Cathedral - The Garden of Unearthly Delights

Quatre ans après leur dernier album en date, il serait temps... Sortie prévue pour l'automne!

British Doomster CATHEDRAL will enter New Rising studios in North Essex (PORCUPINE TREE, RAGING SPEEDHORN) in early May to record the follow-up to »The Seventh Coming« (2001). Warren Ryker (DOWN, CROWBAR) will produce CATHEDRAL's eighth slow-motion attack which is tentatively titled »The Garden Of Unearthly Delights«.

The band's debut release for NUCLEAR BLAST will once more be crowned by one of Dave Patchett's unique cover artworks und is stuffed with titles fitting the occasion: 'Corpsecycle', 'Tree Of Life & Death', 'Upon Azrael's Wings' and 'Oro The Manslayer' are some of them.

The new material is – according to vocalist Lee Dorrian - supposed to be "a lot heavier and slightly more unusual than our last album, and it will be an album of two halfs". What a band like CATHEDRAL means when a word like "unusual" it mentioned, will be revealed with the album release this autumn...

Produced by Warren Ryker (DOWN, CROWBAR), "The Garden of Unearthly Delights" is probably the most varied effort of the band so far. While a song like "North Berwick Witch Trials" will bring back memories of such immortal riffs 'n' groove as in "Hopkins" or "Ride", "Tree of Life And Death" simply tears everything to pieces with its ultra-heavy guitar sound and fierce vocals courtesy of Lee Dorrian. The centerpiece of it all certainly is the 27-minute-long mammoth epos "The Garden" that almost bursts with such a wealth of ideas and changes in atmosphere that other bands probably couldn't come up with on a whole album. Using every stylistic device from female vocals up to violins and embedding it all in that typical CATHEDRAL brand of doom, "The Garden of Unearthly Delights" is a treat for every fan of the band, old and new alike.

L'édition limitée de l'album aurait l'odeur de la pomme

The limited-edition digipack version of the new CATHEDRAL CD, "The Garden of Unearthly Delights", will reportedly include a CD shaped as an apple. Not only that, but heat built up during playback and rubbing of the label side of the CD will also reveal a green apple scent.

Nuclear Blast Records, long known for their special packages and special promotions, has started to use Sony's Sniffle Disc technology. According to http://www.sonydadc.com, the aroma can be placed on all parts of the label-print and is released by rubbing the label. A Sniffle Disc will last for approximately one year and is available for CD-Audio and CD-ROM. It can also be combined with other Sony DADC Specials. Flower scents like rose or jasmine can be used to underline romantic themes or fruit scents like peach used for your Summer Hit Compilation. Whatever you choose, the Sniffle Disc will make your CD stand out from the crowd.

The new CATHEDRAL CD, which is scheduled to be issued in the U.S. in January 2006, appears to be the first major heavy metal release to feature this special technology.

Bon alors? Je suis le seul à avoir acheté l'album? (probablement que oui en plus... ).

Pas très facile d'accès cet album, c'est chouette, va falloir 3000 écoutes avant de le connaître par coeur.
Comme toujours avec Cathedral, les fans adoreront, les autres s'en fouteront.

Bon, je vais jouer aux Legos, ça sera plus constructif.

Si moi aussi je l'ai acheté. Je le trouve vraiment pas mal, mais comme tu dis, il faut bien plusieurs écoutes pour apprécier. M'enfin c'est Cathedral, pas Limp Bizkit !
Un bon album................................................................pour les amateurs.

En fait, plus t'avances dans l'album, plus ça devient barré. Le dernier morceau est vraiment génial, dans l'esprit de The Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien sur Statik Majik. Ca part bien en vrille, j'adore!

Le troisième morceau est vraiment excellent, on dirait du Celtic Frost mélangé à du vieux Black Sab.

Je trouve que l'album est divisé en deux parties: la première avec des titres accorcheurs et bien rock, et la deuxième avec des trucs complètement barrés sentant bon l'omelette aux champignons magiques J'aime bien

J'ai un peu de mal avec cet album, le coté "ooouh yeah" manque un peu à l'appel et seuls quelques riffs surnagent au milieu d'une soupe aux champis un petit peu indigeste. D'un autre côté, je ne l'ai écouté qu'une dizaine de fois. Cependant, le dernier bestiau de 27mn est pas mal dingo et se tient bien sur la longueur... Quant à la pochette, elle est vraiment superbe, une fois de plus, vraiment lumineuse, je manque de superlatifs...La photo du groupe en "repete" (inside booklet) sent bon la résine.
Okay, l'odeur de pomme collector est bien chimique et n'apporte rien (ben si, comme un con, je me suis fait avoir par cet argument marketing!!!)
En bon fan crétin, je dirais jamais de mal mais il ne me semble pas être leur meilleur album.

Ah! enfin, Cathedral est de retour ! Quel bonheur, c'est un groupe que j'adore, et en effet il faut de nombreuses écoutes pour en découvrir toutes les subtilités (comme tout "bon" album)...Plus on avance dans ce "voyage", plus on est surpris, et le dernier morceau est carrément un rêve.
Les paroles aussi sont très intéressantes.
Quant à l'odeur de pomme, pourquoi pas après tout, s'ils ont trouvé que cela collait au concept.
Bref : Long Live CATHEDRAL !!!

@ Stan : le côté stoner rock est moins prononcé qu'il y a quelques années, mais c'était déjà le cas sur Endtyme et The VIIth Coming.
