Girlschool – 18:00h (press conference and pre listening)
The first day in the 2008 W:O:A press tent is dominated by girl power. At 18:00h Girlschool and Lauren Harris will kick off with a common press conference and pre listening session. In the year of their 30th anniversary Girlschool, the longest running female rock band in the world, is honoured to open the 19th Wacken Open Air. They will present songs of their new album, which will be released this September.

Lauren Harris – 18:00h (press conference and pre listening)
Girlschool's appearance is accompanied by Lauren Harris, whose musical career began in 2005 when she was discovered by legendary songwriter and producer Russ Ballard. Fascinated by her talent, he was unaware of the fact that Lauren is the daughter of Iron Maiden's bass player Steve Harris. Her debut album "Calm Before the Storm" was released on June, 20th with Demolition Records. It was produced by Tommy McWilliams (Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, Lindsey Lohan). Like all performing artists in the W:O:A press tent Lauren Harris is also available for face to face interviews if requested.

Evocation – 15:00h (pre listening)
Evocation stands for raw, pure and brutal Death Metal from Sweden. After celebrating the band's comeback in 2004, the five Scandinavians will present new studio material from the follow-up of "Tales From the Tomb" (2007, Cyclone Empire) in Wacken.

Cynic – 16:00h (Showcase)
Hardly any other band in the world has managed to develop a similar reputation with just one single album, Focus (1993), like Cynic. Founded by Paul Masvidal (guitar) and Sean Reinert (drums) in 1987, the band split up in 1994 during recordings for the second album. After a successful reunion tour last summer the long awaited second album "Traced in Air" (Season of Mist) will finally be released this year.

Holy Moses – 17:00h (press conference and pre listening)
Holy Moses, trailblazers of thrash metal in Germany, will present their new album "Agony of Death" (release date: 26 September). The follow-up to "Strength, Power, Will, Passion" (2005) is already their 12th studio album since the formation of the group in 1980 and its reunion in 2000. On top of the pre listening session and the press conference there is the possibility to do face to face interviews with Holy Moses on Friday and Saturday.

Enslaved – 18:00h (pre listening)
Enslaved from Norway are recognized as one of the main creators of the Viking Metal genre. Recently signing a record deal with Indie Records the five vikings present their new album "Vertebrae", which will be in stores in September. Enslaved describe their 10th album as their most extreme and most powerful since their existence (1991). Between 18:25 and 18:45h a question and answer session is scheduled with the band members.

Not many bands have had the honour to be covered by Metallica. The track is called "Killing Time" from the same titled debut album from 1996. The entire history of the Irish band goes back a lot further. Their first single already came out in 1981 After several reshuffles Sweet Savage is currently playing European festivals with the lineup of Ian Wilson (guitar), Trev Fleming (guitar), David Bates (drums) und Ray Haller (bass, vocals). After Wacken and the showcase with Girlschool Sweet Savage will play a show with Metallica in Dublin on August, 20th.

Uli Jon Roth – 20:30h (press conference)
Welcome back in Wacken! Uli Jon Roth, guitar legend and former member of the Scorpions, already appeared in Wacken as the Scorps' special guest in 2006. This year he came to present his new album "Under a Dark Sky", which will arrive in stores late August. After his performance at the W:O:A 2008 he will support the Scorpions in autumn at shows in England, Scotland and France. The idol of Kirk Hammet (Metallica) and Slash (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver) also confirmed a US tour scheduled for September/October.

Pharao – 13:00h (showcase / presse breakfast)
Traditionally, Heavy Metal legends Pharao from East Berlin will perform live in the W:O:A press tent and present their new album "Road to Nowhere", the first Pharao record since 1999. In addition a brand new video clip "Why Not!" will be screened that was produced for the band by Roax Films. In the 1980s, the band became the most successful Metal band in the former GDR but was soon indexed because of their English lyrics. That is why they released their first album after the reunification in the West. It was called "Bad Boys From the East" (1990). Only one year later they played their farewell tour. At W:O:A 2006 they gave their live comeback gig and released their first three songs after 15 years.

Peter Tägtgren from Sweden has many talents. He is a metal musician, composer and producer in one person. Parallel to his job as front man of the Death Metal band Hypocrisy Tägtgren has worked in several side projects such as Bloodbath, Lock Up, The Abyss, War and Pain. During the recordings for the last Pain album he suffered a heart attack and was clinically dead for almost two minutes. After a quick recovery the album got the suitable name "Dancing with the Death" (2005). In 2008, the 38 year old from Stockholm toured through Europe with Pain and played in front of a total audience of 150.000 fans in 18 different countries.

