With last week's more than highly successful the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT album shows in London done and over, it's time for the Canadian musician/producer to focus on bigger things. Much bigger things… In fact, the biggest show he's ever done.
Commented Devin: "This last week was probably THE defining moment in my life, let alone my career, in many ways.
"I've had some intense gigs and experiences in music before, but all pale in comparison to the four sold-out shows in London where we played all four DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT records, with four different bands, night after night. Everyone worked incredibly hard, and each of us gave 100% to pull it off, bands, players, management, label, and audience. It was awesome!
"So here's the next big gig: Next October 27th, at the amazing Roundhouse in London, We're putting on the most definitive 'Devin' show to date. A culmination of my ENTIRE career with a star lineup and full supporting cast.
"The show is being called 'The Retinal Circus', (named after an old Vancouver club in the '60s, famous for psychedelic rock shows) and will be more than just a musical performance… there will be an art exhibition, actors, Ziltoid, stilt walkers, fire breathers… you name it.
"My goal has always been to make SHOWS, and this is the first opportunity I have been given to do a high-end production that puts it all together! It's the closest Saturday to Halloween, and the goal is to make something amazing that we can all enjoy… details to come… psychedelic!
"My career has been full of amazing musicians, and there will be plenty of them present at this show, and I'll be playing music that has never been attempted due to the size of the songs and the need for certain things. It will be recorded for a DVD, of course, and it's going to be a pretty intense experience… We have a year to make it perfect, so I just wanted to give you some hints! The VIP package will be available with special goodies among other exclusive things.

Dur de se projeter aussi loin (même si les places pour Deep Purple et Ian Anderson en Novembre risquent de partir comme des petits pains), mais ça m'a l'air plus que tentant !
Et l'affiche dans le même esprit de cirque ziltoïden fait quand même bien envie !

Et s'il pouvait de nouveau inviter Anneke Van Giersbergen pour les chansons du Project (mais aussi les autres, tant qu'à faire), ça serait bien bonnard aussi !

Je conseillerais à ceux que ça branche de pas attendre le dernier moment pour prendre leur place, j'ai réservé la mienne hier soir un peu sur un coup de coeur (coup de tête ?), les coffrets V.I.P. sont déjà écoulés (on pouvait s'y attendre, soit), et comme il a pas mal de succès en Angleterre, je pense que les billets feront pas très long feu...

Comme on pouvait s'y attendre, et comme c'était déjà le cas pour les 4 concerts donnés dans la capitale anglaise en Novembre 2011, le concert est désormais complet.

Yep, d'où toutes les annonces plus haut.
C'est pour ça que j'ai fait le déplacement à la base d'ailleurs, mais quand j'ai vu l'hommage à Genesis la veille et la célébration d'Halloween par Alice Cooper le lendemain, j'ai logiquement étendu ma planification.
Je préfère pas mentionner de C.R. pour l'instant, je suis déjà tellement à la bourre sur d'autres...
Mais au vu des 2h30 de concert, de la mise en scène, la setlist, la présence de Jed Simon (qui n'en cessait de remercier le public et en avait littéralement les larmes aux yeux) et Anneke Van Giersbergen, l'auto-dérision et les conneries permanentes, la bonne humeur et cette jovialité foutraque de Devy, j'aurais facilement pu patienter une heure supplémentaire dehors sous la pluie que ça aurait valu le coup les yeux fermés.
Et bon sang, putain de STRAPPING YOUNG LAD !

En fait j'ajouterais même une chose :
Contrairement aux derniers méfaits d'une certaine feignasse imbue d'elle-même convertie aux born again, ce "Retinal Circus" a bel et bien largement tenu toutes ses promesses.
Certes il s'agissait d'un concert événement unique et non pas d'une tournée complète à l'instar des "30 Years Of Thunder", mais à raison d'une année d'anticipation quasi-complète dans le cas présent également, la promotion avait été faite avec sobriété, en termes de racolage et non pas de contenu : contrairement ce qui a davantage eu l'allure d'une vitrine de Noël noyée sous la houle intempestive des pléthoriques communiqués narcissiques et pompeux du nombriliste Mr. Duren, les media mis à contribution par le Dev n'ont pas joué à qui rabâcherait le plus lourdement jusqu'à plus soif les mérites d'un spectacle vanté comme étant spectaculaire.
Ils y ont mis les moyens, et le résultat était bien au rendez-vous, quand bien même l'initiative partait d'un constat empirique basé sur le bien fondé du retour positif d'un public réceptif, et à raison, des 4 concerts Londoniens de Novembre dernier, eux-mêmes déjà organisé dans la même veine suivant la perspective d'une appréciation et de retours enthousiastes de la part de leurs fans.
