Following up last year's acclaimed "In His Infernal Majesty's Service" album, Swedish blackened thrash metallers WITCHERY have announced the release of their new album, "I Am Legion", for November 10 via Century Media Records.

As with the previous album, "I Am Legion" was created in the WITCHERY lineup consisting of Angus Norder (vocals), Patrik Jensen (guitar), Rickard Rimfält (lead guitar), Sharlee D'Angelo (bass) and Chris Barkensjö (drums). The disc was also produced and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at Dugout Studios (BEHEMOTH, IN FLAMES, MESHUGGAH) and comes packaged in powerful artwork by Andreas Diaz Pettersson, which can be seen below.

The album's first single, "True North", is being launched today with a video produced by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media. Check it out below.

Jensen commented: "The first few days after the release of 'Nosferatu' (the first single from 2016's 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service' album), I was quite taken aback. There had been so many years between the releases of 'Don't Fear The Reaper' and 'Witchkrieg' (four years) and then an additional six more years between 'Witchkrieg' and 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service' that I hardly thought anyone remembered WITCHERY anymore...

We got our shit together for 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service' in order to celebrate the band's twentieth anniversary. We wrote new songs and got a few new members so we could make the album happen and have it released in 2016. But that was the goal; to merely celebrate the band's twenty years of existence. Then, after 'Nosferatu' was released, this massive wave of appreciation started to surface. When the full album dropped in November 2016, we experienced a surge of positive feedback on the rest of the album as well. I mean, we all loved the album and knew it was good, but we were thrilled to see that also other people heard what we heard; that it was a great album and that this lineup had both the chops and riffs needed, displaying them with an enthusiasm and bravado perhaps not seen since maybe the early days of the band's existence! This feedback of positive energy set things in motion within the band.

"Remembering our promise from somewhere around the release of the 'Dead, Hot And Heavy' album that we would put out two albums a year (youthful hubris, anyone?), we thought to ourselves: 'Let's try to put out a new album within a year of the release of 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service'. Said and done.

"So here we are. It's August 2017, and we are very happy and immensely proud to announce 'I Am Legion', the new full-length follow-up album to 2016's 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service', scheduled for release on November 10th!

"With 'I Am Legion' having the same lineup, the same studio (Dugout Studios) and the same producer (Danne Bergstrand) as on 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service', you just know that this will be yet another sonic fist-to-the-face riffage offering!

"We think 'In His Infernal Majesty's Service' is a great album, but we also think 'I Am Legion' takes everything up a notch or two!

"Those of you who saw us play at Wacken a few weeks ago got to hear the world premiere of the song 'True North', which will be the first single from the new album.

"We are very excited about 'I Am Legion' and we hope this release shows that WITCHERY, albeit after 20 years of existence, isn't going to fade away. On the contrary, WITCHERY is more likely entering the most productive phase yet in the band's career!"

Jensen continued by adding the following comment about the album's first single: "'True North' is somewhat of a different song compared to what WITCHERY usually puts out. Maybe that's why we made it the first song on the new album? Regardless, it's a song that we in the band all really like and that most likely will become a regular in our live set."

WITCHERY is:

Angus Norder - Vocals
Patrik Jensen - Guitar
Rickard Rimfält - Lead Guitar
Sharlee D'Angelo - Bass
Chris Barkensjö - Drums

Le groupe revendique de chercher un son plus authentique et d'enregistrer live en studio, et un clip pour le prouver :
On whether the "raw" production job found on "I Am Legion" was intentional:

