J'espère juste que cette fois Ed Pursino aura son mot à dire dans les compos, sinon à force ça va encore être un groupe qui se transforme en projet solo...

Oui mais ce que je veux dire c'est que le pere DeFeis il nous sort les mêmes trucs à chaque interview..
ça fait dix ans qu'il a composé l'équivalent de 250 albums, dix ans qu'il doit sortir un live .... mais 4 fois sur 5 en ce moment quand y'a un truc de VS qui sort c'est ou bien du fond de tiroir ou bien de la réédition ....

tient ça me donnera l'occas d'y jeter une oreille ces rééditions je connais rien de ce groupe ça rajeuni

Au sujet de ces rééditions :

VIRGIN STEELE frontman David DeFeis is busy working on the reissues of "The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell Part I" (1994) and "…Part II" (1995) — two highly acclaimed and respected albums that are considered to be among the genre's all-time best. Also due to be re-released on October 10, 2008 is VIRGIN STEELE's 1992 LP "Life Among the Ruins". This album hosts the most commercial tunes in the career of Virgin Steele with outstanding hits like the anthemic '80s rocker "Love Is Pain", the tender ballad "Last Rose of Summer" and "I Dress in Black", which was said to be "especially successful" in Germany and Japan. To make these classics even more valuable, David is currently remastering them at The Hammer Of Zeus studios alongside Ed Warrin and is reworking the artwork. As-yet-undisclosed bonus songs will also appear on each CD.

On October 31, veteran New York metallers VIRGIN STEELE will re-release their albums "Life Among The Ruins" (1992), "The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell Part I" (1994) and "The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell Part II" (1995) in Europe through the German label Dockyard 1. All three CDs will contain bonus tracks, new booklets and liner notes.

The bonus tracks for the "The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell Part II" album will consist of two live performances recorded in Germany, while the "Life Among The Ruins" bonus cuts comprise several live acoustic tracks that were recorded in the living room of singer David DeFeis' house during rehearsals.

Regarding the live acoustic rehearsal tapes, DeFeis stated, "Upon listening back to those recordings, we felt that we had achieved a really interesting mood… the performances are really raw, honest and direct. We did not add any multi-track overdubs or any additions whatsoever; they are just the stereo recordings presented live and unvarnished as we played them. In this age of high technology, we felt that it was nice to do something really raw and low-tech. The songs work well in this stripped-down format, and the feeling in the room was incredible. At some point we may actually release an entire disc of these various live onstage performances and rehearsals we have in our archives. As regards the full band live tracks… it is the same… no overdubs or enhancements. The tracks were recorded with just a simple stereo cassette player…not a multi-track high-end machine."

Le groupe vient de signer chez SPV:

SPV/Steamhammer has announced the signing of U.S. metallers VIRGIN STEELE. The worldwide deal includes the release of a new studio album, which is due by the end of October 2010, and the reissue of the band's entire back catalogue — from "Noble Savage" onwards. The back catalogue will be made available throughout 2011, with faithfully restored covers and booklets, bonus tracks and liner notes.

Commented Olly Hahn, A&R at Steamhammer: "It's an honor for me and the label that David DeFeis [vocals] decided to make his march to the olymp with us. The band deserve to stay on top of the metal genre and we are more than willing to pave the way together with the band!"

DeFeis added: "We are honored & proud to announce that we have just signed a new recording contract with the Hannover, Germany-based label Steamhammer/SPV Records. The incredible dedication and commitment to our genre and the understanding of what VIRGIN STEELE is really all about convinced us that this was the true home for the band. In a way, we have actually come full circle, because when 'Noble Savage' came out, it was in fact released on Steamhammer/SPV, so it is a kind of homecoming for us.

C'est une bonne nouvelle pour le groupe (maintenant que SPV a été racheté/sauvé des eaux), par contre ils n'étaient pas obligés de rééditer encore toute la discographie.
Dockyard l'a déjà fait il y a 2 ans, Sanctuary avant eux en 1997, 'tain à chaque changement de label ils rééditent tout. 'fin comme ça ils sont sûrs que les albums sont trouvables.

Justement, cela m'intéresse : j'ai deux vinyles de Virgin Steele : le 1er et "Guardian of the Flame", je les aime bien, je trouve que cela vieillit assez bien. Mais ensuite j'ai zappé. Si j'ai bien lu les articles ci-dessus, les albums "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" (titre d'un fabuleux poème de William BLAKE...tout un programme...) sont conseillés. Qu'en pensez-vous? Thanks.

est indispensable !
Ajoute à ca Noble Savage et Age of Consent et tu obtiens pour moi l'essentiel de ce que le groupe a fait de mieux.

que t'as les albums les plus dispensables du groupe

+1 avec Yacine et Cardinal, mais je rajouterais le House of Atreus Part I qui est du même calibre que la trilogie pour moi, même si moins abordable (et plus théâtral) que les autres il est vrai.

Pour faire une sélection encore plus drastique il me semble que Noble Savage et le Marriage part 2 sont vraiment le top.

Bonne nouvelle que cette signature en tout cas. Peut être même qu'ils trouveront les crédits pour engager un bassiste ?
Pis cette signature chez SPV augmente les chances de les voir faire une vraie tournée.

Once conquered by invading cultures, older Pagan deities become the demons of the new religion. The Black Light Bacchanalia is a reversal of the sacred sexual customs, and the final desecration of the 'Goddess Principle,' switching from matrilineal descent to patrilineal descent, with the rise of the idea of the Mountain-Fire God.... And it also has to do with ancient fears such as the fear of the sun not rising...Lyrically it is a kind of continuation of the story I told on the last album...Musically it is quite something else...”

Après toutes ces années, j'espère que le père DeFeis a pris son temps pour bien peaufiner ses compositions.

Espérons qu'il oubliera son piano à la con !

J'espère surtout que Pursino sera plus impliqué et inspiré dans l'écriture. A mes oreilles c'est quand même un élément important du son et de la qualité du groupe ... Sur le dernier, les guitares manquaient cruellement de mordant

+1, un gratteux pareil ne mérite pas d'être relégué au rang de simple exécutant.

ah yes! En esperant un album pas trop soporifique
