LYNYRD SKYNRD singer Johnny Van Zant spoke with Michael Hamersly from the Miami Herald recently about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Miami Herald: There seems to be a lot of love at a Skynyrd show, with images of Ronnie (Van Zant - late singer/Johnny's brother) flashing on the video screen and other nods to fallen band members. How do you guys feel onstage together these days?
Van Zant: "We lost two members last year, and that was dramatic for us. We were right in the middle of making a new album, God & Guns, so we put our boots back on and went up to Nashville and finished that record. Hey, we're the underdog. Skynyrd's been through a lot, and our fans have stayed with us and turned their kids on to the music, so we have a variety of people in our audience, you know? We have everything from doctors, lawyers to plumbers to ditch-diggers (laughs)."
Miami Herald: Back in the '70s, did you know your brother and his band were making history with all those great songs?
Van Zant: "I thought it was great music. I thought it was for the common people. I was always a big fan of JIM CROCE, and I loved that kind of music that hit common people. And I thought my brother was a poet for the common man and the common woman, you know? He had a very short life, but he left a heck of a legacy."

Johnny Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd) hospitalisé

Visiblement le groupe annule certains shows aux USA (merde revenez ici les mecs... ), du fait que le chanteur se soit fait opéré il y a peu et subisse des complications actuellement:
Johnny Van Zant, lead singer of the group Lynyrd Skynyrd, was hospitalized over the weekend due to complications from a previous surgery. Johnny Van Zant was admitted to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN on August 6, with a surgical site infected cellulitis which required hospitalization with IV antibiotic treatment. Van Zant has a severe Staph infection and multiple symptoms related to infection. Johnny Van Zant is to remain out of work and recover for at least one week or cleared by his primary doctor.
The following dates have been cancelled or re-scheduled:
-Clear Lake, WI at Firefest was August 6, is now re-scheduled for September 10
-Grand Rapids, MI at Rock the Rapids Music Festival on August, Skynyrd performance has been cancelled
-Sturgis, SD at Buffalo Chip on August 10, Skynyrd performance has been cancelled
For refunds, ticket holders should go back to point of purchase for refunds. Rescheduled shows will honor previously printed tickets.
Lynyrd Skynyrd plans to resume their regular tour schedule on Friday, August 12, in Sedalia, Missouri or as doctors advise.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Last Of A Dyin' Breed

Nouvel album pour le 21 août!
LYNYRD SKYNYRD new album, Last Of A Dyin' Breed will be released August 21st via Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records and features 11 brand-new songs. Check out the cover art below:
Last Of A Dying Breed is the band’s first studio album since the September, 2009 release of God & Guns, which reunites the band with producer Bob Marlette.
“It was great to get back in the studio with Bob for this new album,” said Gary Rossington. “We kind of went back old school this time. All of us playing together in the studio as a band, tracking songs and creating licks. We had a lot of fun and the music really flowed for us, so that’s when you know you are on to something good. We can’t wait to let the fans hear these songs and play ‘em live.”
Led by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, Lynyrd Skynyrd have recorded an album that continues the tremendous legacy that began over 35 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida, a legacy that was halted for a decade after the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Billy Powell, Ean Evans, Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Huey Thomasson, yet they rock on.
Joining Lynyrd Skynyrd will be bass player Johnny Colt, an original member of THE BLACK CROWES, who has also played with TRAIN and ROCKSTAR SUPERNOVA. When asked about receiving a phone call from Rickey Medlocke on behalf of Lynyrd Skynyrd to join the band, Johnny said, “What else do you say to Medlocke, Rossington and Van Zant? We’re talking southern rock royalty. We’re talking Lynyrd Skynyrd. The only thing out of my mouth was when and where!”
