Heavy metal group Them, featuring Symphony X’s Mike Lepond on bass, and Suffocations’s Kevin Talley on drums, are streaming their debut single, “Forever Burns”. A lyric video for the track can be found below.
The band’s debut album, Sweet Hollow, is a chilling concept album that features Mike LePond and Kevin Talley, along with guitarist Markus Ullrich (Lanfear), guitarist Markus Johansson (Sylencer), keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear), and vocalist Troy Norr ("KK Fossor") of Cold Steel.

Them (horror heavy metal, USA / Allemagne)
Thrash metal meets horror/fantasy story, part III: their latest album Return To Hemmersmoor sees German-American act Them present the third part of a trilogy that was launched back in 2016 on Sweet Hollow and continued in 2018 with Manor Of The Se7en Gables.
Return To Hemmersmoor takes up where the thematic thread of its two predecessors left off and brings the story to a gripping finale, documenting at the same time the band’s unmistakable musical evolvement. “Possibly the new material is a little tougher and more uncompromising,” guitarist Markus Ullrich compares the three recordings. “Being directly involved, we’re too close to really be able to judge. Fact is: the album definitely sounds more mature, which certainly has to do with the songwriting as well as with our general approach. From the start, Them have worked in a very focussed manner according to a definite plan. For that kind of targeted strategy you really need the right line-up consisting of accomplished musicians that are one hundred per cent behind the concept. Them totally fulfils all those conditions.”
Ullrich is referring to his colleagues, vocalist KK Fossor, guitarist Markus Johansson (Sylencer, 4ARM), drummer Angel Cotte (Demolition Hammer), bassist Alexander Palma, and keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear, Ivanhoe). Although the band members live on two continents (Fossor, Johansson and Cotte in the US, Ullrich, Palma and Seibel in Germany), Them play and work together as a tight unit. When guitarists Ullrich and Johannson collaborate on compositions, frontman Fossor translates their inspirations into skilfully worded melodies and lyrics, the rhythm section puts the pedal to the metal and expansive keyboard sounds lend the songs their special atmosphere, Them are at their preferred operating temperature, which frequently culminates in breathtaking results such as Return To Hemmersmoor.
No doubt about it: Them’s new album Return To Hemmersmoor is an impressive release. The group’s diverse songwriting with its well thought-out story, the band members’ accomplished technical skills and the modern production, mixed again by Dave Otero at the Flatline Audio studio in Denver, have culminated in a haunting thrash metal opus. On the one hand, the album lives up to the rôle models of the Bay Area scene, on the other hand - thanks to clever references to US power metal and the band’s typical ingredients - it leaves an unmistakable and characteristic fingerprint. It would hardly be possible to pay the band and its new album a greater compliment.
Return To Hemmersmoor will be released as a CD DigiPak version, 2LP gatefold version, CD/LP bundle with shirt (exclusively at the Steamhammer shop), download and stream on October 30 via SPV/Steamhammer. Pre-order here.

Le groupe était à l'origine un tribute band à King Diamond, incluant des membres de... King Diamond. Mais c'est désormais un projet à part du chanteur. Déjà 3 albums, bientôt 4.

Them is back with a new single, and news of their next full-length studio effort.
With KK Fossor finally being defeated by The Crimson Corpse at the tail end of Return To Hemmersmoor, his maniacal assistant, Remsen, continues to live out his remaining days on earth always focused on his final task at hand... Remsen must continue his bloodline!
KK is now dead... Or is he? Remsen thought he had heard a bell ring as he left the gravesite.

By way of explanation: New York City was often referred to as ‘Fear City’ in the early 1980s. At that time, illegal prostitution, protection rackets and drug trafficking thrived in the city which was notorious for its high crime and violence rates. For international power metal band Them, this made the perfect setting for the continuation of their trilogy surrounding main protagonist KK Fossor.
What was set in the 19th century on their first three album releases, Sweet Hollow (2016), Manor Of The Se7en Gables (2018) and Return To Hemmersmoor (2020), is continued on Fear City, albeit with a 120-year time shift featuring descendants of the original characters.
“In a nutshell: KK Fossor is trying to find the descendant of the Witchhunter, who works as a televangelist under the name of Mister Thompson in 1981 New York,” explains Markus Ullrich, the band’s German guitarist and creative mastermind.
Fear City will be released October 28 via Steamhammer/SPV, preceded by two lead singles: Today sees the arrival of '‘Welcome To Fear City'’, supported by an amazing video clip, which can be viewed below. "Retro 54" is set to follow six weeks later on September 30.
This exciting mélange of horror and fantasy story is flanked by the usual dynamic songs mixing a hybrid of raw metal riffs, complex and frequently fast-paced grooves and surprisingly catchy chorus parts.
Markus Ullrich: “This is a special feature with Them. We play hard, technically accomplished guitar parts, combined with a solid basic toughness, yet we don’t just bark out the chorus, but sing it very melodically. Some songs on ‘Fear City’ are even heavier than expected, you could say: They really let rip! But our singer is fantastic and our songs make purposeful forays into a wide range of different stylistic directions.”
As usual, Fear City succeeds in transporting its listeners to a different, fictional world, in this case, the year 1981. “We’ve deliberately included keyboard sounds, little radio play snippets and cross-references to the 1980s,” explains Ullrich, who has first-rate musicians by his side, namely: vocalist KK Fossor, guitarist Markus Johansson (Sylencer, 4ARM), bassist Alexander Palma and keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear, Ivanhoe), and only had to enlist a new drummer in Steve Bolognese (ex-Witherfall, Into Eternity) due to the lockdown caused by the pandemic. As on the previous albums, American sound mastermind Dave Otero was in charge of the mix and drum recordings at his Flatline Audio studio in Denver, Colorado.

Them will release their new album, Psychedelic Enigma, on October 24 via Steamhammer/SPV. A lyric video for the single, “Catatonia”, can be found below.
There is a subtle arc of suspense on the new Them concept album Psychedelic Enigma. It brings to mind legendary horror movie classics: The power metal recording kicks off with extremely tough, brutal, and fast-paced numbers, spinning an enigmatic storyline around its mysterious protagonist and only revealing his secret. This technique is similar to the blockbusters The Others (featuring Nicole Kidman) or The Sixth Sense (featuring Bruce Willis) — where the grand finale is nothing short of epic.
The content picks up where its predecessors — Sweet Hollow (2016), Manor Of The Se7en Gables (2018), Return To Hemmersmoor (2020), and Fear City (2022) — have left off but with just as much musical power.
“Psychedelic Enigma not only includes some of the rawest and most fast-paced tracks of our career to date, but also a number of sound experiments and technical masterpieces,” guitarist Markus Ullrich says. He tips his hat to legendary sound engineer Randy Burns (Megadeth, Kreator, Possessed), saying, “Randy has given our new material that ultra-aggressive sound, and when an icon like him does that kind of thing, he of course has good reasons for it.”
No doubt about it, Psychedelic Enigma sees Ullrich, vocalist KK Fossor, guitarist Markus Johansson (Sylencer, 4ARM), bassist Alexander Palma, and keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear, Ivanhoe) raise their energy level even higher.
“For us, it’s not a change in style but a conscious step towards greater dynamics and stronger extremes,” explains the band.
Psychedelic Enigma is the band’s boldest and most detailed offering to date. The album’s first single “Catatonia” is a furious number with catchy hook lines. A catatonic state which lasted 17 years is now abruptly broken.
