Il a signé chez Frontiers.
Pas une seule de note de nouvelle musique dans la bande-annonce, juste du Mindcrime...
OPERATION: MINDCRIME, the band led by former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate, has signed a worldwide deal with Frontiers Music Srl for the release of its forthcoming trilogy project.
Named after QUEENSRŸCHE's epic concept album from 1988, "Operation: Mindcrime", Tate's new band includes Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE), Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO), Randy Gane (MYTH), Kelly Gray (QUEENSRYCHE 1998 - 2001, 2012 - 2014) and Robert Sarzo (QUEENSRYCHE 2012 - 2014).
"All of us in OPERATION: MINDCRIME are looking forward to the new frontier with our new label, Frontiers Music Srl," states Tate. "They're giving us the creative freedom necessary to do the trilogy project I've envisioned for the past few years. It's going to be great fun for all of us involved and we hope our fans will enjoy listening to it as much as we plan to enjoy creating and recording it."
Ecstatic to have the band on his label, Frontiers Music Srl president Serafino Perugino comments, "As a long time fan of Geoff Tate and'Operation: Mindcrime' (the album), I am truly honored that he decided to sign with my label to give a home to his forthcoming trilogy. We look forward to release OPERATION: MINDCRIME's new music to the world!"
Tate, who has always enjoyed telling stories though his music, considers the creation of the forthcoming trilogy one of his biggest and most ambitious works to date.
"I tried to reduce the story and eventually got it down to 37 ideas that needed representing to complete the story," comments Geoff. "I knew that one record wouldn't cover it and that it would have to be a trilogy."
Speaking to the the "10songs" podcast, Tate said that he was approaching the songwriting sessions for the forthcoming debut album from his OPERATION: MINDCRIME project in a very different way to how he used to compose music for his former band.
"I'm doing a trilogy album," Tate told the "10songs" podcast. "And it's three records, and I'm recording all of it at once and then releasing it over a three-year period, one album per year."
He continued: "It's a story. It's a complete story in three parts. It's kind of a really unique story, and I'm sorry I can't really talk about it right now, but it's kind of set in an international location — different places around the world.
"What I'm trying to do is create music that kind of puts you in that place using instruments or melodies or sounds that are indigenous to the place where the story is taking place."
Asked if the OPERATION: MINDCRIME album will be a band situation or more of a solo release, Tate said: "I'm in kind of a unique position now where I can work with who I want to work with. And I'm not in that band situation where it all has to be democratic and that kind of thing anymore. I respect that and I was part of that for many years. But I'm really enjoying the freedom of having different players play with me and sit in. It's really inspiring."
According to Tate, the diminishing music sales in the streaming age have enabled him to throw out the rules book when it comes to songwriting and use his creativity to the fullest extent possible.
"This new album I'm working on, I'm approaching it very differently than I've ever approached any album before," Tate said.
"It's always been in my head to create music based on a commercial attangement — intro, verse, chorus, solo… that kind of thing. Just because my band always wrote music for radio, and [with] radio you had to conform to a format and a standard in order to get [the songs] on the radio. And I suddenly realized one day that, well, this album, it's not gonna be played on the radio. It won't be, because there's no money to promote it on the radio. So why am I following that same format? And all of a sudden, I just went, 'Oh my God. I don't have to follow the street signs anymore. I can do whatever I want.' And it was like this revelation. And I feel kind of ridiculous admitting it out loud, but it's true. It's like I saw God all of a sudden. So I've just been writing."
He added: "It's so refreshing to not have to follow this to-minute, three-minute commercial format, arrangement, you know?! So I've been having a great time with it and just exploring melody. Which, I've always loved melody and figuring out variations on melody and I've tried to do that within the song structure since I started out. But in not having to follow this rigid format, it gives me a lot more of a chance… more space to create more melody. So when I get stated on a phrase, I can now take that phrase for two minutes and expand in harmony, or expand it and change it up in a rhythm structure way. So I'm just having a great time."
OPERATION: MINDCRIME, the new band led by former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate, will release its debut album, "The Key", on September 18 via Frontiers Music Srl.

OPERATION: MINDCRIME last Thursday (June 25) filmed a video for an as-yet-undisclosed song from "The Key". The clip is one of two OPERATION: MINDCRIME videos which are being produced and directed by Seattle filmmaker and documentarian Jamie Burton Chamberlin (of Black Dahlia Films), who previously worked with DUFF MACKAGAN'S LOADED on "The Taking" series.
"The Key" will be the first part of OPERATION: MINDCRIME's trilogy project which Tate began recording in 2014.

Alors,
Premier extrait : pourri, à l'image de ce qu'il a composé ces derniers temps avant de se faire virer de Queensrÿche
Deuxième extrait : pas mal du tout, étonnant même, et des arrangements dans l'esprit de Mindcrime
Troisième extrait : ce n'est pas Tate qui chante, bizarre mais pourquoi pas...
Quatrième extrait : j'hésite entre poussif et ça s'écoute, là encore un côté Mindcrime
On sent les allusions et recettes musicales de Mindcrime sur ces extraits, bon évidemment on sera à des années lumière en terme de compos, de chant ou même d'approche artistique, mais ça pourrait malgré tout être (un peu) plus intéressant que tout ce qu'il a pondu ces dernières années. Ou moins naze, c'est selon.

Le clip de la chanson qui m'avait bien plue dans les extraits, et ça se confirme elle est sympa et très (trop?) Mindcrime croisé avec du Promised Land. Après le chant n'est plus du même niveau loin s'en faut, mais la compo tient étonnement bien la route.

Beaucoup moins intéressant cette fois, et tellement typique de ce que Tate écrit depuis la fin des années 90... ici du sous-Alice in Chains, tout juste écoutable.
Avec en prime un solo pourri à la limite de l'amateurisme, qui rappelle que Kelly Gray est toujours aussi nul à la guitare que lorsqu'il avait fait une pige dans Queensrÿche.

Au vu du titre j'ai cru à une reprise de Suicidal Tendencies.
Sinon je trouve ça assez mou jusqu'à 4 mn, après ça se réveille sans être l'extase.
Après un bon départ, ça se gatte de plus en plus, de nouveaux records de médiocrité viennent d'être battus.
"The Stranger" : nullissime, horrible, il faudrait inventer de nouveaux qualificatifs pour cette abomination. Pseudo grunge pseudo rappé, complètement daté et surtout atrocement moisi. J'ai eu énormément de mal à aller jusqu'au bout, je crois que je préfèrerais me passer la discographie intégrale de Limp Bizkit plutôt que d'avoir à le réécouter.
"Hearing Voices" : pas tout à fait aussi insupportable que le précédent, mais ça reste incroyablement chiant à crever la bouche ouverte. Comme pour le 2ème extrait ("Burn"), cela représente bien tout ce qui n'allait pas et ce qui devenait de plus en plus désespérant dans Queensrÿche avant qu'ils ne se séparent de lui.
Je me fais du mal à écouter cette merde, même le chant est naze... venant d'un mec qui fut le meilleur de sa génération et qui a chanté des pelletés d'hymnes comme "Walk in the Shadows" et "Revolution Calling", on peut difficilement chuter plus bas que ça.
Bref, sur 4 extraits, pour l'instant le seul qui ne soit pas pourrave est "Reinventing the Future" (malgré son plagiat évident et assumé de Mindcrime), alors je me suis demandé pourquoi une telle différence d'écriture. Et en cherchant un peu je viens de comprendre : il est écrit par Dave Ellefson (Megadeth)!
Alors que les autres atrocités purulentes en écoute sont visiblement écrites par Tate et sa bande de potes en carton (Jason Slater, Kelly Gray, Randy Gane), donc dans la lignée des verrues qui infestaient les albums de Queensrÿche depuis 10 ans, mais encore pire. Tout s'explique.
Sinon j'ai lu l'article de Metronews, et j'ai bien rigolé : "Sur The Key, Geoff Tate marie habilement son héritage musical, entre heavy metal et rock progressif, avec des sonorités plus modernes."
Putain combien ont-ils été payés pour écrire ça? Car dans ce qui est en écoute il n'y a rien de progressif, rien de metal, et rien de moderne non plus. Juste la même bouse déclinante dont on avait pris l'habitude avec Tate depuis Q2K, désormais propulsée à un niveau encore plus abyssal par des musiciens en bois. Et dire que ce n'est que le premier volet d'une trilogie, vivement la suite.

Houla je ne me base que sur les 4 titres promotionnels en écoute, je n'ai pas écouté le reste. Ça se trouve il est fantastique. Bon, j'ai comme un doute là.
Et surtout je n'en ai plus envie, s'il faut se farcir cette chienlit pendant une heure.
Je n'ai pas encore acheté le nouveau Queensrÿche, mais même si je crains un peu le résultat il ne peut pas être pire que ça. C'est juste pas possible.

j'ai seulement découvert queensryche en voyant le live au wacken de cet été Vous allez me prendre pour un autiste après avoir lu ça mais c'est bien la réalité
Et j'ai adoré. Va falloir que je me procure leur dernier album

Si tu ne connais aucun album, avant de te prendre le dernier, il y a quand même quelques vieux albums de ce groupe qui méritent que tu y jettes une oreille...voire les deux.

+ rage for order, cet album me bluffe encore à chaque écoute pour son aspect novateur, les ambiances et les lignes vocales de Tate ( "I dream in infra-red" ).
Mais grosso modo jusque Promised Land inclus ( ou pas pour certains)tout est indispensable.
...Du coup, ton avis équilibre un peu les avis positifs vus ça et là.