Metal of the extraordinary kind will be performed by German a capella metal band Van Canto. The sextet consists of four male and one female singer, one drummer, no keyboarder, no guitar and no bass player. Nevertheless, every musical facet of melodic Metal is included in their music. All instruments are sung by Van Canto! The performance will include own and cover songs of the debut album "A Storm to Come" (Gun Records).

Loud, dirty and positively aggressive Highspeed Rock N Roll from Berlin. That's Havanna Heat Club who named themselves after a super 8 porn movie from the 1970s. The capitals will present their new album "Specially Made For Your Satisfaction", the follow-up to their 2005 debut. The band describes their goals for the year 2008 like this: new songs, new record, new power, old direction. Upfront! Tourdates with Rose Tattoo … as well as the showcase at W:O:A 2008 of course!

Announcement Winner W:O:A Metal Battle – 18:00h
In its fifth year the official W:O:A Metal Battle has spread all over the globe. Winners of the national competitions are coming from a total of 16 different countries from Europe, as well as from Israel, Brazil and China. All qualified bands have the chance to perform live on the W:E:T Stage and present themselves to an international Metal audience. The winner is announced by an international jury and receives the main prize, a record deal with Wacken Records.

Non mais ça ne l'empêche pas d'être là pour sa promo. Il joue régulièrement à Wacken, donc il connait bien les organisateurs. Et puis c'est assez fréquent que des artistes qui ne soient pas à l'affiche viennent donner des conférences de presse et séances de dédicaces à des gros festivals.

Sinon départ mardi soir avec Powersylv, sa copine et David d'Orléans. Retrouvaille avec les dijonnais sur la route je crois (dont eklipse) et arrivée à Wacken le mercredi en fin de journée vu qu'on va être encore pris dans les mega bouchons je suis sûr

Voilà le running order du Wacken, y a une scène "movienight" où seront diffusés entre autre le film Global Metal (la suite de voyage au coeur de la bête) et un live à Rio de Rob Halford et un truc qui ressemble à un court métrage en présence de Biff de Saxon 
Sinon MAMBO KURT, les pompiers et un groupe de karaoke live (?) vont jouer quasiment tous les jours En gras ce que je risque d'aller voir (finalement l'affiche est bien moins pourrie que ce à quoi je m'attendais! Y a plein de trucs sympas à voir!)

Bon, j'ai fait mon running order. Il y a moins de fluo que les autres années, mais c'est pas plus mal : ça va permettre de moins se speeder et de plus apprécier les groupes.
Je conseille à tout le monde The Bones, à 2h20 samedi soir. De l'excellent rock'n'roll, entre les Ramones et Motörhead. Une bonne mise en gosier avant l'ultime ballroom.

Un de mes moins bons Wacken pour pas mal de raisons à developper plus tard. C'est devenu une tres grosse machine le Wacken. Orga impeccable, mais tellement de monde que maintenant on regarde les groupes sur ecrans geants...

je n'ai jamais fait wacken et c est pour cette raison!! Si c est pour être a 100 metres de la scene et mettre une demi heure pour se deplacer 10 metres dans le fest non merci

We´d like to thank you for your unbelievable support, because without you we wouldn´t be what we are:
The biggest Heavy Metal Festival in the world!

Our considerable building measures such as the renewal and fixation of the bus stop, security on the festival site, removal of the small walkway to the Party Stage, more entrances, larger beer garden, new stage in the beer garden, bigger Party Stage, viewing stands for the disabled, more supermarkets and food stores on the camping ground, 3 extra video walls, improved signposting, more delay towers, a centred FOH tower for a better view to the stages and much more - all of which were succesful.
Furthermore we’d like to reassure our fans about the scare that Wacken is becoming bigger….it isn’t, since otherwise it wouldn’t have already been sold out in March!
In 2007 we had 72.500 guests and in 2008 we had 75.000 guests, which includes artists, helpers from all departements, media, the so-called VIPs, villagers (who have free entrance), rescue and security personnel etc. and the paying fans!
The only chink from our point of view was the situation at entrance point 1. All the fans poured into entrance 1 without realising that entrances 2 + 3 and that of the Party Stage were completely free. That is why there was such long waiting times and in the end led to the closure of entrance 1, so that the other entrances were used. Unfortunately this only ran smoothly from Friday on since we were then able to communicate via the loud speakers. Next year a traffic light system will be installed – since we do have the space – although it will still be cramped when everyone is trying to get to straight way to the stage!
!!!!!!! Please notice: We ask for your constructive criticism, ideas for improvement and helpful suggestions in our forum. We will then evaluate and publicise them and include them in our future planning. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

