Andy Kuntz, vocalist for German prog metallers, has checked in with the following update:

“Dear friends, fans, and everyone out there celebrating so well the tour with us or waiting for VP somewhere. It’s very difficult for me to publish these words representative for Vanden Plas. After we’ve stuck together through thick and thin for almost 40 shows with our close-knit VP group, it finally hit me shortly before the end, at the climax of the tour with our successful home game and the headline show at PP Europe.

The virus currently circulating is not only unpleasant, but also hard to cope with and dangerous for a singer. I felt excellent after the last two shows mentioned, full of energy and vocally at my best – but during the week, fever and body aches crept into my body. I’ve done everything I can to get better – the day before yesterday in the emergency room, yesterday, and again today at a general practitioner and a specialist. Everyone vehemently advised me not to sing this part of the tour 10.-13th of October – St. Maurice, Grenoble, Marseille and Lyon, so as not to damage my voice.

The infection that’s currently spreading shouldn’t be underestimated. It weakens the body immensely and then becomes inflammatory – that’s the beginning of this phase for me!

I would have gladly endured the strain and physical discomfort for you, but I can’t and shouldn’t risk damaging my voice. I now have an immense responsibility, and I certainly don’t want to offend, upset, or disappoint anyone. These factors make the situation feel truly unspeakably bad.

Nevertheless, even though it’s difficult for me, we have to make a decission and think wisely about the future.

Please understand, but this very special leg of the tour for me – I love this part of France a lot – unfortunately has to be canceled due to the circumstances. We’ll definitely see each other again, healthy and happy, to celebrate life and music in Paris at the latest show of the tour.”
