Velvet Revolver To Make New Album 'A Little More Danceable'
Scott Weiland has found himself another band, reposts Blabbermouth. Speaking to ABC News Radio at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party last week, Weiland's Velvet Revolver bandmate Matt Sorum said that the singer is being added to Sorum's all-star cover band Camp Freddy. He'll be joining a permanent line-up that already includes Sorum, Dave Navarro, Donovan Leitch, Billy Morrison and Chris Chaney. Camp Freddy are also known for the revolving cast of superstar guests that joins them on stage at their live shows.
"Weiland loves it, man. He comes and plays with us, and we do Bowie, and we, you know, he does some Iggy Pop maybe, whatever he wants to do. And he has the best time because it's not stressful at all. There's no real, like, corporate thing behind it. And it's not like you have to come up with the goods -- you just do it, you know," says Sorum.
Also he says that the band are hoping to finally release their debut album next summer. Macy Gray, Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) have already recorded guest spots, and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) has been asked to participate.
During the same interview, Sorum revealed that Velvet Revolver are planning to move in a different direction on their new album, which has the working title of "Libertad."
"Our first album was very aggressive and just in-your-face. and we made it very quickly," he explained. "And this album we just really want to, like, you know, we want to pull it back a bit, groove a little harder, make it a little more danceable. We've talked about working with people like pop superstar Pharrell Williams just for the... just to check it out. I mean, it's not rock and roll, but it might be different. Who knows?! I don't know."

ça sent pas bon pour les Velvet...
Weiland va t il reformer les STP ?
UK's Classic Rock magazine has tracked down VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan and quizzed him about VR singer Scott Weiland's absence from the group's performance at the Sundance Film Festival and the rumors of a reunion of Weiland's previous band, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.
On the Sundance Film Festival:
"I sang 'It's So Easy' and 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' and then we were panicking a bit over what to play so [VR drummer] Matt [Sorum] got up and sang 'Patience', Matt's a great singer, he really is. Why wasn't Scott there? Scott missed his plane. Yeah, let's say that, Scott missed his plane…"
On STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reforming:
"That’s the rumor that I've heard too. Good for him. You can't plan ahead in this thing and if you do, you're going to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love playing live and we love this band, but I don't have expectations any more. This is a great band and I'm proud to be a part of it, but it doesn't define me anymore."
Although there has been no official confirmation from anyone involved, Weiland told the Miami Herald over the weekend to be on the lookout for a STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunion in the months ahead. The band members are reportedly on good terms again after their less than friendly break-up in 2002, and Weiland told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he wouldn't rule out getting back together. "I think that there is always that distinct possibility," he said. "I have to say it would never come in the way of VELVET REVOLVER, but I don't think that the story has been completely told. I'm unhappy with the ending of the story."
Weiland made his comments at an all-star gala event benefiting the AROD Family Foundation, on Saturday (January 19) at the Ritz Carlton hotel in South Beach, Florida.

Et en effet ca sentait pas bon !
VELVET REVOLVER founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today (Tuesday, April 1) that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland. "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash in a press release. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."
Slash hinted in a recent interview that the band might carry on without Weiland, who announced onstage in Glasgow two weeks ago that fans were watching the "last tour" by the group. Weiland and drummer Matt Sorum proceeded to get into a public war of words online, fueling speculation that the band was splitting apart. But Slash told Classic Rock magazine, "Obviously I'm very aware of everything that's going on. The only thing I can add to that is, in contrast to what Scott says, there will be a VELVET REVOLVER after this tour." When asked if Weiland would continue as the singer, Slash added with a chuckle, "I have no comment on that."
Weiland is reuniting with his previous outfit, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, which broke up in 2002. The group has scheduled a press conference in Los Angeles for April 7 where it will announce a full tour of 50 or more dates for the summer and fall in addition to the handful of festival shows already confirmed.
Weiland spent a month in rehab recently, following an arrest for driving under the influence last November and his failure to show up for a VELVET REVOLVER gig at the Sundance Festival in January.
Despite the latest turmoil, bassist Duff McKagan told the U.K.'s Journal Live recently, "VELVET REVOLVER is something that's going to be around for a long while yet."

Si quelqu'un veut postuler !
VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has told Christa Titus of Billboard.com that the band is creating a web site to audition singers. The new site will help VELVET REVOLVER replace Scott Weiland, whose April 1 dismissal from the band continued the public feud between the ex-frontman and his former bandmates.
"The band is actually talking about actually building a Web site [and] doing some auditions via that, so that's been something that's developing at this point," Slash explains, noting that it should be happening "in the next month or so."

