Long-running UK progressive rockers MAGNUM have been busy at Mad Hat's Studio working on their new album, The Visitation.

Magnum's songs have captivated their audience and lose none of their fascination, even after repeated listens. "I'd even say that many of our songs reveal all their strong points only after you've heard them a few times," guitarist/songwriter/producer Tony Clarkin explains, adding: "Our brand-new compositions in particular feature a large number of harmony and rhythm changes, I feel they should definitely be heard a few times so you can discover their many details." Clarkin is referring to the latest Magnum release, The Visitation, due out on Steamhammer/SPV in Europe on the following dates:

Germany/Austria/Switzerland - January 14th
Europe - January 17th
USA/Canada - January 25th

The five Magnum members, Tony Clarkin (guitars) , Bob Catley (vocals), Mark Stanway (keyboards), Al Barrow (bass) and Harry James (drums), have invested all their passion, skill and great experience to come up with an optimum result. "I feel we haven't brought out one really weak album, yet none of our previous recordings featured a better production than The Visitation Clarkin announces proudly. "This release sounds more rock-oriented and at the same time more personal than anything we've recorded so far, and it definitely features the widest range of stylistic directions and atmospheres. What makes it so special is the fact that the music's arrangements match the atmosphere and the lyrics' statements. Every cog turns perfectly within the wheelwork."

Magnum prove repeatedly on The Visitation that their lyrics are anything but superficial or mediocre: 'Mother Nature's Final Dance' has the musicians decry the destructive way we treat our environment. "Just look at what's going on in the world at the moment, toxic red mud polluting a whole village in Hungary, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico - terrible. It's always a mix of greed and lack of responsibility which leads to these kinds of tragedies."

The rock number 'Freedom Day', a kind of paean of praise to self-determination, is equally profound. Clarkin: "We live in freedom in Europe, but looking at a lot of South-American or African countries, you see oppression, you see people living under the brutal reign of a dictator. That's why we say: let's fight for freedom."

The cover artwork, which was again created by graphic designer Rodney Matthews, reflects the lyrics of 'Door To Nowhere', which has Magnum look back at their own childhood. It would hardly be possible for a track to be more typical of this band than this number with its dynamic guitar parts, gritty arrangements and charismatic vocals. The Visitation will be available in four different formats: as a standard version (see the cover in yellow), in a limited-edition DigiPak featuring a bonus DVD (the black cover), as double gatefold coloured vinyl (the black cover) and for download. Starting early March 2011, Magnum will embark on a two-month European tour which will see the band present, along with songs from The Visitation and popular classics, tracks which haven't featured on their live playlist for a number of years. So the party is about to begin!

je l'ai pris en digipack avec le bonus DVD avec les 5 titres live du high voltage.
pas encore bien digéré l'album. Je me suis maté le DVD, le son est étonnament bon...

(ça a du être repiqué en studio ça).
Filmé de manière normale (parce qu'il n'y a que 5 caméras), ce qui est appréciable, marre d'avoir 4 plans/secondes sur les DVD live, ça me fait mal au crâne et ça me donne envie de gerber.

Le groupe anglais sort en novembre un disque de réenregistrements partiels de chansons des 10 dernières années, bizarre :

Hugely influential British melodic hard rock group MAGNUM will release its new album, "Evolution", in Europe on November 14 via Steamhammer/SPV. The set will come in a high-value ecol book.

MAGNUM's lineup of guitarist/songwriter/producer Tony Clarkin, vocalist Bob Catley, keyboard player Mark Stanway, bassist Al Barrow and drummer Harry James excelled itself on "Evolution", which is described in a press release as "one of the strongest and most unusual best of albums in [MAGNUM's] illustrious (near-40-year) history to date."

"Evolution" contains partially re-recorded and fully remixed versions of eight songs from MAGNUM's previous albums, including two tracks from MAGNUM's acclaimed "The Visitation" album (which cracked the Top 20 in Germany and made it to No. 3 on the U.K. Rock chart) and two newly recorded songs.

