Des covers de hard rock au programme, mais pas uniquement, pour preuve le premier extrait est une reprise de Frida (ABBA) :
Jorn's new album, Heavy Rock Radio, is due for release on June 3rd. A music video for the album’s lead track, “I Know There's Something Going On”, a cover of the hit from ABBA star Frida, can be seen below:
Heavy Rock Radio is not an ordinary album of cover songs, it is truly a songbook of hits. Featured - among others - are great versions of the Eagles' "Hotel California" and Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", they all get the Jorn style treatment and become powerful and epic, without losing their commercial touch. More great classics included are John Farnham's "You're The Voice", Queen's "Killer Queen", and two absolute melodic rock evergreen gems in Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and Foreigner's "Rev On The Red Line".
The original concept of the album was to create a jukebox of radio hits, but to avoid leaning too much on the pop side of rock, Jorn decided to blend the tracklisting with a few more up tempo rock tracks as well, such as "The Final Frontier" by Iron Maiden ("probably the closest you get to anything commercial with Iron Maiden," says Jorn), "Live To Win" by Paul Stanley (a song which was also featured on the popular television series South Park), and a few hard rock classics show up as well such as Deep Purple ("Stormbringer"), Dio ("Rainbow In The Dark") and Black Sabbath ("Die Young") to complete the mix.
The title Heavy Rock Radio came quite naturally, as the sound of this album feels like it's tailor made for any rock radio station. This record is a special treat for all the fans, while waiting for the new original album, which is being worked on at the moment.

C'est déjà son 3ème album de reprises en 10 ans! Après "Unlocking the Past" et "Dio".
Je n'ai rien contre en soi, la reprise de Frida est chouette comme tout et j'imagine que le reste doit être sympa.
Pourtant je ne suis pas sûr que ce soit la meilleure façon d'utiliser son temps...
Et pour Maiden je me demande quand même ce qui l'a poussé à choisir "The Final Frontier".

Oui c'est bien le problème avec Jorn, sa manière de gérer son temps...
J'imagine pourtant que les meilleurs songwriters/guitarheroes se damneraient ou casseraient la tirelire pour louer ses services et sa voix fantastique...
LiveToWin de Paul Stanley est en tout cas définitivement un chouette titre !

Il avait déjà repris "Naked City" de l'album Unmasked.
En revanche, Stormbringer il l'avait déjà reprise sur "Lonely are the brave"...

Et un détail que je n'avais pas capté : Trond Holter, le guitariste à l'origine de "Dracula: Swing of Death" sur lequel chante Jorn, fait également partie de son groupe depuis quelques années.

J'ai hésité avant de cliquer sur celle-ci parce que s'attaquer à un tel morceau en mode métal voilà quoi...
Sans être exceptionnel, le résultat est honorable.

Je trouve cette reprise vraiment pas mal Un léger manque de feeling dans le solo, quand même, mais c'était à mon avis inévitable tellement l'original est inégalable.

La reprise de Kate Bush est quant à elle méconnaissable, ils ont juste gardé la mélodie, mais du coup c'est la plus réussie de ce qui a été posté pour moi.

Par contre cette reprise est assez moyenne je trouve, trop facile sans doute...
