"THOR is still an immensely powerful man in incredible shape and a dedicated performer. Blowing up hot water bottles, bending steel, and having cinder blocks broken over his chest are all in a night's work."

C'est donc bien lui

THOR To Tour In Support Of New Album, DVD - June 28, 2005

Smog Veil Records has announced U.S. and Canadian tour dates for THOR. The band will tour in support of the new album, entitled "Thor against the World", and retrospective DVD, entitled "An-THOR-logy", both set for release on July 12, 2005.

Jon Mikl Thor — a rock music, film and bodybuilding legend (Mr. America and Mr. Canada titles) — has worked to make each stop on the tour a crowd-pleasing event featuring theatrics, all new costumes and specially designed props. Each night the show will be tailored to the specific parameters of the venues the tour is hitting. There will be feats of strength including bending steel bars with his teeth, crushing stacks of bricks on his chest and so forth. In Thor's own words, "I will give them a show they will never forget! I will give them rock 'n' roll and a whole lot more!"

The drama on stage is connected directly to the content of the songs and the set lists will span several albums. "It is a concept," Thor explains. "We're taking the songs fans know and love the most and playing them, but also acting them out." The recurring themes include the warrior or dark avenger character who tells the tales of battles with ogres, monsters, snakes, wizards, demons and aliens. He is on a quest to find the magic lantern.

The tales are loosely based on Norse mythology. "Really the stories convey the message that if you believe in yourself you can find the strength and the perseverance to overcome any obstacle," Thor confirms.

In many of the tour markets the rock show will either be preceded by or followed by a showing of the new film, "Intercessor: Another Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare". The film is being released to DVD (SRS Cinema) and Smog Veil will release the soundtrack on Apple iTunes, which features Thor with special guests like the STREET WALKIN' CHEETAHS, SWEET JUSTICE, DOA, Joe Preston (MELVINS) plus three bonus tracks from original film "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare".

The Boston show at the Coolidge Theater on August 3 will be the premiere for
"Intercessor: Another Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare" and the Rainbow Theater in London, Ontario is planning an event surrounding the concert and the film for Monday, August 8. The stop in Chicago on August 10 will be part of a Thor Film Festival featuring the live rock show as well as screenings of "Zombie Nightmare" (also starring Adam West and Tia Carerra); "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare" (soon to be released to DVD by Synapse Films) and "Intercessor: Another Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare". In related Thor film news, two tracks from the album ("Creature Feature" and "Easy Woman") will appear in the movie "Creepies II", now in production.

Jon Mikl Thor hand-picked top musicians to hit the road with him to promote "Thor against the World". The band will include Steve Stack (best known for playing the tracks "Invader" and "Strange Lantern" on the album "Thunderstruck: Tales from the Equinox") on guitar. Mike Favata who hails from the band's peak period and is featured on releases such as "Unchained", "Only The Strong", "Recruits Wild in the Streets" will grace the drum kit again for this extended tour and John Ramirez (THE PROBE, STREET WALKIN CHEETAHS, NUDIST PRIEST) has been recruited to handle bass duties.

The tour will also feature guest artists in selected markets, including Damien Storm and Steve Price. Storm will perform his composition "Zekey Zombie" from the horror film "Intercessor", which Thor stars in. And Price who was Thor's guitar player through the 1980s will come onboard for selected East Coast dates. Production team the Messiaz, a.k.a. Bruce Duff, on keyboards and Frank Meyer (who also co-wrote much of the album) on guitar, will join the band for the West Coast dates.

Many of the shows have sponsors like Sam Ash for Orlando, FL on July 23 and Pump Restaurant in New York City for the show at the Continental in New York City on August 5. Additional events and sponsors are being confirmed daily.

The track listing for the upcoming DVD, "An-THOR-ology" is:

Une petite story-interview intéressante de Thor, où il explique en quoi il était un précurseur :)

http://hub.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/articl ... 1/1104/HUB

The music biz has had its share of enigmatic, transcendent characters. David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Gene Simmons. Enduring creatures who will never die.

Jon Mikl Thor is one of these characters, going beyond even the realm of enigmatic. You can call him an entertainer, but that doesn't really do justice to a man who's been a top competitive weight lifter, an actor, a film and record producer, an entrepreneur, a stripper, and a comic book superhero come-to-life fronting a heavy metal band.

"I'm an inventor," said Thor, the self-proclaimed Original Rock Warrior, after a press conference in New York City. "Like Einstein."

