Former METAL CHURCH Bassist Arrested For Allegedly Running Pot-Growing Operation

According to The News Tribune, Stephen Wesley Ungerbuehler — who was known as Steve Unger (MySpace page) when he played bass for METAL CHURCH from 2004 to 2009 — was arrested Monday (August 23) for allegedly leading a three-county marijuana-growing operation in the Washington state. He was charged Wednesday with leading organized crime, unlawfully manufacturing a controlled substance and money laundering. Pleas of not guilty were entered on his behalf.

He's being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Ungerbuehler's attorney, Jay Berneburg, told The News Tribune his client "adamantly denies" the allegations against him. Berneburg said Ungerbuehler is a professional musician who travels and has earned his money legitimately through record sales, concerts and other contracts.

"This is another case of the war on drugs run amok," Berneburg said.

Je demande juste le retour de Kirk Arrington à la batterie et de leur ancien chanteur Mike Howe, et c'est bon je suis heureux. Même si je doute que ça arrive...

Le split n'aura duré que 3 ans, c'était plus une pause qu'autre chose finalement.

METAL CHURCH — Ronny Munroe on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Jay Reynolds on guitars, Steve Unger on bass, and Jeff Plate on drums — will celebrate their official reunion on board 70000 Tons Of Metal, the world's biggest heavy metal cruise.

For one of their two shows on board, they will play their debut album, "Metal Church", in its entirety. The other show will be a "greatest-hits" set. And guess what? You will be able to vote the songs for the "greatest-hits" setlist. More details on how to vote will be announced soon.

METAL CHURCH called it quits after performing at the Rocklahoma festival in July 2009 in Pryor, Oklahoma.

Excellent ! C'est vrai que même sans maison de disque ou tournée, il y a tellement de festivals maintenant qu'il y a de quoi les occuper une bonne partie de l'année.

Grand fan du groupe, cela ne me réjouit pas plus que ça. Les dernières productions étaient mal inspirées et j'aime définitivement pas la voix de Monroe.

j'avais bien aimé A light in the dark...par contre j'ai pas écouté le dernier. Je serais content de les voir sur scène, ça change de enslaved et machine head

Pareil, et la voix de Munroe me bloque également.

c'est quand même un monde,quand Running Wild a annoncé son retour peu apres le split,il n'y a eu que moqueries de la part de certains et la même cas de figure et tout le monde se prosterne...il y a quelque chose de pourri au royaume des defenders

Ce n'est pas tout à fait comparable quand même : Running Wild a annoncé son split en grandes pompes avec concert final en tête d'affiche à Wacken, DVD, compilation, promis juré c'est la dernière, etc. Donc forcément le fait de revenir même pas 2 ans après engendre les moqueries.
Alors que Metal Church ont splitté discrètement on va dire, ou du moins sobrement, sans faire de tintamarre. La "reformation" (qui ne m'enthousiasme pas plus que ça perso) est également discrète, ce qui ne laisse pas autant matière à sarcasme sur la durée de leur "split".
Mais c'est sûr que dans un cas comme dans l'autre, on peut difficilement parler de split, plutôt de pause.

De toute façon, tant que David Wayne sera mort, on sera déçu.

Parce que Howe pue du cul?

Malheureusement, le seul chanteur encore actif dans cette ligue c'est visiblement Rivera et pas question qu'il les rejoigne, Malice c'est déjà assez.

peut être mais seulement parce que Metal Church n'a jamais atteint la notorieté de Running Wild.
en plus ils ont splitté deux fois quand même...jusqu'a la prochaine.

J'aurais préféré une reformation avec "Mike Howe".

Tout le monde - ou presque - adorerait que Mike Howe revienne, mais je pense que ça n'arrivera jamais, ça fait 10 ans que le groupe le tanne et il est vraiment passé à autre chose. Quoique quand on voit Coroner qui a juré pendant des années qu'il n'y aurait pas reformation...