On m'a passé le cd hier soir, et j'ai donc écouter en venant au boulot. Et franchement c'est bien bonnard quoi...

Je connaissais de nom et avais juste entendu une fois sur le sampler de Rock Hard.
Après j'ai aucuns points de comparaison car je connais aucuns de leurs autres albums. Mais j'ai beaucoup aimé celui la en tout cas, je vais me penché un peu sur le reste, si vous avez des conseils?

Si tu as l'occasion, surtout vas les voir en concert, ça dépote !

Je connais moi-même encore mal leur discographie étant donné que je m'y suis mis récemment, mais j'avais découvert avec le live "The Last Dance" (1996), qui n'est pas mal du tout.

Côté studio, je dirais que tu peux commencer par piocher dans "Chase The Dragon" (1982), "The Eleventh Hour" (1983) et "On A Storyteller's Night" (1985).

personnellement je suis plutôt fan des albums a partir de On a Storyteller's Night(1985); j'adore Vigilante(1986),Wings of Heaven(1988) et Goodnight LA(1990). Mais il faut dire que je suis sensible a tout ce qui est hard fm et AOR.

"Tony, Harry & Al have been in the studio today putting down bv's and drum tracks for the new album. Today was very "balls to the wall rocker tune". (Working title). Bob is away on tour with Avantasia right now giving us the chance to get other stuff sorted ready for his return. We do have a working title for the album which we hope to tell you real soon. Also- new artwork by Rodney Matthews again is being worked on as we speak. We hope to bring you some updates on that soon also. Quelle diarhée créatrice! C'est déjà leur 7eme album depuis leur retour en 2002.Et je n'ai toujours pas écouté un seul de ces 7 albums.

Merde alors,d'habitude quand je fais une remarque sur un groupe, ça part en pugilat dans les 2 heures qui suivent, mais là rien.

C'est peut être parce que Magnum-vu que c'est un bon groupe-n'intéresse pas grand monde ici.

ils n'ont pas le temps,ils sont trop occupés a écouté le dernier Megadeth en boucle...

Tiens,il faudrait que je l'ecoute aussi, un pote m'a dit qu'il etait bien.

Pffffff Megadeth ne vaut plus la peine depuis Countdown (à part quelques titres sur Youthanasia et sur Risk)

C'est sans doute parce qu'on avait oublié que tu as le monopole du bon goût.

Sinon moi aussi j'aime bien Magnum, enfin sans me considérer comme un fan, je les ai vus en concert mais comme toi je n'ai rien écouté des X derniers albums.

Je connais pas beaucoup, mais j'ai adoré le dernier en date et ça me presse d'écouter ça!

et bien moi je les ai achetés leurs derniers albums et c'est bien plaisant!

Ils arrivent encore à faire des albums homogènes, avec de bonnes compos, aucune mauvaise, mais aucune exceptionnelle en revanche. De bons hymnes sur les refrains, des riffs sympas, de belles mélodies, bref pour ceux qui aiment le groupe ça vaut le coup.
En live, ils assurent toujours en plus!

pareil, j'en ai quelques un des derniers... plaisant c'est le mot... le meilleur à mes oreilles c'est "Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow" (2007) la dernière baffe de Bob Catley par contre c'est surtout son album solo "Immortal" (2008) que j'ai trouvé très bon!il était vraiment dans une très bonne période sur ses années là... les derniers sont moins marquants mais reste ... plaisant

Les hard rockeurs de MAGNUM ont nommés leur nouvel opus Escape From The Shadow Garden. Dix-neuvième album studio du combo, celui-ci sortira le 24 mars (le lendemain en Amérique du Nord) via Steamhammer/SPV. L’artwork de ce nouvel album a été dévoilé.

Je reconnais tout de suite l'artiste qui a fait la pochette, c'est le même que celui qui fait les pochettes de Tygers of Pan Tang et Praying Mantis (depuis au moins 30 ans d'ailleurs), son nom m'échappe pour le moment.