Patrik: "It's very much a conscious decision because I've grown somewhat 'metal fatigue.' The newer productions that bands come out [with]. Everything sounds the same. Everyone is running the same plug-ins. All of this, 'I'm using this sample drum library. It sounds fantastic. [Famed METALLICA producer] Bob Rock did it, blah, blah.' Yeah, it sounds fantastic, but then everyone uses it. It gets boring, predictable. Also, if you play to a click, that means everyone, usually there's some driving force in a band like maybe, Malcolm Young would be the driving force in AC/DC and everyone plays around him or a drummer, so you get this unique band signature timing, but if everyone plays along to a click, that means that everyone has the same fifth or sixth member. There's always this guy that he or she is keeping the pace, which is the click track. And it just makes everything sound the same. WITCHERY has always made a point out of recording live. With this album, we went into the studio saying that 'We want the album to sound like old, natural drums.' I actually told [producer] Daniel Bergstrand that I wanted it to sound like VAN HALEN's drums on '1984', just something that people don't hear anymore these days. We are very happy with the outcome. It might be a silly word, but I want my metal to sound dangerous, like MOTÖRHEAD or something, old MOTÖRHEAD albums, you never knew what was going to happen. Maybe we're not as dirty and smelly as MOTÖRHEAD, but we still want to have that… you put on a WITCHERY album, we want to give the feeling that this band means business, that we love to play music. We try to create something, that's what we're trying to do."

J'avais mal vu. Legion chante bien sur l'album precedent, mais seulement sur 2 morceaux ;-)

Nouvel album avec des invités.
Swedish blackened thrash metal pioneers, Witchery, announce their eighth studio album, Nightside, set for release worldwide on July 22 via Century Media Records.

Following 2017’s much acclaimed I Am Legion album, Nightside was recorded with the Witchery lineup consisting of Jensen (guitar, The Haunted / ex-Seance), Rickard Rimfält (guitar, Seance), Angus Norder (vocals, Nekrokraft), Victor Brandt (bass, Dimmu Borgir / ex-Entombed A.D.) - who now officially replaces longtime bassist Sharlee D’Angelo – and Chris Barkensjö (drums, LIK / ex-Kaamos).

The album was once again mixed and produced by Daniel Bergstrand (Behemoth, In Flames, etc.) and includes artwork by Andreas “Diaz” Pettersson, which can be seen below.

The first single and video for the razor-sharp track “Popecrusher” is out now. Watch the animated video clip, created by Eduardo Hidalgo & Maciej Pieloch / MPieloch.com & E2h Design Studio, below.

Witchery mastermind Jensen states about “Popecrusher”, “Setting the benchmark for the new album, 'Popecrusher' is the first foreshadowing aural assault from our new album Nightside. All the pieces fell into place with this album and we can't wait for everyone to hear the album in its entirety. Nightside is our first attempt at writing a concept album, and 'Popecrusher' is of course a part of that story. We hope you love the soul-incinerating heaviness of 'Popecrusher' as much as we do. More great things are soon to come. Do the W!"

Jensen adds, “I started to write this album without any general direction of idea in mind, but somewhere in the middle of the writing process I remembered that I've always wanted to do a concept album, so I decided to give it a shot. Little did I know that writing a concept album puts a lot more pressure on each and every song turning out great. This might seem a norm (and I guess it is in some way) but usually you write 12-14 songs and choose the songs that turned out the best after they've been mixed and mastered. Sometimes even what you thought was going to be the first song on the album gets pushed to somewhere else because another track turned out sounding more like an opening track. Also, out of those 12-14 songs you can choose to keep a few a bonus tracks. With a theme album, songs can’t swap places. The story needs to work (no one wants to do a new “The Elder”!), so the opening track really needs to hold up as an opening track etc., thus the extra pressure of "no surprises" after its all recorded. The album tells a story of demonic nightmares, unexplainable pregnancy, witch trails and an escape from the Old Country to the colonies in the west and what happens once the child is born. Guests on this album is, for starters, our permanent guest of honor Hank Shermann, but also guest solos by Maciek Ofstad of Kvelertak and Simon Johansson of Wolf (also the studio owner of SolnaStudio where we recorded the album. We also had the honor of having Jeff Walker of Carcass do guest vocals on the song "A Forest of Burning Coffins". All in all, we are very happy with how the album turned out and with again thrilled over Daniel Bergstrand's killer production…”

Nightside features brief guest appearances on vocals by Jeff Walker (Carcass, on “A Forest of Burning Coffins”, as well as guest guitar leads by Hank Shermann (Mercyful Fate, on “Left Hand March”), Simon Johansson (Wolf, on “Crucifix and Candle”) and Maciek Ofstad (Kvelertak, on “Don’t Burn the Witch”).
