Frontiers Records has announced the signing of Ralf Scheepers for the release of his first solo album.

Best known as the singer of German power metal legends PRIMAL FEAR, Ralf cut his teeth with TYRAN PACE and GAMMA RAY, the latter of which he formed alongside former HELLOWEEN guitar player Kai Hansen.

World renowned for his amazing range and high-pitched singing voice, sometimes reminiscent of JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, Scheepers finally decided to work on a solo album.

"It is definitely going to be a metal album, but I will surely explore some different sounds and ways to exploit my voice," satted Scheepers.

"I will call a few friends and guests, which will make this record a very special one, but all details will be revealed at a later stage."

The CD will be recorded during the winter 2008 under the direction of Scheepers' PRIMAL FEAR bandmate Mat Sinner, with additional input by Scheepers himself, Achim Koehler and Charlie Bauerfeind. A summer 2008 release us expected.

Les deux ça m'étonnerait un peu

Cela dit, si Ralf (est le seul PF) à écrire/composer pour cet album je pense que ce sera un peu différent de Primal Fear...

Ralf est toujours un excellent chanteur, qui a besoin d'être guidé un minimum, et s'il s'entoure de compositeurs différents que ceux avec qui il a l'habitude d'opérer (= autres que Mat Sinner ) ça pourrait donner quelque chose de sympa.
Comme ça avait été le cas par exemple pour Joacim Cans lorsqu'il a sorti son album solo, que je préfère aux derniers Hammerfall...

PRIMAL FEAR frontman Ralf Scheepers will enter a Swedish studio this
summer to begin recording his debut solo album for a January 2011
release via Frontiers Records. The CD will be tracked with the help of
Ralf's former GAMMA RAY bandmate and drummer extraordinaire Uli Kusch.
An "impressive list of some very prominent guests is already confirmed"
to appear on the as-yet-untitled album, which will feature "a killer
concept and strong songs," according to Scheepers.

Sinner donne quelques détails :

He wrote a lot of songs and he just wanted to come out and show a different side and still his metal side. It will be an interesting album with a lot of guests and a lot of nice friends appearing on this album. It will be a good album I think. We’ll actually start to do it… Uli Kusch from GAMMA RAY, MASTERPLAN… or wherever he played, HELLOWEEN (laughs), he will play the drums on this album and it will be a very interesting thing. Also, I will record a new Sinner album in the autumn, and we’ll play some festivals. I have to finish the new MICHAEL KISKE album.”

So to clarify, when is work on Ralf’s album starting?

“We start when we get back from the US. I think we will start in mid-June. I think the drums will be ready when we come back from America and we’ll collect the ideas from our friends and the guests who will appear on the album. I will play bass and produce the whole thing. Ralf will sing. The album will be out in January or February 2011.”

And stylistically? “In part it’s very metal. Very metal. So it will not be Ralf’s ballad album. There were some ballads where Ralf was showing a different kind of music, his talent in music, because he’s playing all the instruments on one song, for example. So you hear him playing guitar, keyboards, so it’s very interesting. But overall I will say it’s a very tough metal album.”

Heavier than Primal Fear?

“Part yes, part no (laughs).”

Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) will lay down the drum tracks on the first solo album from PRIMAL FEAR frontman Ralf Scheepers.

After Ralf and his collaborators spent the last three years writing material for the effort, the recording sessions for the CD will finally begin this coming weekend with PRIMAL FEAR's Mat Sinner playing bass on the entire LP and producing. An "impressive list of some very prominent guests" will appear on the as-yet-untitled album, which will feature "a killer concept and strong songs," according to Scheepers.

In a June 2010 interview with Metal Assault, Scheepers stated about the musical direction of his forthcoming solo CD, "It's more diverse [than PRIMAL FEAR], you can say."

He added, "In the beginning I had those ballads that we couldn't use for PRIMAL FEAR because they might be too mellow, but now we've started to write together on it. Basically, it's my ideas on it, but I have a great team, with Mat and Magnus [Karlsson; PRIMAL FEAR, STARBREAKER, LAST TRIBE] and some other members — Sander [Gommans], the ex-AFTER FOREVER guitarist, helped me a lot.

J'ai connu Ralf sur Heading For Tomorrow, qui est pour moi le meilleur de Gamma Ray, je vous explique même pas le choc que j'ai eu il y a à peine un mois quand j'ai appris que c'était le chanteur de Primal Fear...
C'est vraiment un super chanteur avec une voix magnifique (j'adore les voix aigües à la Rob Halford), donc je vais essayer de suivre cet album solos que j'espère plutôt mélodique avec quelques ballades. Si j'ai bien compris il y en aurait dans l'album qui étaient au départ prévu pour PF?
