Attributes in music are known to be cyclical. Every few years, a band comes along who borrows just enough from the revered past to bring a new infusion of vitality to the musical present. SCORPION CHILD's sound invokes a time when guitar-driven rock ruled radio's airwaves, when being hypnotized by a frontman and his bandmates in a concert arena was one of life's ultimate main events. A five-piece from Austin, Texas, SCORPION CHILD have spent the last few years perfecting both their songwriting and stage show. Guitarists Chris Cowart and David Finner deliver their finessed twin guitar attack with experience older than their years; bassist Shaun Avants and drummer Shawn Alvear are steadfast sentinels of their driving rhythm section; and lead singer Aryn Jonathan Black fronts the psychedelic rock cavalry with a passion & voice reminiscent of the early eras of Robert Plant and Ronnie James Dio.

This May, Nuclear Blast will release SCORPION CHILD's self-titled, full-length debut. Produced and arranged by Chris “Frenchie” Smith (THE ANSWER, AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD...), the album uses analog recording technology to organically capture a hybrid of nine, hook-filled chapters of heavy psych rock. The goal? To breathe new life into a neglected yet still important musical heritage.

Encore une fois avec ce groupe, je trouve que ça sonne mais que ça reste du resucé de déjà fais puissance 1000... ce dernier titre a de sérieux relants de Ride in the Sky de Lucifer's Friends (groupe dont ils ont d'ailleurs fait une cover), comme celui d'avant sentais le Clone de Led Zep un peu plus actuel à la The Answer. On verra bien sur scène sous peu quoi.

Clair, on se retape le même schéma qu'avec le revival thrash, quelques groupes qui sortent du lot, mais plus ça passe, plus on se bouffe des trucs qui sonnent pareil sans vraie personnalité (je retrouve ça pour beaucoup de nouveaux groupes chez Rise Above entre autre, comme Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats par exemple)... bon c'est un peu poussé de dire ça dans le cas de Scorpions Child, c'est pas du total préfabriqué non plus mais bon, reste que ça me frise pas les poils du cul non plus.
Encore une fois, je ne parle que pour moi.

bah c'est sur que lorsqu'on voit les sorties nuclear blast du moment on pige la combine... n'empêche que je me fais avoir à chaque fois... il est très sympa ce disque, un peu trop led zep mais j'aime bien ce stype de retro hard. Pour l'instant, je dois avouer que j'y trouve mon bonheur (Witchcraft, Orchid, Kadavar et Scorpions Child) maintenant je redoute la suite

C'est aussi une histoire de feeling c'est clair, j'accroche carrément à Witchcraft, Graveyard, Rainbows Are Free ou Orchid, mais j'ai beaucoup de mal avec Uncle Acid ou Kadavar, que je trouve carrément moins inspirés, ou du moins authentiques et venant du fond des trips de mon ressenti personnel. Après pas sûr que ceux que je préfère soient forément plus authentiques c'est clair, mais c'est qui ressort quand je les écoute.

Je n'accroche pas non plus beaucoup à Scorpion Child, l'écoute de l'album m'a -pour être poli- ennuyé.
Par contre je suis bien plus emballé par un Uncle Acid, je trouve qu'ils ont une identité bien plus marquée, la voix, le son global, les ambiances, même si là aussi rien de nouveau.
