UFO have been operating with their strongest line-up in years since the release of their 2004 studio album, You Are Here. The three original band members, Phil Mogg (vocals), Pete Way (bass) and Paul Raymond (keyboards), were joined by Jason Bonham just over a year ago. Bonham, son of the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham, already earned gold as a songwriter and drummer with his own band in 1990. Having played with Paul Rodgers (ex-Free, Bad Company), Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Ritchie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Jeff Beck, he was enlisted by the three Zeppelin survivors, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, for a tribute show to celebrate their record company’s anniversary. UFO are Bonham’s latest musical challenge and live up to his powerful drum style. The current UFO line-up is rounded off by the exceptional guitarist, Vinnie Moore. The American is a guitar hero in the classic sense: his intricate style, a successful mix of rock, progressive elements, blues and fusion, delighted mass audiences on his 1987 solo debut Mind´s Eye. Moore, who was discovered by Mike Varney’s talent works, Shrapnel Records, sold over 100,000 copies of Mind´s Eye. Six more solo albums have followed, and his guest appearance on Alice Cooper’s Hey Stoopid in the early Nineties caused an international stir. Playing with UFO, he has come face to face with his own idols.

UFO’s success story began in 1969, when Phil Mogg and Pete Way formed the band in England. They borrowed their name from a legendary London music club, impressed audiences with their unmistakable style even in the early Seventies and proved with their albums UFO 1, Flying and UFO Live that they had their finger on the pulse of their rapidly growing fan community. Phenomenon (1974), Force It (1975) and No Heavy Pettin’ (1976), which arrived in succession, marked their international breakthrough. 1979 saw the arrival of their live recording, Strangers In The Night, referred to as one of the best live albums by experts, and one of the best-selling live cuts of all time. Following years with changing line-ups, the band returned to the top in autumn 1993 with their comeback recording, Walk On Water, and have been among the strongest live acts world-wide ever since, releasing two more awesome studio offerings in Covenant (2000) and Sharks (2002). The current line-up consisting of Mogg, Way, Raymond, Bonham & Moore released their most recent cut, You Are Here, in 2004, voted among the ten best albums ever by the British music magazine, Classic Rock.

Je ne l'ai pas acheté par contre, même si j'apprécie vraiment les 2 derniers albums d'UFO avec Vinnie Moore

Ben je l'ai commandé sur Amazon. J'ai rien de récent de UFO, un petit live peut pas faire de mal.

Ben le truc, c'est que j'ai absolument aucune idée de ce que ça peut donner. Je pourrai juste donner mon avis de gars qui adore ce que UFO a fait dans les années 70... si ça se trouve, je vais trouver ça génial alors que c'est daubique, ou l'inverse...
C'est simple, j'ai même pas encore regardé le track listing...

Bah ça tombe bien, c'est aussi la période que je connais le mieux !

Apparemment y'a quand même bien les classics, donc ça devrait aller !

C'est simple, j'ai même pas encore regardé le track listing...

En gros il y a plein de classiques des 70's (déjà présents sur "Strangers in the Night") ainsi que des titres de "You Are Here" (2004), plus une paire de titres plus ou moins récents.

Mmm je me méfie de ces DVDs "critical review" ou "music in review", j'en ai pas souvent lu du bien, et ça m'a l'air de contenir plus souvent des interviews creuses que du live de qualité. A vérifier quand même.

Il est très très bien ce live !! Sur 16 morceaux, il y en a 11 qui figuraient déjà sur le live Strangers In The Night de 1978, donc déjà, c'est gage de qualité.
Le chant est plus aussi top qu'à l'époque, mais on lui en voudra pas. Je trouve ça aussi moins énervé, mais bon, le chanteur et la session rythmique tiennent le barre de ce groupe depuis presque 40 ans, ça se comprend un peu.

Un signe de redondance aussi !
J'avais pas fait gaffe qu'il y avait autant de doublons en fait... J'hésite à le choper du coup...

Sans compter que la plupart de ces morceaux sont aussi sur leurs autres live d'après ce que j'ai vu.

Vinnie Moore est absolument génial,( ça me fait d'autant plus regreter l'annulation pour cause d'intempéries aux gods en 2004 );
Le dvd bonus commence plutôt bien, avec UFO en studio accompagné d'un ensemble à cordes sur love to love le résultat est très .

Voici une interview de Vinnie Moore où il avoue ne pas être totalement satisfait de ce DVD, pas leur meilleur concert ni le meilleur enregistrement d'après lui :

Sleaze Roxx has issued an interview with UFO guitarist VINNIE MOORE. The following is an excerpt:

Q: I have to add that the DVD you guys released Showtime is phenomenal and one of the gems in my collection. What are your thoughts on the DVD? And is there a chance that we might see one with more material from the Vinnie-era down the road?

A: "There's no plan at the moment to do another DVD but I think it's a good idea to do something with more current material though. I think we should do another one actually. As for the Showtime DVD, as an artist we get kind of picky. I personally don't think that it was our strongest show. We had done better shows than that, but we had problems with electricity that night. I don't know, I feel little bit critical about it... the way it was shot... I felt like there was a detachment from it. It might have had something to do with the way they mixed it or something. I think it was cool to get a DVD out there, but I do think that up to that point we had done better shows on that tour."