Interview de Ronny Munroe à ce sujet :

BraveWords.com: Ronny, it is a triumphant day in metal. Metal Church will be reuniting on the 70000 Tons Of Metal Cruise next year (complete details here). Tell us how this all transpired.

Munroe: "Basically, Kurdt and I have been talking through out the years since the break-up since we are friends not just band mates. He called me a few weeks ago and asked me if I was ready to do this again. He has a bunch of cool ideas. Basically, that when we do come out we will work on not being treated like we were treated before. Not that we were treated badly but we never really got the respect that we deserved. That has something to do with why we broke up in the first place. Among other things. Basically, he just called me up and wants to do it again. Who's going to say no to that."

BraveWords.com: Is there going to be a tour following the Cruise? Are there any tour plans in progress?

Munroe: "Right now we are going to see what happens with the cruise and then go from there."

BraveWords.com: What can the fans expect to see on the Cruise? I know everyone is excited about this event.

Munroe: "Actually, yes it is going to be pretty special. We are going to do the whole first record in one of our sets. Because when you are on that cruise I believe you do two sets. One is going to be the full first Metal Church record. After that the next set will be the greatest hits from all three eras of the band. It is going to be a blast. It will be fun to get out there and get with the boys. We will see what happens afterwards."

BraveWords.com: Any plans to go into the studio and record?

Munroe: "Right now like I said we are going to play the cruise and play it by ear after that."

BraveWords.com: Also, you are in a band called FIREWOLFE. Tell us about this.

Munroe: "This is a project with a couple of guys that I know. Nick Layton and Paul Kleff I knew Nick from a few years ago. He hit me up to do a project with him. At the time I wasn't available. A really good guitar player Paul Kleff is also in the band. It is just straight ahead power metal. It is just something to keep me busy. The songs these guys write are really good. I have to be able to sing or else I will go nuts. For Firewolfe we will see what happens in the future."

BraveWords.com: Also the video 'The Vision' for your solo release has been released.

Munroe: "Yes, the video for my song 'The Vision' off of my second solo release. The album is called Lords Of The Edge. It has been out for over a year now. I worked with a guy out of Australia called Stu Marshall. He did a lot on the record. He played some of the instruments. Some of the songs he produced with me. It is a solid metal record. I am pretty proud of it. I am going to do some gigs in NY in November. About three shows I believe. After that I am going to close the chapter on that one and see what happens with Metal Church and Firewolfe. I will write another record when the times comes."

BraveWords.com: How does it feel to be part of the legacy of Metal Church again? The band is going to open up a whole new chapter.

Munroe: "It was a blessing for me to get the gig in the first place. Now to come back and have the fans still there wanting to see us is a blessing. We all still get along. We have Jay Reynolds back now, Steve Unger, Jeff Plate and Kurdt Vanderhoof. I am looking forward to getting out there playing on the cruise for the fans. Having a great time and reintroducing ourselves. After that hopefully goes well, we will probably do something else. We will see."

Perso, je trouve ces annonces de reformation après trois ans de split aussi ridicules l'une que l'autre

Je ne trouve pas ça si comparable avec le cas de Running Wild, vu qu'ils n'ont pas capitalisé sur l'annonce de leur split. Et je ne pense pas qu'ils aient eu des offres supérieures à ce qu'ils avaient avant leur split, pas comme Immortal par exemple.

According to Vanderhoof, "Generation Nothing" — which was recorded at Kurdt's English Channel studio in Washingtion — marks a "return to [METAL CHURCH's] classic metal sound. It has elements of the first album and 'The Dark', but still embraces the new sound of the band without chasing the past."

Munroe said in a recent interview with Metal Assault that the new METAL CHURCH effort would contain material that is "very reminiscent of the old days with some stuff that's very 'now.'" He added: "There's a bit of… I'm not going to say 'prog' because it's not, but there's a couple of elements in there that are a little bit progressive. For the most part, out of this batch of songs, they really sound more reminiscent of the early days than anything we've done before with this lineup. This excites me very much, and I think the fans are really going to dig it."
