Due to tensions within the ranks, doom metal icons My Dying Bride have decided to cease with live activities for an indefinite period of time. More can be read in the band's statement below.

Full statement fro, the group as follows: "The production of this latest album was arduous and challenging to such an extent that it has revealed fractures within the band. These tensions had already been observed during the creation of the previous 2 albums and were only exacerbated during the Covid period. Over the past few months, they have intensified, causing a profound sense of discontent among the band members. The resulting stress and the pervasive feeling of burnout, along with the physical and mental malaise it creates, necessitated a period of time off which unfortunately impacts on live shows.

"The reason for the lack of an official statement until now is because the band has truly hoped to resolve these internal issues and perform some shows this year while trying find a resolution in time to satisfy all parties involved. Sadly, this resolution is yet to be found.

"Regrettably, a lack of understanding and poor communication from our professional partners has resulted in an untimely and chaotic mess from which a recovery is challenging. However, the promoters have now been officially contacted and it is hoped that steps can be taken to minimise the impact on you all.cWe apologise for keeping you in the dark, but these are indeed challenging times."

In a recent interview with Brazil's Headbangers News, guitarist Andrew Craighan explains situation: "I'm sorry. I really, really don't have a real answer for that. To try and give you some understanding that My Dying Bride is not a full-time band. We all have very much normal jobs and sadly that drags on our time, as you can imagine. And, obviously, it means we have to ask permission to leave work and all those kind of things. So that's one difficulty. And also the distance, because we would need more than one gig for the promoters to make it make sense and all those kinds of things. So the sad and real answer is I don't have an answer. But on the plus side on this, if there is a light at the end of this well, we do think about it. We do try, and our agent does listen to various promoters and tries to get things going. But like everybody else, we're at the mercy of how it all works and how our professional jobs keep us sort of - not necessarily held back, but it's all got to align."

He added: "I mean, we have some problems to sort out. Some people have some personal problems that we need to sort of overcome. It's not insurmountable… I know people are concerned because obviously people, they care for the band in ways that we didn't expect. But I reckon we'll be okay. Everything's a little bit messy right now. We have some things that we have to organize and iron out, let's say, but it's not insurmountable."

My Dying Bride are thrilled to announce their return to the stage in 2025. After a small "hiatus", live shows are set to recommence, featuring a very special guest on vocals - Mikko Kotamäki from Swallow The Sun.

A message states: "We warmly welcome Mikko, who has graciously joined the MDB live setup, enabling us to bring both new and classic songs back to the stage. With this year’s monumental album A Mortal Binding now well into establishing itself as a doom metal success, the band are at last ready to promote it live along with seasoned classics of course."

In late 2024, My Dying Bride announced their return to the stage in 2025, featuring a very special guest on vocals – Mikko Kotamäki from Swallow The Sun.

A message from the band revealed: “We warmly welcome Mikko, who has graciously joined the MDB live setup, enabling us to bring both new and classic songs back to the stage. With this year’s monumental album A Mortal Binding now well into establishing itself as a doom metal success, the band are at last ready to promote it live along with seasoned classics of course.”

So where is My Dying Bride singer Aaron Stainthorpe? In a new interview with Metalirium, My Dying Bride guitarist, Andrew Craighan, sheds some light on the situation.

Metalirium: Our readers are probably most keen to know about the current situation with My Dying Bride and vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe. Also, could you please tell me if Aaron will be involved in the band’s future plans?

Andrew Craighan: “As Aaron has, in truth, distanced himself from the band, we are only aware of his activities through social media and online interviews. The band contacted him in March 2025 to enquire about his intentions with My Dying Bride, but he has not responded. We first learned through social media that he was on a hiatus from MDB. Although he states online that he is still part of the band, he has not engaged with us since April 2024. So, in response to your question, the band does not know what his plans with MDB are.”

English doom metal pioneers MY DYING BRIDE have officially parted ways with vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe. The news comes less than a year after MY DYING BRIDE recruited singer Mikko Kotamäki (SWALLOW THE SUN) to front the band for its live appearances in 2025.

Earlier today (Thursday, October 9),MY DYING BRIDE released the following statement via social media: "MY DYING BRIDE have decided to part ways with vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe.

"Please understand that this decision does not come lightly, hence our initial and painful silence while we gathered our thoughts and carefully considered our response to the disengaged, eerily abandoned state we suddenly found ourselves in.

"Our collective decision to move forward without him is not something we thought we would ever be forced to say, but to ensure a continued legacy for what we hold dear to our hearts, we simply have to move past this. Whilst change can be difficult, we are doing our best to bring this new chapter forward with powerful positivity.

"MY DYING BRIDE are not on hiatus, we were never on hiatus. However, we do genuinely wish Aaron all the luck in the world in his new solo endeavours."
