Asked by U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine if he has seen the "extreme reaction" the new version of "Stormbringer" received after it was posted on YouTube, Coverdale responded: "Yeah, of course. But have you seen the orders we have for this record? I've never made music for the haters. If somebody develops a cure for cancer, there will still be haters. I've no space in my life for haters or negaters. They're not gonna buy my record. They won't buy a ticket. Why the fuck should I give a fuck? They're probably sitting at home, running their WiFi off their mother's account. I owe those people nothing. Such opinions mean nothing to me. I'm talking to you from a fucking very, very beautiful residential studio. I have a home overlooking Lake Tahoe. I'm sixty-three years old, booking a world tour, the tickets are flying out the door… The odds are not in these people's favor. They are wasting their hate."
He continued: "I won't release something unless I believe in it. I've come to a time in my life, after a very successful career, where I will do exactly what I like. Online the other day some clown wrote: 'Coverdale's well must have run dry.' Well, what you have done in your life? Over forty years I've sold more than a hundred million records and written countless fucking rock 'n' roll anthems. How fucking dare you criticize me, dude? Fuck off to your bedroom."
Asked if he feels the classic DEEP PURPLE songs are untouchable in their original form, Coverdale said: "When WHITESNAKE played 'Burn' for the first time, in 2004, the web site lit up. And, amazingly, ninety percent of those people hadn't heard the song before. And it's forty fucking years old, but, as daft as it sounds, these songs are new to some people. I'm getting tweets from people saying they've bought the original songs for the first time after seeing the album's track listing. So PURPLE's making money too."

In a brand new interview with Metal Express Radio, legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) was asked about what it was like to join his ex-DEEP PURPLE bandmate David Coverdale on stage in California this past June to perform a couple of DEEP PURPLE classics (see video below). He responded: "It was a Wednesday at Newport Beach, I was having my hair done and I knew WHITESNAKE were playing Beverly Hills that night and knew there was a possibility I could make that show. So I was getting my hair done and I called [David] up to let him know I was coming. I get there 20 minutes before he goes on stage and I was walking towards him to give him a hug and he gives me the microphone. Basically, he asked me if I wanted to do it and I said that this is what I do. We didn't talk about it before we met up. What you can see on YouTube is evident that it wasn't rehearsed. It was very tribal and spontaneous."
He continued: "There's never been any hidden agenda between David and I. There was never a moment in DEEP PURPLE where I had to tell a lie. There's always been difficulties between members of bands, but David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes were always very close. In fact, even more so today than ever before. You can see on that YouTube footage how close we are."
Hughes also talked about attempts in recent years to reunite some of the members of the DEEP PURPLE Mark III lineup. He explained: "About six years ago, David and I, along with [late DEEP PURPLE keyboardist] Jon Lord, were talking about doing something together as DEEP PURPLE Mark III. We were talking about who was going to call Ritchie [Blackmore, ex-DEEP PURPLE guitarist]. Jon said he'd call Ritchie, but he couldn't get through to him. Then Jon got sick and died, so it didn't happen. After Jon died, me, David and Ritchie did try to get something together but it never materialized. I can't say why it didn't, but it just didn't happen. I can say to you now that I don't think it'll ever materialize. David is so busy and I am so busy that I can't lend my face to something that is not real. Yes, it would be great if Mark III could get together but we've missed that opportunity now. I said my goodbyes to Jon Lord at the Albert Hall last year and that is it. I'm still friends with Ian Paice and everybody's good, but I can't live in that past. It is something that has gone. I only want to wish Ritchie the very best in what he does and long may the legacy of DEEP PURPLE live on."
Après l'album (de reprises), le live et DVD bien sûr
Mais avec "seulement" 13 titres, dont une partie de Purple donc, et les gros classiques de Whitesnake.
WHITESNAKE revisited the music that singer David Coverdale recorded with DEEP PURPLE with the release of "The Purple Album" two years ago. The LP, and the tour that followed, offered fans new modern interpretations of PURPLE classics like "Burn" and "Mistreated". Highlights from the historic tour will be featured in a new live collection, including double-disc versions that feature audio, video and a selection of bonus material.
"The Purple Tour (Live)" will be available on January 19 as CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray sets. Additional formats include a double-LP, single CD, and digital version. A video trailer can be found below.
On "The Purple Tour (Live)", WHITESNAKE puts its distinctive spin on several songs from Coverdale's studio albums with DEEP PURPLE: "Burn" (1974), "Stormbringer" (1974) and "Come Taste The Band" (1975). Highlights include "You Fool No One", "The Gypsy" and "Soldier Of Fortune". The double-disc collection also includes video footage of the concert mixed to 5.1 Surround Sound, plus a new music video for "Burn", band interviews, and a number of bonus performances not available on the CD or vinyl versions.
The WHITESNAKE lineup that appears on "The Purple Tour (Live)" includes Coverdale, guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra, bassist Michael Devin, drummer Tommy Aldridge and keyboardist Michele Luppi.
Coverdale says there was never any intention to compete against the original recordings. "We just wanted to play the damn songs," he says. "Each member of the band brought their incredible individual talents and a real band identity to this music. We've all done the best we can with this project with respect to the music, and the legacy of DEEP PURPLE Mk3 and Mk4."
In addition to songs originally recorded by DEEP PURPLE, "The Purple Tour (Live)" features performances of killer WHITESNAKE tracks like "Fool For Your Loving" from "Slip Of The Tongue" (1990), "Love Ain't No Stranger" from "Slide It In" (1984), plus "Still Of The Night", "Bad Boys", "Is This Love" and the #1 smash "Here I Go Again" from "Whitesnake" (1987).