Nouvelle rumeur ! On parle maintenant de Lenny Kravitz pour occuper le poste de chanteur!
According to the UK's The Sun, Lenny Kravitz is the latest rocker to be rumored for the singer position in VELVET REVOLVER. Kravitz has supposedly been "spotted" in the studio with the band although there is virtually no evidence to suggest that he has been officially chosen to replace Scott Weiland, who left VELVET REVOLVER in April.
A source told The Sun: "VELVET REVOLVER's new album will draw heavily on their messy split with Scott. The band wanted a big name who could easily hold his own and reckon Lenny is just the man for the job."
VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan told Billboard.com last week that the band has not decided on a new lead singer yet, and reports that former SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon had all but nailed the job are premature. McKagan confirmed that the group did audition Langdon, saying he's "fucking awesome," but adding that "at this point I'd have to say no" to Langdon getting the gig. McKagan explained, "We just have to make sure it's the right guy. Karmically, we deserve the right guy. It's a tough thing, man. We make a pretty big noise."
McKagan also said that Scott Weiland's angry public comments in the wake of his dismissal from the group last April has brought the remaining members of the band — McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum, and guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner — closer together.
Even without a singer in place, VELVET REVOLVER is working on material for its third studio album, with McKagan revealing, "We have a bunch of stuff finished. It's great. It's killer. We started getting really productive when a ton of drama started happening on the road. It was like our safe place to go to. Sometimes that's how you get some feelings out."

Toujours à la recherche d'un chanteur !
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has commenced recording his debut solo album with Josh Freese (A PERFECT CIRCLE, NINE INCH NAILS) on drums, Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) on bass, and Eric Valentine (SMASH MOUTH, THIRD EYE BLIND, GOOD CHARLOTTE) in the producer's chair. Slash says, "Things are going fantastic in the studio, Josh Freese and Chris Chaney are one hell of a rhythm machine and the guitar sound is FAT! Fucking Awesome Tone! All is going perfect so far. We start recording vocals today and I'm really excited about working with this particular individual; it's going to be quite an event."
According to Slash, VELVET REVOLVER is still searching for a replacement for singer Scott Weiland, who was dismissed last April. He says, "There was a lot of talk about our announcing a new singer in March but it obviously didn't happen. We had somebody that we thought was a really good candidate, but it just wasn't meant to be. So, we're still looking. [As for possible VELVET REVOLVER live shows], of course VR is going to tour again, we just have to find the right person to front the band. We have a bunch of new material and we're all anxious to get going, but the key ingredient for a rock n' roll band such as VR is an amazing frontman, and we haven't found the right man for the job, yet."
Regarding which singers will guest on his upcoming CD, Slash previously said, "Unfortunately, I can't divulge that info yet, but you'll know soon enough. I will say, however, that they are fantastically talented songwriters who it's been an honor to work and write with, to say the least."
Slash's wife Perla Hudson said in a video interview at Rockerrazzi.com that both Ozzy Osbourne and Fergie will make guest appearances on her husband's upcoming solo album.
Slash will be joined by BLACK SABBATH legend Ozzy Osbourne for the axeman's headlining appearance at this year's edition of the Quart festival, set to take place June 30 - July 4, 2009 in Kristiansand, Norway. Slash will perform a mixture of old and new material on the festival's opening day.
Slash previously played with Ozzy at the 77th Royal Variety Performance in November 2005 in Cardiff. They performed a version of THE BEATLES classic "In My Life", with family photographs projected onto the background of the stage.
Slash left GUNS N' ROSES in the mid-'90s, forming SLASH'S SNAKEPIT before later assembling VELVET REVOLVER with several other ex-members of GUNS N' ROSES and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland.

Réactivation du groupe?
The Toronto Sun reports: JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro has hinted one-time bandmate Duff McKagan's departure is linked to a VELVET REVOLVER rebirth.
The bassist quit the band at the beginning of September after just five months and three shows, and Navarro insists his band's loss is the gain of Slash's supergroup, which has been on hiatus since Scott Weiland was sacked as frontman in 2008.
But Navarro insists Velvet Revolver could be about to make a comeback.
He tells Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM, "Duff was with us for a little while. We wrote some songs with him, did a handful of shows... It was great; he's an amazing writer and an amazing player.
"At the end of the day, I think his band, Velvet Revolver, is trying to get their thing back together and they're auditioning singers (again)."
And the guitarist assures fans the departure of two bass players in six months won't mean the end of Jane's Addiction: "As far as a bass player, we don't really have anybody right now in mind. The three of us - Perry (Farrell), Stephen (Perkins) and myself - are writing and hashing out the songs."

According to the Toronto Sun, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland has admitted his heart was never in supergroup VELVET REVOLVER, insisting money was his real motivation for joining the band.
Weiland was invited to join ex-GUNS N' ROSES members Slash and Duff McKagan as the frontman of their new group in 2003, but initially had reservations after he was left unimpressed by the sample tracks he was sent.
But in his new tell-all book, Not Dead And Not For Sale: A Memoir, Weiland reveals it was McKagan’s talk of lucrative pay cheques which tempted him to join.
He writes, “They put some songs on a CD and my wife said, ’They think you’ll like what they’re doing.’ I didn’t it sounded like BAD COMPANY and I never liked Bad Company. A week or so later another CD arrived with songs custom-designed for me.
“I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to hook up with these guys. Duff said, ’There’s soundtrack stuff we’ve been asked to do, and the money’s great.’ The money attracted me.
“I can’t call it the music of my soul. There was a certain commercial calculation behind it.”
Velvet Revolver is still on hiatus after Weiland was fired from the group in 2009.
Not Dead & Not For Sale: A Memoir, is being released today (May 17th) via publisher Scribner.
Scott Weiland will be signing copies of the book today at Barnes & Noble - Union Square in New York City, NY at 7:00 PM.
