Je crée ce sujet afin de cesser de sucetter le sujet sur l'avenir de Black Sabbath en parlant du passé de Black Sabbath. J'avais entendus parler quelques fois des bootlegs de The Eternal Idol avec Ray Gillen, mais je ne m'étais pas encore penché sur le sujet. Je viens de trouver ça.

Oh y'en a un paquet !!!
Ray Gillen avait remplacé Glenn Hughes sur toute la tournée Seventh Star (Hughes a assuré 6 dates avant de déclarer forfait suite à des soucis de santé).

La version que je poste là est celle de David Donato qui a brievement fait partie du groupe apres le départ de Ian Gillan...
Donc ce morceau date d'avant les sessions Seven Star en fait!
Il est différent de la version studio!

David Donato n'a pas foutu grand chose à part avoir eu un minuscule succes avec le groupe White Tiger dans lequel on regroupe l'ancien guitariste de KISS Mark Saint John .

Cette période du groupe (entre le départ de Hughes et la sortie de Eternal Idol avec Tony Martin) c'est quand même le gros bordel.

Concernant les 2 versions démo de Eternal Idol avec Ray Gillen, je n'ai écouté que quelques titres sur youtube de celle qui a failli être la définitive, donc pas assez pour juger. Il faudrait que je m'écoute la totalité d'une traite, mais à première vue je préfère quand même la voix de Martin qui possède plus de grain. Ce qui n'enlève rien à l'impressionnante performance de Gillen.

Apres le départ de Gillan tu veux dire !!!
Y'a eu un paquet de chanteurs auditionnés avant l'arrivée de Hughes ...
J'en veux pour preuve le titre posté ci-dessus avec Donato ... et même les titres de Seventh Star n'avaient pas été chantées par Hughes sur les démos de Seventh Star !!!!

Oui, dès le départ de Gillan c'était la foire à la saucisse dans le line-up, mais je disais ça pour coller au sujet (la période 86-88).

ça serait cool qu'ils sortent un jour dans un coffret toutes ces démos et versions parallèles de l'époque, ainsi que du live avec Gillen, Hughes et consorts, il y aurait de quoi remplir un paquet de CD!

Alors là y'a du lourd mes amis : The Eternal Idol va être réédité en double CD le 25 octobre, contenant pour la première fois officiellement la version complète avec Ray Gillen au chant!

Tony Iommi a donné son accord pour cette réédition inespérée.

De plus, Seventh Star va être réédité avec un CD bonus lui aussi, un live, sur lequel on ne retrouve pas Glenn Hughes mais Ray Gillen là encore.

Pourquoi tout ça seulement maintenant? Je n'en sais rien, mais c'est tant mieux.

Ray Gillen Eternal Idol to be Released - FOR REAL!

I've been running this site now for a little over 15 years. In all that time, I get a LOT of requests for bootlegs and whatnot. I generally don't participate in that stuff, since I do not have time for it. However, it doesn't stop people from asking. And in all that time, by far the thing I've been asked by people if I can send them is the version of the 1987 album "The Eternal Idol", but with Ray Gillen on vocals.

A short story: After just a handful of dates on the 86 Seventh Star Tour, Glenn Hughes was let go, and Ray Gillen was brought on board. He finished the tour, and work began on the next album, and it was mostly completed. But Ray Gillen left to found the very under appreciated band Badlands (with Eric Singer also from Sabbath), and this left Black Sabbath with a mostly completed album, and no singer. Tony Martin was brought in, and re-recorded all the vocals in two weeks. The album came out with Tony Martin, and the only remaining bit of the Ray Gillen original vocals was some laughter in the track "Nightmare".

The original Ray Gillen version has been traded in bootleg circles for ages now, but no more! I almost fell over when I was told this news..
TONY IOMMI HAS GIVEN PERMISSION FOR THE RAY GILLEN ETERNAL IDOL ALBUM TO BE RELEASED - FOR REAL!

I actually said the the record label guy who told me about this, "Holy shit - are you kidding me?" It's for real folks. This is the latest entries in the multi CD expanded series of Sabbath remasters that have been released over the last year or two. The most recent ones were the early 80's Dio albums. That left Born Again, Seventh Star, & The Eternal Idol to go. (Headless Cross through Forbidden were on IRS, and are a separate record deal - which I'm told will eventually happen too). Anyway, the next two albums to be released are going to be Seventh Star & Eternal Idol. Born Again I'm told is not until 2011 sometime, but it will be happening (I'm told with a proper mix, too - but it's still being worked on).

Anyways, about Eternal Idol. The first disc is the album we've known for awhile, with the additional tracks "Some Kind of Woman" & "Black Moon (demo)" included. That's Disc 1. Disc 2 will comprise the Ray Gillen Eternal Idol album. I mean, WOW. That's like stupid exciting news!

