Je ne sais pas mais toutes les hypothèses sont possibles, Defeis entretenant volontairement l'ambiguïté, un peu comme pour Exorcist.
Voici maintenant une interview de Girlschool où Enid Williams raconte qu'elles ont découvert les Runaways en 1975 alors qu'elles pensaient être les seules dans le genre! Elle dit que les Runaways était un groupe (talentueux) assemblé par un manager, à la différence de Girlschool...
Greece's Rockpages caught up with GIRLSCHOOL in the backstage area before their recent show at Hard Rock Hell III. The following is an excerpt from the interview:
Q: The same time you started the band there was another band in America, THE RUNAWAYS. Can you remember the differences between the two bands?
Enid Williams: "The Runaways had a hit with 'Cherry Bomb' in 1975. I think in the summer of ’75. Kim (McAuliffe) and I started this band in February 1975 and everyone loved us. And a few months later – suddenly – we see The Runaways and it’s like 'Oh, my god, we’re not the only girl band in the worl'd”... First of all, 'Cherry Bomb' is a poppy sort of song. And there was a very fundamental difference... The Runaways were started by Kim Fowley, who was like a music business manager and he found some female musicians, put them together in a band... The cover of the album had these five little boxes and it had different parts of their bodies... It was like pieces of meat. We hated it! We thought the song was quite good but we just hated the whole image... Girlschool started cuz we saw our brothers and cousins doing that and our moms back at home doing the washing and we thought 'We want that! We want to travel, we want to play music'! And women didn’t do that in the 70’s and it was a very different thing... It took us a lot of time to build our way up. The Runaways were actually quite talented. Joan Jett is fantastic, Lita Ford is a wonderful guitarist..."
