Sammy Hagar (CHICKENFOOT, VAN HALEN, MONTROSE) is back in the studio working on a new album. In the clip below, he's joined by longtime friends, Neal Schon (JOURNEY) and his CHICKENFOOT bandmates Michael Anthony (ex-VAN HALEN), and Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) and they take a break from recording to joke about all the different forms of HSAS.

The original HSAS featured Hagar on vocals, Schon on lead guitar, Kenny Aaronson on bass and Michael Shrieve on drums.

In 1984, HSAS released a semi-live album, recorded during two live performances at the Warfield in San Francisco, entitled "Through The Fire". The CD included a cover version of PROCOL HARUM's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale".

Reformation ?

"Personal Jesus", the new video from Sammy Hagar, can be seen at this location. The song is taken from his first-ever rock collaborations album, "Sammy Hagar And Friends", which sold around 15,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on September 24, 2013 via Frontiers

Hagar enlisted three legendary musicians — Toby Keith, Mickey Hart and Taj Mahal — to round out the final three tracks on "Sammy Hagar And Friends". The effort was preceded by the CD's first single and video for the high-voltage track "Knockdown Dragout" featuring Kid Rock, Joe Satriani and Denny Carmassi.

In addition to the 10-track standard edition album, fans also have an opportunity to purchase a deluxe edition of "Sammy Hagar And Friends", packaged in a high-gloss digipak. The deluxe CD/DVD package includes an exclusive bonus audio track, "Space Station #5", recorded live at the Ronnie Montrose Tribute Concert held on April 29, 2012 in San Francisco, as well as the "making-of" album documentary which includes bonus video of the first single "Knockdown Dragout", and more.

"Sammy Hagar And Friends" track listing:

01. Winding Down (with Taj Mahal)
02. Not Going Down (with Bill Church & Denny Carmassi)
03. Personal Jesus (with Neal Schon, Michael Anthony & Chad Smith)
04. Father Sun (with Denny Carmassi & Aaron Hagar)
05. Knockdown Dragout (with Kid Rock, Joe Satriani, Denny Carmassi)
06. Ramblin' Gamblin' Man (with David Lauser, Mona Gnader & Vic Johnson)
07. Bad On Fords and Chevrolets (with Ronnie Dunn, David Lauser, Mona Gnader & Vic Johnson)
08. Margaritaville (with Toby Keith)
09. All We Need Is An Island (with Nancy Wilson & Mickey Hart)
10. Going Down (with Neal Schon, Michael Anthony & Chad Smith)
11. Space Station #5 (with Denny Carmassi, Bill Church, Joe Satriani) (Live from Ronnie Montrose Tribute * Exclusively available on Deluxe Edition CD)

Legendary guitarist Joe Satriani has confirmed that CHICKENFOOT appears to finally be dead, with all four members of the band focusing on other projects for the foreseeable future.

The group, which also included former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar, ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony andRED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, has not made a CD in four years and Hagar told Rolling Stone last year that there were no plans to work on a new one in the near future. He explained, "I love making music. But doing it on CHICKENFOOT's level means spending a half million on a record. We write and record for six months. It's a lot of work, and then to not sell many records, it's disappointing. I don't like being disappointed. I like winning."

During an appearance on this past Monday's (June 8) edition of Eddie Trunk's SiriusXM satellite radio show, "Eddie Trunk Live", Satriani said that no progress has been made with respect to CHICKENFOOT working on new music, and he doesn't see that situation changing anytime soon.

"It seems like [CHICKENFOOT is pretty much done], yeah," he said. "It seems like the last couple of years of trying to get another record together has been impossible — just too impossible. And everybody kind of wants to do it, but schedules conspire against it. And I started to feel, sort of like, 'Well, I'm really missing it. I'm missing being in a band and collaborating like that. And if this isn't gonna happen, then I'd really love to keep doing it, so maybe I should find somebody else to do it with.' Which is, you know… It's a sad thing."

According to Satriani, he has consistently pushed for CHICKENFOOT to remain active, even when the other members of the band seemed to be losing interest in keeping the project alive.

"I think I was the one who was always banging on those doors, saying to those guys, 'You've gotta come out and make another record. Let's do it,'" he explained.

Satriani revealed that conflicting schedules were at least partly to blame for CHICKENFOOT's inability to continue, although politics played a part as well.

