Spiritual Healing me semble un très bon album au niveau des riffs notamment sur la chanson titre avec ce beuglement SPIRITUAL HEEEEAAALING !!! et après le solo incroyable. Le riff d'ouverture de Living Monstrosity est un de mes passages favoris; il crochète littéralement le tympan. Genetic Reconstruction est également excellent avec son premier riff qui se coupe brutalement pour laisser la place au second tout aussi bon mais surprenant avant de revenir sur du death bien huilé.
Mais perso, je trouve que les structures des chansons ne sont pas aussi grandioses que dans d'autres albums, notamment au niveau de la section rythmique parfois un peu terne. En plus, même si je trouve que la voix de Chuck a gagné en excellence, il ressemble parfois à un John Tardy sur le retour.
Il n'empêche que j'adore également l'album et que sa pochette est l'une de mes favorites

Death :"The sound of perseverance" reissue => 1000 copies vendues aux US dès la premiere semaine.
Premiere ressortie de la serie.
The reissue of DEATH's seventh and final album, "The Sound Of Perseverance", sold around 1,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 47 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Sound Of Perseverance" was reissued on February 15 in North America (February 21 internationally) via Relapse Records. The first in a series of official DEATH reissues slated for 2011, the LP has been remastered from the original studio tapes and expanded to include previously unreleased demo material. The reissue also includes enhanced artwork and liner notes from the original cover artist Travis Smith as well as liner notes from DEATH guitarist Shannon Hamm and never-before-seen photographs from "The Sound Of Perseverance" era. A special deluxe version of the "The Sound Of Perseverance" reissue includes a third bonus disc of unreleased material and is only available via Relapse mailorder and digitally via iTunes.

The bulk of DEATH's catalog was made available digitally for the first time. "Scream Bloody Gore", "Leprosy", "Spiritual Healing", "Human", "Individual Thought Patterns" and "The Sound Of Perseverance" can be purchased via iTunes at this location.
Relapse recently released an expanded version of the classic debut album, "The Fragile Art Of Existence", from Schuldiner's progressive heavy metal band CONTROL DENIED. The reissue includes bonus tracks, extra band photography, expanded art and packaging and more.
A Chuck Schuldiner biography by Ian Christe — author of "Sound Of The Beast" and "Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga", and host on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack — is also being planned.
Schuldiner passed away on December 13, 2001 at age 34 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

Au moins, ils ont mis les bonus sur d'autres CD, mais franchement, rien de vraiment intéressant. Quoi que ça me donne envie de ressortir mon CD.

DEATH's legendary fourth album, "Human", will mark its 20th anniversary with an official reissue on June 21 in North America (June 27 internationally) via Relapse Records. The LP was entirely remixed by longtime DEATH producer Jim Morris and remastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, CONVERGE, MISFITS). This special 20th-anniversary edition of the album will come complete with expanded packaging featuring liner notes from Morris as well as former DEATH/current CYNIC guitarist Paul Masvidal and over an hour of newly unearthed, previously unreleased early demo tracks.
"Human" will be available on two- and three-disc sets as well as digitally.
Commented Morris (pictured below): "[This was] an awesome experience for me." He added, "We were contacted by Chuck Schuldiner's intellectual property lawyer, Eric Greif, the former manager of DEATH."
Added Eric Greif: "The former DEATH guys Paul Masvidal (guitar), Sean Reinert (drums) and Steve DiGiorgio (bass) are all 'ecstatic' about the prospect of a heavier mix, where all the instruments can be heard and modern technology utilized. Jim said he took into account everything he and Chuck agreed upon during the making of 'Symbolic' (1995) and 'The Sound Of Perseverance' (1998) as his guide for what he believed Chuck would want from such a remix. I myself am thrilled."

J'ai toujours trouvé étrange que symbolic soit l'album que preferent beaucoup de personnes alors que c'est le plus technique et alambiqué. J'ai même rencontré des gens ayant genre 5 cds de metal dont celui-ci et qui l'adorent. C'etait mon premier du groupe aussi et j'ai toujours été surpris d'aimer cet album, je ne sais pas comment d'autre l'exprimer.
J'ai voté pour spiritual healing, une de mes plus grosses claques en metal, efficace et puissant et avec un atout que je n'ai jamais retrouvé ailleurs : tous les morceaux ont (au moins) un riff excellent, parmi les meilleurs riffs du style.
L'album médian parfait.

Je viens de la visionner, c'est la vidéo parue à l'époque, je me souviens l'avoir vue sur M6 et l'émission Metal Express...
En tout cas je redécouvre carrément ce titre, je l'avais pas écouté depuis...pfffff je saurais même pas le dire, et ça fait bien plaisir!
Cette réedition vaut-elle le coup?

J'avais voté Spiritual Healing sans développer mon choix, parce que c'est un peu l'album charnière entre le Death primitif des débuts et le Death plus technico-mélodique (tout est relatif hein ) par la suite. Mais bon c'est dur de choisir là aujourd'hui, j'ai envie de dire tous en fait.
J'adore un peu moins Leprosy que le reste de la disco mais sinon c'est du tout bon! J'ai même redécouvert "Sound Of Perseverance", que j'avais un peu boudé à sa sortie. Sinon je considère un peu le "Fragile Art.." de Control Denied" comme le dernier album de Death.
Je me demande comment aurait évolué sa musique, sans doute vers Control Denied, plus heavy ou alors vers d'autres horizons. Il aurait peut être fait un duo Jazz avec Alex Skolnick, tout ça. ou il aurait à nouveau révolutionné le metal. Bon on saura jamais. Sniff.
Pour moi Symbolic est aussi leur plus accessible et un des moins techniques dans la période des '90s notamment au niveau de la gratte solo qui privilégie le feeling aux parties bien techniques qu'on trouve sur Individual et Human par exemple