je ne connaissais pas donc je n'avais pas prévu A LA BASE d'y aller mais en fait j'y suis allé et j'ai trouvé ça bien sympaGaëtan a écrit :@ Le G@Y : tu vas pas voir Massacre ?
Je ferai un petit CR plus tard mais contre toute attente, j'ai trouvé ce Wacken très cool!
Certes, il n'y avait pas quantité de grosses têtes d'affiche et il y a eu une journée un peu moyenne et ennuyeuse le vendredi mais le jeudi et surtout le samedi étaient riches en bons moments Pour ce qui est du monde c'est clair que c'est devenu à un tel point qu'il y a plein de gens dès le début de l'après-midi des entrées jusqu'aux grandes scènes et que les 3 (!) écrans géants à l'intérieur du site ne sont pas du luxe (je ne compte pas les écrans géants en dehors du site qui diffusaient en direct les concerts qui se passaient sur les grandes scènes, je ne vois pas trop l'intérêt de regarder des concerts sur ces écrans, autant rester chez soi et attendre la sortie du DVD). M'enfin, à part pour MAIDEN où c'était vraiment blindé de chez blindé, en faisant un minimum d'effort on arrivait très bien à circuler entre les gens qui n'étaient pas non plus entassés et il était tout à fait possible de se planter pas trop loin des scènes! Je sais de quoi je parle : j'étais sur le site de 11h à 3h du mat, j'ai beaucoup circulé et je n'ai jamais rencontré de gros problème. En plus j'ai trouvé qu'il y avait pratiquement tout le temps une bonne ambiance devant les groupes, plus que jamais ce festival ne se passe pas backstage mais front of the stage
A noter également qu'ils ont enlevé l'espèce de rempart débile pour accéder à la party stage donc c'était bieeeeen plus facile d'y accéder, par contre le sol de la wet stage était très boueux, limite plus que dehors (le comble) et c'était pas très agréable du coup (le mercredi, impossible d'accéder à la wet stage, les gens s'entassaient devant l'entrée), faudrait vraiment qu'ils foutent un revêtement en bois par terre comme au Graspop et plusieurs moyens d'accéder à cette tente.Sinon niveau concerts, en tuerie absolue : 3 INCHES OF BLOOD! Un des rares groupes en activité que je n'avais jamais vu et que j'avais très envie de voir et bien je n'ai pas été déçu
Et les gens que j'ai tanné avec Hallowedhail au sujet de ce groupe et qui sont venus voir par curiosité n'ont pas été déçus du voyage non plus il me semble en autre grosses boucheries : KREATOR, EXODUS (quelle intensité putain! et quel chanteur flippant
) et HOLY MOSES, vive le thrash quoi!en très bons concerts : IRON MAIDEN bien-sûr même si c'était vraiment trop blindé de monde, GIRLSCHOOL, NASHVILLE PUSSY, AIRBOURNE, ALESTORM, PRIMORDIAL, MORTAL SIN, MASSACRE, THE HAUNTED, CARCASS, LORDI (même si ça manque de folie comme y a quelques années et que le public était mort après 3 jours de fest et surtout après une prestation énorme de KREATOR)
en trucs à la cool à revoir : CREMATORY, SWEET SAVAGE, UNEARTH, HEADHUNTER, NIFELHEIM, GIRUGAMESH
en concerts pas mauvais mais sans plus à mon goût : OBITUARY
j'ai vu d'autres trucs mais qui m'ont moins plus : AVANTASIA j'ai trouvé ça gentil avec des refrains sympas m'enfin c'est une tête d'affiche du pauvre, NIGHTWISH c'est gniangnian à souhait, du Chantal Goya pour gothiques même si ça se laisse écouter (par contre certains vieux morceaux passent vraiment pas avec le style de la nouvelle chanteuse mais d'autres sont corrects), SOILWORK ont eu un son pourri, KAMELOT le chanteur est insupportable et s'essouffle en 2 secondes, pour CHILDREN OF BODOM, Laiho devient définitivement lui aussi insupportable à jouer l'américain avec ses fucking fuck de partout, en plus il est visiblement complètement camé car il est tout tremblant (vive les gros plans des écrans géants!) et en plus il se fout de la gueule de ses musicos (genre quand il présente le gratteux qui fait un petit solo pour l'occase il lui lance bien cynique : "allons, tu peux jouer plus vite que ça!") mais il sait encore jouer les vieux morceaux donc tout n'était pas complètement à jeter, AUTUMN c'est du sous AFTER FOREVER sans originalité même si ça reste correct, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE trop metalcore à mon goût, je m'attendais à bien mieux.
Voila donc pour moi, je ne regrette pas d'être venu

Mon premier remonte à 1997 avec Rage et l'orchstre ainsi que Motorhead en tete d'affiche.
A l'époque ca durait à peine un jour et demi .... et ca correspondait à l'équivalent du Bang Your head d'il y a encore peu de temps...
Et puis Wacken plus ca allait et plus ca devenait pour moi prétexte à la connerie plus qu'à la musique finalement.
Et puis, ca a fini par devenir ni l'un ni l'autre ...
Le dernier je me suis éclaté le premier jour ...et fait chier les 2 jours suivants. C'était celui de trop.
Et puis voir "Extreme music for extreme people toutes les 3 secondes" pendant 4 jours je pete un cable
Maintenant les festivals je les choisis courts mais avec une affiche qui me plait au moins à 50 %, là on est loin du compte.
Mais bon dans tous les cas , Wacken ca restera plein d'excellents souvenirs, plein de délires, plein de découvertes etc ...

