[DVD] ICED EARTH : Alive in Athens

Le 31 octobre devrait sortir en DVD, le "alive in athen".
en double en triple ?

Pour moi ce triple live est une tueurie, si ce DVD sort, j'espère que ce sera en totalité.

Clair que les 3CD en vidéo ça serait terrible! Mais j'en doute, je suis pas sûr qu'ils aient filmé chaque concert (y'en avait au moins 2 à Athènes non?)

Non je dis tant pis, je trouve ça dommage pour un groupe qui allait exploser de chuter comme ça. Barlow c'est une partie du problème, Schaffer une autre partie beaucoup plus grosse.

J'ai une vhs avec quelques morceaux du Alive In Athens (de ce que je me souviens, il y a Dark Saga, Watching over me, Pure Evil et quelques autres). Ça semble avoir été enregistré sur une chaîne allemande (c'est pas chez nous qu'on verrait ça).

Y a quelques années, j'avais lu une interview de Schaeffer dans Hard Rock, où à la question :"pourquoi ne pas sortir un dvd ou une video du mythique triple live", il repondait que ces concerts avaient eu lieu dans une petite salle en fait, et qu'ils etaient statiques sur scène du fait du peu de place, et que donc peu d'intérêt pour une vidéo, qu'ils filmeraient un concert ulterieur, plus important.

C'est une sortie de Century Media, l'ancien label de Iced Earth.

Et non pas une initiative de Schaffer, du moins ça n'en a pas l'air...

ouais bien dommage, Iced earth quand j'ai découvert c'est vite devenu un de mes groupes préférés, et ce triple live est ultime je trouve. Mais depuis c'est vrai que c'est bof, sans plus.......*

Mais j'espère pouvoir les voir en live au moins une fois, et le plus tot possible

Schaffer dénonce cette sortie :

"I've been asked recently about the release of the 'Alive in Athens' DVD and I want my position on this to be very clear to all of the ICED EARTH fans out there. In my opinion, this is purely a money grab on behalf of Century Media Records. The reason that it was never released before is because the footage is substandard. This was only a three-camera shoot that was done for a German music television channel called Viva. I hosted the show as a guest VJ and played videos from different bands as well as a few tunes from the 'Alive in Athens' concert.

"About a year ago, Century Media contacted me and asked if I'd like to be involved in doing this. I said that I did not think it was a good idea based on my memory of the footage, but to go ahead and send me some of the camera angles on DVD so I could think about it. After viewing the footage I felt that it would be extremely difficult to make a release that would live up to the standards that we have set for ICED EARTH over the years. So I turned the project down.

"Several weeks ago, I learned that they were determined to release this DVD anyway. When I found this out I asked to see the edit and they obliged. After viewing it and seeing how weak it is I asked if they would be willing to fly me over and rework some of the edits. The answer was no, they did not think it could be done better. That translates into, 'We don't want to spend the money to make it the best it can be.'

"So here's the deal: I want you all to be aware of what it is that they are releasing. This is a very low-budget, badly edited video of an amazing concert and an awesome period in the history of ICED EARTH. They promised me that they are going to keep the price down and that they are not going to market it as something it's not. But I feel it's my responsibility to let you know the reality of the situation.

"I've often regretted that there was never a high-quality filming of the band during that period but it was something that we could never persuade the label to do. And it's not cheap if you do it right.

"ICED EARTH will be filming a real DVD on the next world tour. This will be what the fans have been waiting for. It will consist of a 16-camera crew with cranes and a real stage show and all of the things necessary to finally bring to the fans a state-of-the-art DVD that will really give you the feeling of being at an ICED EARTH show.

"The decision to purchase the 'Alive in Athens' DVD is up to you. I just want you to be aware of what it is you're getting should you choose to do so.

"I don't want to make it sound like it's some horrible bootleg, because it's not — it's just not up to the standards that you've come to expect from us."

C'est sûr qu'ils peuvent sortir un mega DVD de la prochaine tournée avec six caméras, des split screen en veux-tu en voilà, ça changera rien. Le DVD Alive In Athens, je l'achète, l'autre j'attendrais qu'il passe à la télé

Il est vrai que c'est pas ultra-bien réalisé, mais c'était quand même en 98. De toute façon, c'est quand même moins pire que Cliff'Em All (le prix d'un dvd normal pour des bootlegs) ou le DVD de Shaffer, justement.

Je trouve qu'Iced est devenu l'ombre de lui même, en faite depuis l'album "The glorious burden" sorti en 2004, plus rien, entre les tournées annulées, les changement de line up, ripper Owens qui se consacre a BEYOND FEAR, ça fait pas lourd. Si j'oubliais le DVD mini durée, maxi prix qui n'as pas marqué les esprits.

En fait le dernier bon souvenir remonte au concert de 3 h à l'Elysee montmartre qui fut cultissime de chez cultissime.

C'est pas John qui voulait sortir la part 2 de something wicked ?

Pour le DVD live in athens, je pense que Century Media le sortira quand même, c'est l'ancien label et combien de fois ce fut le cas ou des labels ont sorti des produits sur leur ancien groupe.

Pas de quoi se plaindre non plus. Avec seulement trois caméra on devrait tout voir et échapper à un montage épileptique immonde comme c'est la mode. Ca devrait même être sobre, ô joie ! Si le son est bon (et le tarif aussi tant qu'on y est), on peut espérer un bon dvd.