"I think it was always hard [for us to come together and record and tour]," he said. "I mean, the first record was really fun, 'cause it was a crazy idea, but all the other people that we work with suddenly realized, 'Wow! If this thing takes off, what are we gonna do?' And I think that, sort of, started to… That was the beginning of the first dark cloud, and so the second record was harder to pull off, and it made the third one almost impossible. But maybe for a good thing. I mean, you never know with these things."

He continued: "When we get together and play, like we did… Chad and Sammy and I were playing together at the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit about two and a half weeks ago in San Francisco, and that was so much fun; it was great to play with those guys. I think I have a real connection with them. But, at the same time, Sammy's got THE CIRCLE, and their new record is good. Sammy sounds very comfortable there."

Satrani also denied that there were any personal differences between the members of CHICKENFOOT that are standing in the way of the band regrouping for a new record and tour.

"There's great vibes all the way around; everybody loves doing it," he insisted. "I mean, I can't imagine… I really have no excuse, let's put it that way… Honestly, I can't tell you that there's a really good reason why we're not doing it, and that's my complaint, I suppose. I don't understand why anyone would be afraid to try to make new music. I mean, that's our job; that is our only job — to make new music, go out and play music and rock and roll. So anything else is just stuff we shouldn't even think about."

CHICKENFOOT's most recent touring lineup included legendary drummer/musician Kenny Aronoff, who was filling in for Smith while Chad was on the road with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

Supergroup CHICKENFOOT will release "Divine Termination", its first new tune in five years on "Best + Live", the band's first-ever best-of collection, on March 10. CHICKENFOOT features legendary guitarist Joe Satriani, former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar, ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith.

You can now listen to "Divine Termination" using the SoundCloud widget below.

In addition to "Divine Termination", "Best + Live" includes over 90 minutes of live music "Best + Live" for the first time released on CD. Hagar says: "Listening to this collection of songs from the 'FOOT brings back memories of some of the most fun I've ever had in a band. The chemistry between Chad, Joe, Mike and me is very special. It's almost like visual music — you can see us having fun when you listen to these songs."

In May 2016, CHICKENFOOT reunited for two highly-anticipated one-time shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, and played their first complete set in more than six years, along with a special unveiling of the new tune "Divine Termination". Satriani describes the track as "bone-crunching, hell-raising rock, dripping with attitude and vibe. Just the way CHICKENFOOT likes it!"

Both the extra CD "Live" and the bonus tracks on the best of feature a 13-song strong setlist, including almost every song from CHICKENFOOT's debut album as well as Hagar's old MONTROSE classic "Bad Motor Scooter", THE WHO's "My Generation" and Satriani's interpretation of "The Star-Spangled Banner" — all recorded live in Phoenix 2009 and available for the first time on CD (previously only available as video on the DVD/Blu-ray "Get Your Buzz On").

"Best + Live" track listing:

CD1 – Best Of

01. Divine Termination (brand new song)
02. Soap On A Rope
03. Sexy Little Thing
04. Oh Yeah
05. Get It Up
06. Future In The Past
07. Big Foot
08. Different Devil
09. Lighten Up
10. Dubai Blues
11. Something Going Wrong

Bonus Live Tracks:

12. Highway Star
13. Bad Motor Scooter
14. My Generation

CD2 - Live

01. Avenida Revolution
02. Sexy Little Thing
03. Soap On A Rope
04. My Kinda Girl
05. Down The Drain
06. Bitten By The Wolf
07. Oh Yeah
08. Learning To Fall
09. Get It Up
10. Turnin' Left
11. Future In The Past

CHICKENFOOT has not made a new CD in five years but returned to the studio to record "Divine Termination".

"I wrote the lyrics while on an airplane to Cabo," Hagar told Rolling Stone about the song. "It's a dark tune, but it's fucking cool. It's a really raw production and a giant step for the 'FOOT."

Satriani told The Oakland Press that he is not holding his breath for a new album from CHICKENFOOT. "It'll always be upsetting to me, the fact [the band] is under-realized," Satriani said. "That befuddles me still. However, the other guys do have plenty of things to do, and I suppose maybe I get it. But when I think about it from an artistic point of view, it just seems ridiculous that we didn't do more. It just seems completely wrong."

:guitare:
