Christian hard rockers STRYPER entered SpiritHouse Recording Studios in Northampton, Massachusetts earlier in the month to begin recording their new album, "Fallen", for a late 2015 release via Frontiers.

STRYPER guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet wrote: "Clint Lowery of SEVENDUST sent me this opening riff idea and it's epic! Yeah, STRYPER is wimpy :-."
Regarding the musical direction of the new STRYPER material, Michael Sweet told Eddie Trunk's SiriusXM satellite radio show, "Eddie Trunk Live": "It's gonna be… I don't wanna scare any fans away or anything, but it's gonna be the heaviest album we've done. Not in the sense that it's gonna be thrash metal or anything like that. It's definitely got a little bit of a darker vibe to it lyrically and musically. Some of the songs are tuned down — not like the modern Drop B stuff; I'm talking like the E dropped to D, 'Unchained' VAN HALEN kind of stuff. And it's just got a heavy sound to it. And I think when people hear it, in a good way, they're gonna go, 'That's STRYPER? What?' I think they're gonna be shocked."
Asked if there are still any religious references in the new STRYPER lyrics, Sweet told Canadian journalist Mitch Lafon: "Absolutely. Some of the words themselves are actually taken from the Bible, so that's still there. The lyrics are definitely on the bold and powerful side. They're not like the lyrics of old.
"A lot of our lyrics, I read back through the lyrics, and at times I'm a little embarrassed because they were just so repetitive and shallow at times — just real simplistic 'Rock, rock rock. Jesus, Jesus.' These lyrics are definitely a lot deeper. I'm pulling from the Bible at times."
He continued: "There's a song about God creating the heavens and the earth. It's called 'Let There Be Light'. And it's about in the beginning, and it's taken right from Genesis. There's a song about the Devil; it's called 'Fallen'. It just talks about how when the Devil, when he was Lucifer, an archangel in heaven, when he walked, he was the angel of music, and when he walked, there was music. It tells the story in that song of, basically, about how he's fallen, and why, and how. It's a real powerful song.
"I've got a song called 'Big Screen Lies' that's about how the film industry portrays Christians as complete buffoons one million percent of the time. And that's just not the case. It is sometimes, but those buffoon Christians don't represent all of us."
Finalement la parenthèse de Michael Sweet avec Georges Lynch n'aura pas duré et l'actualité de Stryper refait surface plus tot que prévu.
Le Sweet/Lynch est pas mal mais pas à la hauteur de ce qu'on pouvait espérer.

Je l'ai pris et je le trouve très bien...mais je ne suis pas du tout spécialiste de ces deux musiciens.

Le problème de Georges Lynch: il est capable de rester 10 ans sans rien foutre, et du jour au lendemain de s'impliquer dans 15 projets différents à la fois sans se donner à fond dans aucun de ceux-là.
Le problème du Lynch/Sweet c'est qu'à chaque fois, je me dis, c'est pas mal mais il manque pas grand chose pour faire passer les morceaux au niveau supérieur. Et du côté de Michael Sweet, ben on a l'impression que sorti de Stryper il ne propose rien d'autre.
Donc ça sonne comme un album moyen de Stryper au final.

Je le trouve très bon le Sweet & Lynch, album qui se bonifie au fil des écoutes.
L'autre problème de George Lynch vient aussi du fait que depuis le milieu de 90's il ne prend plus la peine de composer ses solos et se contente d'improviser, se reposant sur son style et son toucher unique. C'est particulièrement flagrant lorsque l'on réecoute les premiers Dokken.
Dans tous les cas j'ai hâte d'écouter ce nouveau Stryper, "No more hell to pay" étant vraiment excellent (dans mon top 3 du groupe).

L'album contiendra une reprise du classique "After Forever" de Black Sabbath, je suis curieux d'entendre ça.

Lors de leur concert au Monter of Rock, ils ont invité Todd LaTorre de Queensryche, qu'ils connaissent bien car ils ont souvent tapé le boeuf ensemble.
Mais cette fois la nouveauté est qu'il a tenu la batterie! En effet c'est son instrument de toujours, avant le chant.

A noter aussi que le groupe s'est attiré les foudres d'une partie de ses fans, suite à un post de Michael Sweet sur Facebook où il semble approuver/féliciter l'autorisation du mariage homosexuel aux USA, si on lit entre les lignes.

En tout cas c'est du Stryper poussé à l'extrême : hyper heavy, limite sombre, tonalité de guitare reconnaissable entre mille, Sweet en grande forme vocale, refrain de chorale kitsch et catchy, sans oublier bien sur Jésus et Pilate pendant 6 minutes non stop (faut supporter )... la totale.

Wouah l'idée est bonne, j'aime l'intro et tout, mais c'est agaçant le fait que chaque fin de mot soit tirée sur 3 longueurs

Après une chanson sur Yahvé, une sur Lucifer, voilà l'équilibre est respecté.
En tout cas ils avaient annoncé cet album comme le plus heavy metal de leur carrière, et pour l'instant ça s'avère vrai.
