Pete Way (ex-UFO) atteint d'un cancer

La "bonne" nouvelle, c'est qu'il a été détecté assez tôt et que Pete a de bonnes chances.

According to Classic Rock magazine, former UFO bass player Pete Way has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 62-year-old rocker is currently receiving treatment and feels "good, positive and determined to beat it," he told the magazine.

As a result, the release date of Way's new solo album, "Walking On The Edge", has been postponed until next year.

Speaking to Classic Rock, Way said: "I'm lucky. This is prostate cancer. It's not lung cancer. It's not pancreatic cancer. If you're going to get cancer, this is the best one you can have — and they caught it early."

According to Way, his cancer was uncovered by accident after he underwent routine liver scans to determine the state of his battered liver, enlarged by hepatitis and years of abuse.

"My liver has been the area of most concern over the years," he said. "But they did a scan of that whole area around my abdomen and that's when they found it.

"They didn't tell me then. I went home and a few days later they sent me a letter saying I had to see the specialist and it ‘might be an idea to bring someone with me to the hospital.'

"Even then, it didn't click, I thought they just wanted me to bring someone to drive me home."

Way told Classic Rock that he is speaking out about his cancer battle because he wants other men to get themselves checked.

"I was lucky — they were checking my liver, not my prostate. They found it by accident. I didn't think I had any symptoms but when I spoke to the doctors, and they were asking me all those questions, I did have the symptoms. I just didn't know what they were."

He added: "It happens a lot to men my age, 50 and over. I was telling Mike Clink [legendary UFO and GUNS N' ROSES producer/engineer, who is twiddling the knobs for Way's new album) about it and Mike said, 'Man, more or less every man I know in California has this. Don't worry, Pete — you'll be fine.' Everyone has been really positive. And that makes me feel positive, too."

ça fait quand même quelques années qu'il a des soucis de santé. Il traine une réputation de fétard invétéré depuis toujours et c'est bien le contraire qui serait étonnant. Mais j'adore ce type. A la grande époque, sa présence sur scène marquait les esprits. C'était un pur Rocker.

Ouais, étonnant qu'il soit encore en vie, et pareil pour Iggy Pop, Lemmy, Ozzy, Keith Richards, etc. : pas grand monde n'aurait parié il y a 30 ans qu'ils seraient encore en vie en 2013.
Bon rétablissement en tout cas à Pete Way, c'est un vrai rocker, comme le dit l'ami the fab.

Former UFO and Waysted bassist Pete Way has been given the all-clear after a battle with prostate cancer with which he was diagnosed last year. Way's solo album Walking On The Edge, which was put on hold during his health battle, is due for release later this year.

The 63-year-old rocker tells Classic Rock Magazine: "I met some amazing people during my treatment. I had radiotherapy and all that stuff, and I'll never be able to listen to an addict again tell me how hard it is to stop using. I'd say, 'You're fucking mad - just come down to the cancer club to put it all into perspective.' I'm ashamed when I think of the things I did, testing every drug you can imagine."

"I thought the blood in my pee must have been linked to the drugs I had taken down the years," he said. "When they said I had cancer, I thought I was going to die. Then when they told me it was gone, it was a strange anticlimax — now I can't use the cancer as an excuse for having a sore head."

He continues: "I'm sad to say that I've lost touch with some of the people I met during my treatment. I have no idea if some of them are alive or dead. My heart goes out to them and their families. I was so lucky that I had symptoms, because some people don't, and then it can be too late to treat.

"All men over 50 should go and get tested - it's a simple procedure and it could save your life."

Pete vient d'être victime d'une attaque cardiaque, et a des caillots sanguins. Il est à l'hôpital, suivi par des cardiologues.

Bassist Pete Way is facing another health crisis. The 65-year-old former bassist for UFO has suffered a heart attack. In the summer of 2013, Way was diagnosed with prostate cancer during a routine check-up. A year later, he had officially beaten the disease, and he also expressed remorse about having lived a rock and roll lifestyle for so many years. Hopefully, he can recover from this too.

On August 13th, his wife released the following statement. "My husband Pete Way has collapsed after a short business trip to Germany and is currently in hospital being treated by cardiologists. He has had a heart attack and a blood clot has been found on his lung. Needless to say I am in bits but Pete is fighting like he always does. We are not going to lose another one. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers."

Way co-founded UFO in London in 1969, but left in 1982, during which time he played bass with Ozzy Osbourne. The band broke up in 1983, but re-formed a year later, with Way waiting until 1988 to return to the fold. He remained with the band through 2011.