This soft-spoken, multi-talented hulk of a man is modest even when comparing himself to the famous theoretical physicist. For 30 years, Thor has influenced major changes in the climate of popular music, from glam and glitter, to metal and big hair, to the aggressive muscle rock of Henry Rollins. But ironically, and unfortunately, you've probably never heard of him.

"I've never had a No. 1 hit," he said. "But I've created an industry over the years."

His industry is his image and his over-the-top live show. If you know Mötley Crüe, Manowar, GWAR, or David Lee Roth, then you know Thor. Since the early '70s, with his sculpted body usually clad in Nordic battle gear, he's been wielding ax or hammer "He-Man"-style, bending steel bars, blowing up hot water bottles until they explode in his face, staging gladiator-type sword fights, and encouraging audience members to jackhammer slabs of concrete off his chest. All the while, he's kicking out sets of glam rock and fueled-up early '80s-type metal such as Judas Priest and WASP.

It's stuff you won't see on a rock stage. Ever. Anywhere.

"People are crazy for theatrical rock again," he said. "I see people in their teens and 20s who've only heard rap and hip-hop, having a great time, pumping their fists. We're a new band to them, not like a nostalgia act."

When Thor was 14, he was quiet, naturally athletic Jon Mikl, living in Vancouver, sneaking out of his parent's house to weight train. He had an obsessive passion for comic book superheroes; he wanted to become one.

"It's that larger-than-life, iconic status," he said. "People are still coming out in droves for movies like 'Batman Begins', 'The Fantastic Four.'"

As a teenager in the early '70s, he won top body-sculpting contests such as Mr. Canada and eventually competed against the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno for Mr. USA and Mr. Universe.

But his love for comics and early heavy metal from Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Iron Butterfly soon overshadowed his drive to compete on the weightlifting circuit. That's when Jon Mikl picked up a microphone and became Thor, the King of Muscle Rock.

"David Bowie was the Thin White Alien, Alice Cooper was the Horror King - I wanted to be the Rock Gladiator," he said.

His parents, polka lovers originally from Austria, didn't quite approve of what he was doing.

"They didn't understand at first," he said. "They wanted me to play accordion."

He took his act to Las Vegas and landed an appearance on "The Merv Griffin Show," performing for even more disapproving people. He stunned the older crowd with a bizarre, pseudo-strip tease, complete with hammer wielding and hot-water-bottle-blowing. He sang a cover of Sweet's "Action," backed by Griffin's orchestra which was desperately trying to pull off the heavy rock song. It was awesomely ridiculous -- in a good way.

"It was a matter of being on stage," he said. "I was honing my craft."

As the '70s melded into the '80s, Thor dropped the pretty-boy act and settled into more of a god-of-metal image, writing songs like "Thunder on the Tundra," "Keep the Dogs Away," and "Let the Blood Run Red." He put on elaborate shows and produced and starred in some of the campiest movies of the '80s, including 1987's "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare."

Musically, Thor disappeared for a while in the '90s, devoting his rainbow of creative energies to producing films. But the call to perform live again was strong.

On his new album, Thor Against the World, Thor rocks out like Danzig starring in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" - all sci-fi effects and super-human lyrics, all wonderfully tacky.

Thor also just appeared with Lou Diamond Phillips in the USA Network movie "Murder at the Presidio," and U.K.'s Classic Rock recently listed him as one of the "Greatest 100 Frontmen of All Time" alongside Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, and even Elvis.

"It's an honor," he said. "People remembering your music all this time."

With the new CD and a hilariously endearing career retrospective DVD, "An-Thor-Logy," the ageless warrior is successfully luring yet another generation of rockers into his lair. He's done it before.

"I read an interview with Vince Neil, and he said he took a lot of his early image (for Mötley Crüe) from my Keep the Dogs Away album," said Thor. "I was before him, way ahead of that. I was the originator."

Sinon ils font une blague en ce moment sur leur site pour justifier sa récente blessure lors d'un concert :
After conquering over 40 cities and towns in as many days, THOR "The Mighty Rock Warrior" was struck down by an unimaginably powerful bolt of lightning!

This unthinkable event took place in Portland where he was performing for dazzled audiences. As he placed the steel bar to his lips in order to bend it in half with his muscular arms, lightning split the sky and struck him down. He managed to finish the show, but immediately afterwards was rushed into the care of Venus (nurse to the Gods). Due to these unforseen circumstances THOR was forced to cancel the remaining dates on the tour. He is quite fully recovered now and plans to tour again this winter. Look for dates soon.

Fiou!
