En raison de la pandémie, selon eux... mais aussi probablement de leur propre inactivité.
British alternative rock masters ANATHEMA have announced plans to "go on an indefinite hiatus" as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping the globe.
The band broke the news of its upcoming inactivity in a social media post on Tuesday (September 22). They wrote: "Dear ANATHEMA family, this year is one like no others. We've all — every one of you included — faced unpredictable challenges, which impacted both our professional and personal situations. in this hardest of times, events over this year have left us with no option but to go on an indefinite hiatus. As individuals, it is now time to pursue other paths in life.
"We are beyond grateful for everyone's support over the years. There is no end to the love and respect we have for our fans for giving us the best years of our lives. The generosity you all showed following the unexpected cancellation of our tour will always stay with us.
"We could never have anticipated how this year would turn out.
"Many, many thanks. ANATHEMA".

En effet une page qui se tourne, car qu'on aime ou pas leur orientation plus accessible du 21ème siècle, ça reste un des groupes majeurs dans les registres "sombres" du metal, rien que pour la décennie 90's.

accessible, accessible, ennuyeux et emmerdant oui! et c'est pas faute de les avoir tous achetés
, nan depuis Judgment, il faut aller du côté d'Antimatter pour retrouver la bonne vibe bien dépressive

Beh moi ça me rend un peu triste cette "séparation" car j'étais bien fan des derniers albums, d'autant plus qu'ils ont marqué certains moments de ma vie... Mais je préfère amplement voir un groupe stopper toute activité plutôt que de continuer et sortir du moyen...

C'est bien dommage, car même si je considère Alternative 4 comme le summum qu'Anathema avait atteint, j'appréciais énormément leur discographie plus récente

Je suis d'accord pour "Alternative 4", quel album... Mais jusqu'à "Judgement" ça reste très très bon. Et puis après ils se sont calmés, ils sont devenus plus introspectifs... Et si certains de leurs albums à partir des années 2000 sont assez chiants, d'autres valent quand même le coup dans le trip calme. "A natural disaster" est vraiment réussi, et "We are here because we are here" n'est pas dégueu. Faudrait que je réecoute "Weather systems" tiens.
Par contre leurs albums lives depuis une quinzaine d'années sont soporifiques...

"Weather Systems" est très bien, bien loin ce qu'ils ont pu faire auparavant, mais très "lumineux", un album à écouter lorsque la pluie cesse et que le soleil revient
J'accroche un peu moins au successeur, à savoir "Distant Satellites", par contre j'avais bien aimé "The Optimist" !
Finalement j'ai eu la chance de les voir sur Rennes le 09 mars de cette année juste avant l'annulation de toutes la tournée le 11 mars ...

Daniel Cavanagh a tenté de se suicider.
Sa situation psychologique est apparemment critique depuis au moins 2 ans voire plus, ce qui pourrait peut-être expliquer en partie le split du groupe.
"We want to let you know that unfortunately life has been very tough on one of our band members, Dan, in the last two years, and He has attempted suicide. He has has been under a chronic and profound depression for years."
"He survived the suicide attempt and is getting better. It’s a miracle he survived the last two years at all. He never left the house for a year, and contrary to theories, he was never institutionalised in any way and has never in his life had contact from the police, or the psychiatric services.
"Dan is a reasonably decent human being who seems to have become lost. Hasn’t been himself at all for years. He did go voluntarily to hospital once for a few days, to avoid the ability to commit suicide, but apparently the NHS facility was even more depressing. The NHS need help and we are pledging 10% of our GoFundMe to the mind charity.
"We are now working to bring something good to the world and Dan wants to improve as a human being and be a better man, and never do anything so stupid again. His doctor is also trying his best to prevent suicide happening again.
"He is under professional mental health care and is very dedicated to 12 step of addiction recovery, of which he is very active. Dan has been diagnosed with profound depression, daily chronic horrific anxiety, complex post traumatic stress disorder for 25 - 30 years, and he has ADHD. He has not been himself at all for 4 years now, at least.
"Many of you share this type of struggle. Maybe music is part of healing. Hard lessons have been well learned. This was the hardest. Lessons were learned. Maybe that’s why we have hard times.
"We wish Dan a good recovery. Obviously we were not sure if posting this was a good idea, but the truth is the truth, and perhaps it’s time you heard it.
"We truly hope all of you, every single one of you without exception, live happy and blessed lives. Yours in healing."

Je ne suis pas certain que ça explique entièrement le split, car il me semble qu'Anathema a communiqué très tôt - en somme dès le début du covid - sur le fait de mettre le groupe en stand-by (difficultés financières mises en avant). Mais d'un autre côté c'est sûr qu'avec le compositeur principal en détresse psychologique ça justifie totalement ce stand-by
J'espère que Daniel s'en remettra !