Moi ce n'était que mon 6e Wacken et je sais que je reviendrai l'année prochaine.
D'abord ça reste une ambiance que je ne retrouve pas vraiment dans les autres festivals. On ne sait pas pourquoi mais la plupart des gens se mettent dans un état d'esprit Wacken, un état d'esprit ambiant particulier que je ne trouve nulle part ailleurs. On voit pas trop de gens gueuler "graspoooooooooop" ou "hellfeeeeeeeeeest" par exemple, y a vraiment un culte autour de ce festival et les gens semblent vouloir faire perdurer ça, on oblige personne à acheter le merchandising Wacken et pourtant ça marche très bien!
Ensuite pour les découvertes, si on est encore interressé pour en faire, c'est le top vu que y a 3 groupes qui peuvent jouer en même temps donc il y a toujours quelque chose à voir si on est motivé.
On peut aussi vivre le festival en faisant des conneries sur le camping et aller voir que les 2-3 groupes qui nous intéresse mais je n'en vois personnellement absolument pas l'intérêt. J'ai beaucoup plus de plaisir à passer ma journée entière sur le site et partager d'excellents moments de concerts avec toujours des noyaux de fans motivés un peu partout (contrairement au Graspop où j'ai trouvé l'ambiance morne et où il fallait limite se coller à la barrière pour se retrouver avec des fans), quand il y a un groupe dont je suis moins fan j'aime m'assoir et regarder les gens s'éclater sur le groupe en question. J'aime aussi regarder les gens qui font des conneries, se déguisent, etc... pas besoin d'être à l'extérieur du site pour rigoler. Et puis donc j'aime faire de bonnes découvertes et à chaque Wacken il y en a à faire. Mais c'est sympa de passer aussi du temps sur le camping à boire des coups et se faire des barbecues avec des potes mais encore une fois je m'amuse beaucoup plus sur le site.
Et puis c'est bien organisé mais la plupart des festivals européens font des efforts et d'ailleurs je me demande si le Wacken n'est pas une impulsion pour les organisateurs des autres festivals pour aller dans ce sens.
Bref, j'aime encore Wacken et je suis bien content du succès de ce festival! Il faudrait peut-être juste agrandir le site et trouver des solutions de désengorgement mais sinon ça fait plaisir de voir tout ce monde!

On voit pas trop de gens gueuler "graspoooooooooop" ou "hellfeeeeeeeeeest" par exemple, y a vraiment un culte autour de ce festival et les gens semblent vouloir faire perdurer ça, on oblige personne à acheter le merchandising Wacken et pourtant ça marche très bien!
Ensuite pour les découvertes, si on est encore interressé pour en faire, c'est le top vu que y a 3 groupes qui peuvent jouer en même temps donc il y a toujours quelque chose à voir si on est motivé.
On peut aussi vivre le festival en faisant des conneries sur le camping et aller voir que les 2-3 groupes qui nous intéresse mais je n'en vois personnellement absolument pas l'intérêt. J'ai beaucoup plus de plaisir à passer ma journée entière sur le site et partager d'excellents moments de concerts avec toujours des noyaux de fans motivés un peu partout (contrairement au Graspop où j'ai trouvé l'ambiance morne et où il fallait limite se coller à la barrière pour se retrouver avec des fans), quand il y a un groupe dont je suis moins fan j'aime m'assoir et regarder les gens s'éclater sur le groupe en question. J'aime aussi regarder les gens qui font des conneries, se déguisent, etc... pas besoin d'être à l'extérieur du site pour rigoler. Et puis donc j'aime faire de bonnes découvertes et à chaque Wacken il y en a à faire. Mais c'est sympa de passer aussi du temps sur le camping à boire des coups et se faire des barbecues avec des potes mais encore une fois je m'amuse beaucoup plus sur le site.
Et puis c'est bien organisé mais la plupart des festivals européens font des efforts et d'ailleurs je me demande si le Wacken n'est pas une impulsion pour les organisateurs des autres festivals pour aller dans ce sens.
Bref, j'aime encore Wacken et je suis bien content du succès de ce festival! Il faudrait peut-être juste agrandir le site et trouver des solutions de désengorgement mais sinon ça fait plaisir de voir tout ce monde!