I'm told the two CD releases of Seventh Star & Eternal Idol will be released on October 25th. As these are Universal releases, that means they won't be released domestically in the US. But this shouldn't matter. You should run screaming for this Eternal Idol release when it comes out. It's a seriously underrated Sabbath album anyway, and to get the Ray Gillen version as well?? Oh yeah, it should be an autopurchase. Even if I wouldn't get one for free from the label for running this site, I'd be there on day one to buy it for myself.

Seventh Star News: This isn't all about Eternal Idol, there's a refresh on Seventh Star as well. The first disc of Seventh Star will include the album we know, as well as the remixed version of "No Stranger to Love", which appears in the music video of the same. Amazon UK's site lists a second version of that, but I'm not aware of there being more than one remix on there.

Disc 2 however, is a live concert. It was recorded on June 2, 1986 and has Ray Gillen on vocals. After all this time, some heavy duty love for the Ray Gillen incarnation of Black Sabbath. You should buy both of these the second you can.

This is some seriously exciting news. Sadly, they aren't being released in the US, but the price in the UK isn't prohibitive, you should have it shipped here to the US. There are supposed to be official press releases out on these shortly, I'll make sure and pass them along when I get them.

Pour en savoir plus sur la période 1980-2007 de BLACK SABBATH, il y a le passionnant livre de Garry SHARPE-YOUNG "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - The Battle For Black Sabbath", quasi-exhaustif sur cette période, qui détaille, à partir d'interviews de 1ère main de presque tous les musiciens impliqués, la carrière du BLACK SABBATH et les débuts d'OZZY. A lire absolument par ceux intéressés par la période non-Ozzy du SAB'.

Universal Music are pleased to announce the release of deluxe edition re-issues of the Black Sabbath albums "Seventh Star" and "The Eternal Idol".

After the departure of Black Sabbath's third vocalist Ian Gillan following the "Born Again" album (released in 1983) the band effectively split-up and the remaining members embarked upon their own solo ventures. However, pressure from record companies and management would dictate the name Black Sabbath should forge-ahead and even though guitarist Tony Iommi would by now be the sole remaining original member, his unmistakable musicality and signature guitar sound would prove more than sufficient to keep the heart of Black Sabbath alive and beating deep into the 1980's and beyond.

"Seventh Star" (originally released in 1986) saw Iommi recruiting the skills of Dave "The Beast" Spitz and drummer Eric Singer (later of Kiss renown) and for the first time the position of a keyboardist became a visible credit and long-serving back-room operator, Geoff Nicholls was finally brought to the foreground as an official member. However, it would be the position of lead vocalist that would have the greatest impact upon the new Sabbath sound and the appointment of ex. Trapeze and Deep Purple bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes, set interest and expectations high. Seventh Star would be somewhat of a departure from what was expected from the Black Sabbath name, and the songs on Seventh Star are more blues inclined and in the case of the single release, 'No Stranger To Love', an altogether more AOR and radio friendly breeze is adopted.

This re-mastered Deluxe Expanded Edition of the album adds the US Remix of the 'No Stranger To Love' single and also for the very first time on CD, a live performance from London's Hammersmith Odeon in June '86 which features then unknown American singer, Ray Gillen on lead vocals who was brought-in to complete the tour following the departure of Glenn Hughes due to illness.

"The Eternal Idol" (Black Sabbath's thirteenth studio album released in 1987) was an altogether harder sounding record and brought back an 'edge' that had been missing from Seventh Star. Although the album was originally recorded with unknown American singer Ray Gillen, by the time it came to the album release Tony Martin had joined the band and subsequently replaced all the vocal work for the final album.

The Eternal Idol re-mastered Deluxe Expanded Edition adds two single b-sides from 'The Shining': 'Black Moon' and 'Some Kind Of Woman', whilst the second disc brings to CD for the very first time the complete album session originally recorded by the late Ray Gillen.

Une super nouvelle pour moi que ces nouvelles sorties, ce sont deux albums qui manquent dans ma discothèque, une bonne raison de se rattraper si les prix sont corrects

J'ai fait le saut récemment quand j'ai découvert que Tyr se vendait généralement cher, alors que je l'ai trouvé à 8 dollars, certes usagé, chez mon disquaire préféré en 2005.

Ainsi que Cross Purposes et Cross Purposes live eux aussi devenu hors de prix.
Le truc c'est que Black Sabbath a changé de maison de disque à partir de Headless Cross.
Je ne sais pas ce qu'ils comptent faire des 4 derniers albums studios enregistrés avec Tony Martin.
Rien n'est impossible étant donné qu'ils avaient ressorti le Dehumanizer en édition limitée il y a quelque temps.
