET frontman Dave Wyndorf: "['Mastermind' is] a big, beefy ball of demented anthems and power rock. The music itself is exaggerated and muscular. Like classic rock gone insane! Giant hooks, giant sounds. The rockers are direct and intense. The ballads trippy and strange. It's guitar heaven."

And the lyrics? Wyndorf laughed. "Well, the lyrics read like a fever-dream of life in the 21st century. Cynicism, optimism, satire, sex, deluded fantasies and dead-on reality. They're all here — sometimes even in the same song!

"In my world, images, information and emotions tend to intertwine. I'll describe the smallest details of my personal life in crazy, cinematic terms.

"When I write, the words play out in my mind like scenes from a movie and that's the vibe I tried to capture on 'Mastermind' — rapid-fire emotion.

"What can I say? I'm having a weird life and I have to write it down that way.

"In the end, though, 'Mastermind' ROCKS, and that's what's most important."

Le guitariste quitte le groupe, présent depuis 18 ans :
After 18 years, guitarist Ed Mundell has left MONSTER MAGNET for "personal reasons." The band's mainman, Dave Wyndorf, states, "What can I say? [Ed] told me this two months ago and I gave him some time for him to perhaps reconsider but no go. It's a bummer, yeah but we've been through this kind of thing before. Make no mistake, MAGNET goes on. We start the 'Mastermind' tour tonight [Wednesday, November 3] in Cologne, Germany with Phil Caivano and Garrett Sweeny handling dual guitar chores." He adds, "I'd like to thank Ed for the immense talent he's brought to the band over the years and wish him good luck in whatever he decides to do next. Good luck, Ed, we'll miss you!"

Nouvel album en octobre :
MONSTER MAGNET will release its new album, "Last Patrol", in North America on October 15 via Napalm Records. The CD was produced by Dave Wyndorf and Phil Caivano, while "Evil" Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, BAD RELIGION) mixed the album, with additional production duties handled by Matt Hyde. The artwork was created by Johun Sumrow with consultation coming from Chris Ryall and designs by Ryan Clark for Invisible Creatures Inc. The album will be available as a limited edition CD, standard CD, 2LP and digital format.

In support of "Last Patrol", MONSTER MAGNET will embark on a full-blown North American tour. Although the band has toured Europe relentlessly over the past decade, this is MONSTER MAGNET's first full North American tour in over 10 years. Support will come from Prosthetic artist ZODIAC. The tour is scheduled to kick off November 14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and will run through December 14 in New York City.

Frontman and MONSTER MAGNET mastermind Dave Wyndorf checked in with his thoughts about "Last Patrol": "'Last Patrol' is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style. It's full-on psychedelic space-rock with a '60s garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, New Jersey. The songs are a kind of space-noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It's a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. [laughs] The lyrics aren't fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that's where these lyrics get trippy. There's also our cover version of DONOVAN's 'Three Kingfishers', which I thought fit the mood of the album."

He continued: "'Last Patrol' was produced by Phil Caivano and myself with an effort to bring a homegrown feel to the whole affair. We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil's Studio 13 recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale MONSTER MAGNET album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one."

"Last Patrol" track listing:

01. I Live Behind The Clouds
02. Last Patrol
03. Three King Fishers
04. Paradise
05. Hallelujah
06. Mindless Ones
07. The Duke
08. End Of Time
09. Stay Tuned

https://soundcloud.com/napalmrecords/mo ... ise-for-me
2013 saw the release of MONSTER MAGNET's latest album, "Last Patrol". Now comes "Milking The Stars: A Reimagining Of Last Patrol", due on November 18 via Napalm Records.

Met with critical acclaim and supported by a world tour, "Last Patrol" has become a staple in the MONSTER MAGNET discography.

Today the artwork, track listing and first song from "Milking The Stars" have been released. MONSTER MAGNET mainman Dave Wyndorf's pick for the first track he wanted fans to be exposed to is "No Paradise For Me". The song, according to Wyndorf, is "interesting, fucked up and old-school sounding." Check it out below.

Says Wyndorf about "Milking The Stars": "'Milking The Stars' is a 'reimagined' version of 'Last Patrol' featuring four new songs and live tracks.

"This was a happy experiment for me. It's not a remix record by the current definition. It's more like 'Last Patrol' in a 'what-if?'-style alternate reality.

"'What if these songs were recorded in 1968?' 'What would happen if I turned a pretty song into an angry one?' 'How would adding creepy organs and Mellotrons affect the emotional vibe of a song?' These are just a few of the questions that roll around in my head when I write and record any album but this time I decided to actually answer them with fully fleshed out, recorded and mixed examples.

"The process actually created new songs. That's the icing on the cake for me. New sounds, new vocals, different instruments and arrangements make for a weird 1960's vibe totally apart from 'Last Patrol' which was fun for Phil, Bob, Garrett, mixer Joe Barresi and myself to explore.

"Finally there's expanded versions of the songs 'Last Patrol' and 'Three Kingfishers' as recorded live at the AB club in Belgium, 2014. Both those songs were re-arranged for 'maximum rock and psych' before we hit the road last year and feature the debut performance of new MAGNET bassist, Chris Kosnik. Personally, I think they beat the original versions."

"Milking The Stars: A Reimagining Of Last Patrol" track listing:

01. Let the Circus Burn
02. Mindless Ones '68
03. No Paradise For Me
04. End Of Time (B-3)
05. Milking The Stars
06. Hellelujah (Fuzz And Swamp)
07. I Live Behind The Clouds (Roughed Up And Slightly Spaced)
08. Goliath Returns
09. Stay Tuned (Even Sadder)
10. The Duke (Full On Drums 'N Wah)
11. Last Patrol (live)
12. Three Kingfishers (live)
