Redemption, signed to InsideOut Music, is one of the leading progressive metal bands in the world today. Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000 by guitarist / keyboardist / songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features legendary progressive metal vocalist Ray Alder of Fates Warning, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel), the phenomenal rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and Sean Andrews (bass) and the keyboard talents of Greg Hosharian.

Guitarist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk of the Los Angeles-based progressive metal band REDEMPTION has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which he describes as "a particularly bad form of blood cancer which is generally considered incurable and which has a five-year survival rate of 34%."

REDEMPTION guitarist / founder Nick van Dyk has issued the following message to the fans following reports that he is battling cancer:

"Hello friends. Thank you very much for all the expressions of concern and well-wishes. It has been a rough year behind me, but I believe I am on the mend. I went for the most aggressive treatment possible with the hopes of killing the disease, and right now there is no trace of the disease left in me. I remain on three kinds of medicine for the next three years, and I will be glad when I don't need to take it -- but in the meantime the hope is it will keep my body toxic enough to kill off any remaining cancer cells. As of now, while it's certainly not a guarantee, there is a pretty good chance that I have been cured, so long as I can tolerate this ongoing treatment.

Thanks again very much for your concern -- I hope to see many of you soon as we play out in support of Snowfall on Judgment Day."

REDEMPTION, the US progressive metal band featuring in its ranks guitarist/songwriter Nick van Dyk and legendary FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder, have announced that their newest, 5th studio album release and follow-up to the Snowfall On Judgment Day album in 2009, will be entitled This Mortal Coil, and is to be released on September 26th in Europe and October 11th in North America via InsideOutMusic.

Redemption recorded and mixed This Mortal Coil with legendary producer Neil Kernon (QUEENSRŸCHE, NEVERMORE, KANSAS, etc.). The album's artwork, which can be seen below, was created by acclaimed artist and longtime band collaborator Travis Smith (OPETH, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, Nevermore, etc.).

Redemption’s Nick van Dyk checked in commenting on the album as follows: “I'm extremely pleased to announce that work on This Mortal Coil has been completed. It was a pleasure to work with Neil Kernon during the production, although I dare say we had more challenges and curve-balls in this process than either of us is accustomed to. Nonetheless we overcame everything in our path, from internet failures to lightning strikes, and since one of the themes of this CD is essentially overcoming adversity, the production process served as a bit of a metaphor for the whole concept!"

"The new CD continues our creative effort to combine heaviness with melody - fusing those disparate elements has always been part of Redemption's sound, along with an element that I have called emotional urgency, which we've maintained here. All in all, it sounds like Redemption - although importantly I think it's by far our best-sounding record, owing to the work of Neil Kernon and the mastering of Alan Douches."

And Van Dyk adds regarding the artwork: "We have worked once again with the incredibly talented Travis Smith on our art; we work very well together and he has a proven knack for bringing my concepts to life visually."

While fans of the progressive metallers Redemption are probably eager to get some news on the follow-up to This Mortal Coil, the Los Angeles band just announced a new live release. Laser's Edge division, Sensory Records, will release Live From The Pit on September 16th, 2014. See the tracklist and the cover below.

In 2012, Redemption co-headlined the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta, where the band recorded a unique show featuring nearly eighty minutes of material and staged with complementary visuals. That performance is now being constructed for official worldwide release as Live From The Pit to be delivered in a CD/DVD package including additional bonus material, including a 5.1 surround mix and more.
