Le groupe affirme vouloir faire un retour aux premiers albums :
After completing work on the material for their ABOVE side project, Swiss industrial metallers SAMAEL have decided that "Above" will no longer be a project but the title of their new album.
Commented SAMAEL frontman Vorph: "After 20 years, we've tried to do an album that would represent what SAMAEL is all about and we did 'Solar Soul'. We feel now it is the right time to [remind] the people where we come from and that's exactly what 'Above' will do. It is like an enhanced version of our three or four first albums, maybe the missing link between 'Cermony Of Opposites' and 'Passage'. With the 'Era One' project we've tried to work on different influences; with 'Above' we stripped everything down. It is a metal album through and through."
SAMAEL's "Above" is set for a winter 2009 release.

Solar Soul était bien lourd, trop "Samael", du déja entendu quoi. Un peu de "back to basics" ne peut pas leur faire de mal.

Ça sonne plus dark, voire black. Ça fait un peu penser à Dissection en fait je trouve.
Ça arrive pas à la cheville d'un Passage ou d'un Ceremony Of Opposites pour moi, mais c'est de loin le meilleur truc que j'ai entendu de Samael depuis Exodus.

^ On dirait du (très) vieux Impaled Nazarene ce morceau. Assez nul pour Samael je trouve... comme tout ce qu'ils ont sorti depuis Eternal inclus !
Ce qui est sûr, par rapport aux extraits que j'ai écoutés, c'est qu'ils ont cherché à faire un truc plus extrême, moins pop en tout cas.

Je confirme, "Eternal", ça tue sa mémé en short (et je dirais même que c'est leur meilleur album pour moi)
