Frontiers Music Srl announces the return of Sweet Oblivion, the musical project centered around revered vocalist Geoff Tate. The new album, Relentless, is produced by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Archon Angel, Timo Tolkii's Avalon) and will be released on April 9. Today, fans can get their first taste of the album with the release of the single "Strong Pressure". Watch a lyric video below:

Relentless is the sophomore album from Sweet Oblivion, which showcases former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate. Conceived, overseen, and A&R'ed by Serafino Perugino, President and A&R director of Frontiers Records, the project sees Tate returning to a musical style he is revered for. The self-titled debut album caused quite a stir in the international hard rock and metal scene since it brought Tate back to a musical landscape akin to the sound of the stone cold classic metal albums he released with Queensrÿche during the ‘80s. But what made the album work so well was that instead of being a simple throwback, other different musical influences were thrown into the mix, allowing fans to hear Tate in a simultaneously familiar and new musical setting.
While the production and main songwriting on the previous record were handled by Simone Mularoni of DGM, this time the production was instead handled by his fellow Italian metal maestro Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Archon Angel).
Not only does Aldo have producution and songwriting credits on the album, he also features on guitar. Other musicians appearing on the album include Michele Sanna on drums, Luigi Andreone on bass, and Antonio Agate on keyboards.
This time around, Tate is more involved in the songwriting and asked Aldo to draft a very special song for him, which he would ultimately sing in Italian. The song, 'Aria', also features guitars from Walter Cianciusi and Dario Parente, who are now in the Operation: Mindcrime live band with Tate.
"I have been spending more and more time in Italy over the last few years and the people and culture have captured my heart. I truly enjoyed working with my Italian counterparts to create this classic metal album," says Tate.
Musically, this album showcases the great songwriting and performing talents of Tate, Lonobile and his cast of musicians and also marks a very welcomed return for Tate to a style that he made famous along with his former band.
Fans of Tate’s work in Queensryche’s early days and of the previous Sweet Oblivion record will not want to miss this.

Strong Pressure est sans intérêt pour moi, les deux autres titres sont nettement plus sympas mais auraient mérités une prod plus ambitieuse.
Accessoirement je trouve ridicule la mention "feat Geoff Tate" accompagnant le nom du groupe. Il a un ego si gros que ça ?

C'est essentiellement un argument de vente du label.

Je ne suis pas sûr que ce soit vraiment utile, que Tate soit présent et participe ça se sait très vite, c'est quand même une figure connue.

Je viens de survoler le début de l'album est j'adore. La prod est fabuleuse et Tate sonne d'enfer. C'est pas ultra original. Mais peu importe ça le fait, vraiment.To be continued.

De très loin ce que Tate a proposé de plus cohérent avec son glorieux (sniff) passé. Une autre direction, cette fois ci peut être la bonne.

Alors pour moi c'est tout le contraire, à écouter le dernier titre posté il n'y a rien qui va ou presque !
-les arrangements on dirait que chacun a apporté son truc sans vision d'ensemble. C'est particulièrement clair au niveau des couplets entre la basse et la gratte sèche qui ne sont pas du tout harmonieuses.
-le riff d'intro repris pour le refrain est chouette, le problème c'est que Tate prend une voix beaucoup trop douce et du coup ça fait déséquilibré. J'attendais nettement plus de coffre.
Quand on se repasse "I Don't Believe in Love" juste avant c'est dur.

Si on se repasse la discographie de Queensrÿche jusqu'à Promised Land évidemment on n'est pas sur la même planète je pense quand même que Tate fait de son mieux et ça sonne pas mal (pas renversant) mais très agréable. Je suis beaucoup moins réceptif aux 2 derniers albums du 'nouveau' Queensrÿche. Curieux. Nostalgie, nostalgie, je m'accroche à ce timbre de voix qui m'a si souvent transporté. (alors peut être moins objectif et indulgent...).

Ah par contre je ne jugerai absolument pas de la bonne volonté de Tate.
Décidément on a pas les mêmes goûts. Du "nouveau" Queensrÿche The Verdict m'a bien plu, j'ai d'ailleurs été déçu quand je les ai vu à l'Alcatraz 2019 car il n'en ont joué qu'un seul titre (Light-Years).
