Canadian production company Banger Films ("Metal: A Headbangers Journey", "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage") will release the "Metal Evolution: Albums - Slaughter Of The Soul" documentary on December 25 via BangerTV.com.

"Metal Evolution: Albums" is a sequel to Banger's successful 12-part TV series "Metal Evolution".

Says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn: "I'm continuing my journey into the history of metal music by delving into the most influential metal albums ever made. Not just the usual metal classics fans already know all about, but the albums that redefined the metal underground and captivated die-hard metal fans around the world.

"Released in 1995, AT THE GATES' 'Slaughter Of The Soul' was one of those records. Its potent mix of Tomas Lindberg's screaming vocals, Björler/Larsson's melodic twin guitars, and Studio Fredman's soon-to-be-legendary death metal production changed the course of extreme metal forever and became an instant must-have in the metal underground. The record absolutely blew my mind and, 20 years after its release, remains one of my all-time faves.

"But what's the story behind 'Slaughter Of The Soul'?

"Last year, I travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden to meet with the band before a sold-out hometown gig. We talked about the making of 'Slaughter Of The Soul', the highs and lows of their early years, their break-up, reunion, and current music. We also filmed a killer live show showcasing several songs from the album. The result is 'Metal Evolution: Albums - Slaughter Of The Soul', a 30-minute documentary featuring exclusive interviews with the band, producer Fredrik Nordström and members of SHADOWS FALL and IN FLAMES, and live performance footage from the Gothenburg show.

Having completed an extremely comprehensive worldwide touring campaign in support of their comeback album, "At War With Reality", Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have announced the departure of their co-founding guitarist Anders Björler.

Says the band in a statement: So, it is now official that Anders Björler is no longer a part of AT THE GATES. He will always be part of the AT THE GATES family, of course, but he will no longer write, record or play with us live.

"This is something that we, the rest of the band, have felt was on its way for quite some time, as that special spark was no longer with him the last year. We are grateful for all we have experienced together with him, all the records, all the songs, all the gigs, all the laughs and good times.

"The rest of us have, in the meantime, started the work on the follow-up to 'At War With Reality'. We already have three songs written, and the direction is set for an intense, hungry follow-up album.

"Jonas [Björler, bass] has always written a considerable part of the band's material and we are fully confident that the new material will live up to the standards set by our previous records. It is ripping.

"The four of us still have the burning urge to create death metal together, and we love playing live in front of our fans, so we will go on, with an even stronger intent.

"While writing the new record that we intend to record in the beginning of 2018, we are trying out Anders's replacement. Some auditions are being held as we speak, and we will get back to you with news on the matter as soon as we know more."

Anders Björler added: "Just a quick note to let everybody know that I am leaving AT THE GATES permanently. The passion is just gone. There might be a more lengthy statement in the future, but at the moment I feel no need to explain further.

"This is a personal decision, and it has 100% to do with the music side of things.

"The reunion in 2008, and the subsequent tours, as well as the comeback album, 'At War With Reality', really helped revisiting our friendship, and it brought us together in a way I will always remember and cherish.

"I would also like to thank all the people that supported us throughout the reunion shows as well as the 'At War With Reality' album. Thanks a lot!"

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have announced the addition of guitarist Jonas Stålhammar to the group's ranks. He joins the band as the replacement for co-founding guitarist Anders Björler, who left AT THE GATES in March.

Says AT THE GATES: "We have finally decided on a new guitar player, and we are ready to rip again! Actually, he was our first choice, and we are happy to have him on board.

"Jonas Stålhammar has been a friend since the late eighties (Tomas [Lindberg, vocals] used to tape trade with him back then!), and our paths have crossed many times during our careers.

"We were looking for someone who had the same reference points as we do, someone from the same path, so to say, who understand the greatness of both AUTOPSY and KING CRIMSON. Of course, it was essential that our new member could fill the shoes of Anders performance-wise as well, but that was never an issue with Jonas. We were looking for someone with a deep understanding of what AT THE GATES are about, someone who could contribute creatively to the band.

"Jonas Stålhammar will be a full member from day one, and will play on the upcoming full length album, scheduled for recording in November 2017 - January 2018.

"We currently have eleven songs ready for said album, and are more inspired than perhaps ever before.

"You can expect a full-on AT THE GATES record with all the classic elements of the band. It is by far the most comprehensive album of the band to date, and will span all the way across the different elements of the band's sound.

"We are super-excited for 2018. It will be a good year for AT THE GATES, and our fans, for sure."

Stålhammar is currently a member of THE LURKING FEAR, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, BOMBS OF HADES and GOD MACABRE. He previously played in ABHOTH, UTUMNO and MACABRE END.

Lindberg recently told Metal Wani about the writing process for the next AT THE GATES album: "We are all very eager to get this done. The one that has stepped up so far is, of course, Jonas [Björler, bass], who wrote about forty percent of both [2014's comeback album] 'At War With Reality' and [1995's] 'Slaughter Of The Soul', so he stepped in as the main songwriter now, and the stuff that he's put on the table so far is amazing, basically. It really captures exactly the essence of what AT THE GATES is. I mean, 'At War With Reality' was a good album for us, a strong album, but I think this one is more focused on just being us."

Regarding the musical direction of the new AT THE GATES material, Tomas said: "There's been a lot of discussions, and, as I said, a very creative, inspired atmosphere right now. I would say that we are, again, in a sense, as with 'At War With Reality', trying to really grasp what AT THE GATES is. Maybe a little bit more again even further back to the roots a little bit to see what aspects of AT THE GATES we could put in the AT THE GATES of today and make it a whole record, so to say, to present as we are now. But I think there will be some surprises for people in a very good way. So far it's a very coherent, very strong album, [with] very strong songs."
