Anneke van Giersbergen, singer for world-renowned Dutch rock act THE GATHERING, has decided to leave the band and pursue new goals in life and music.

In a statement from van Giersbergen, she says: "Dear people, I wanted to send out this message to all of you to inform you that I have decided to leave THE GATHERING.

"After much consideration and some serious soul searching, I feel that it is time for me to change my direction in life and develop and search out new goals.

"In all the wonderful years that I have been a part of THE GATHERING, we, as a band, have always strongly believed in sincerity, both personally and within our music. I have always been able to give one hundred percent of myself to the band and its music. Over the last year I developed an urge to initiate my activities from a different place in my heart, focusing on myself and my family.

"In order to stay true to myself, the band, crew and the fans, I see no other option than to leave the band and pursue my new goals in life and music.

"I loved my 13 years with THE GATHERING and I take pride in all the beautiful music we have made together and will always cherish the good times we shared on the road and in the studio. The decision to leave all of this behind has been incredibly difficult, but since it's made from the heart, I strongly believe that I have to go with it. Although it saddens me to say goodbye, I have made a lot of exciting plans for the future both personally and professionally.

"Thank you for all the love and support and I hope we will meet again in life and music."

The band has posted a statement on its web site regarding the singer's departure. It reads as follows:

"We are very sorry to announce the fact that Anneke has decided to leave the band [effective] August 2007. Anneke has several reasons not to be a member anymore. We really regret the fact we could not find a way to continue together. However, we (THE GATHERING) will be working on new material with male and female vocalists. Expect a CD release somewhere in 2008.

"With Anneke we've made great albums and did fantastic shows, which we are very proud of! We had a great time! We wish Anneke all the best for the future.

"The remaining festivals we will play together with Anneke. No new gigs will be scheduled. The last gig with Anneke will be the Ankkarock Festival in Finland, the 4th of August. Also the new DVD, 'A Noise Severe', as well as the double live CD will still be released this summer."

THE GATHERING released its latest album, "Home", in April 2006 on The End Records.

si c'était galère pour Nightwish pour remplacer leur chanteuse là c'est carrément impossible...

Sa démarche me semble sincère...Mais c'est quand même dur à entendre.

Pour une femme, la vie de famille, c'est important, je trouve qu'elle s'est impliquée vraiment à fond dans ce groupe: 13 ans, c'est quand même pas rien.

De toute manière, rien de plus sincère de la part d'un artiste de se retirer de la scène pour profiter de soi. Y a rien de mercantile dans cette démarche, bien au contraire.

Je suis dégouté!

De tous les départs de groupe survenus récemment , c'est celui qui m'attriste le plus... Je suis content néanmoins qu'elle finisse sa carrière The gathering avec "Home". De plus, leurs trois derniers concerts/festivals que j'ai pu voir d'eux en 2006 m'avaient bien emballé , j'en garde donc une image positive, mais bon ce n'est qu'une maigre consolation!

RIP The Gathering.

Ben la je ne regrette vraiment pas d'y être allé sur la dernière tournée.... Franchement ils pourront faire ce qu'ils veulent mais The Gathering sans Anneke ça ne sera plus jamais The Gathering

ce titre démarre mal mais ensuite c'est tout simplement "bouleversifiant".
Dégouté qu'elle parte de The gathering mais si elle continue de pondre des titres de cette trempe, ça me rassure un peu.

Le seul truc qu'il faut retenir de ces histoires de chiotte c'est qu'il ne faut pas avoir de caille dans son groupe... comme dans la vraie vie, ca te fou la grouille, ca tient pas la route et ca a ses règles... bref le METAL c'est et ca doit rester un truc de poils et de couilles !
Bon dieu... t'ain on se croierait à la Star 'Ac entre Nightfion et the Gathering à la mort moi le noeud... aller... rideau !

Heureusement que les vraies roick'n'rolleuses sont la pour relever le niveau... Ruyter rule !

Ya que deux filles en ce bas monde pour être les exceptions qui confirment la regle : Floor et Ruyter... aller... Doro aussi !
Mais ces especes de pucelles lyrique en chausson dans le canapé je te les bafferaient moi !!! pffffffff...

Ah merde, pas cool ça comme news ça va clairement être dur de remplacer une chanteuse de cette trempe ... Finalement bien content de les avoir vus à Rennes fin 2004

Sauf que c'est pas du lyrique dans le cas d'Anneke

Et The Gathering n'a pas grand chose à voir avec Nightwish et les groupes de la vague, espèce de Fonz

M'enfin The Gathering c'est plus trop du metal de toutes manières, ce que je veux dire c'est que depuis How To Measure a Planet ils tapent plus dans le rock atmo que dans le metal. Aujourd'hui son départ ne me fait plus chaud ni froid, par contre après Nighttime Birds j'aurai crié au scandale mais là ...

Je vais pas être très original, je suis dégoûté comme à peu près tout le monde. je l’ais même pas vu en live.

Le groupe sort le 31 octobre un double DVD/live CD en guise d'épilogue de cette période, enregistré au Chili.

Dear all,

The waiting is over. Well ... almost!

We are very happy and proud to announce the release of our 9th studio album
in April 2009! The album will be called The West Pole. You probably are curious who is singing on our new record. We have found a new [female] vocalist, and we will have two [also female] guest singers on The West Pole.

We can imagine people are anxious to hear some of our new music. However, we will not make it to put new songs online this year. The reason is that some of our [many] guest musicians still need to be recorded and we prefer to present only complete version of the songs. As soon as we have mixed and mastered the album we will put some tracks on the web and of course you will be informed with all possible details. We believe, after hearing the new songs, you will agree the waiting was worthwhile!

We are very, very proud and we feel we made something really special. The album is produced by René Rutten, it will contain 9 tracks and will be released on our own imprint Psychonaut Records. It will be a very extravert, rock orientated, alive album. Typically the Gathering, but with many new elements. This time it's absolutely guitar driven. For sure.

The West Pole will be available via our own webshop one month before the actual release date. Like our DVD A Noise Severe we will make special packages. More news will follow soon.
