The five members of the reactivated Brazilian melodic metal band ANGRA recently spoke to Roadie Crew magazine's Tony Monteiro about their new lineup, what happened during their two-year hiatus and their plans for the future. This is the first and only complete interview the band will give for the time being to announce its return.

ANGRA will be Roadie Crew magazine's exclusive cover story for the April 2009 issue.

The band's current lineup includes drummer Ricardo Confessori (SHAMAN), who returns to ANGRA following the departure of Aquiles Priester (HANGAR).

Commented guitarist Rafael Bittencout: "We had problems, and there were many things that were happening inside the ANGRA camp that we did not agree with. At the end the day, there was nothing more important than our love for music, the history of the band, the songs we wrote in the past and the songs we are going to compose in a near future, and we are back."

The band will embark on a Brazilian tour with SEPULTURA in May 2009. There are also plans for ANGRA to commence work on a new studio album.

ANGRA's video for the song "The Course of Nature" can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in early September 2006 in São Paulo under the guidance of director Carina Zaratin.

The recordings of ANGRA's most recent CD, "Aurora Consurgens", began in July 2006 at the House Of Audio studios in Germany under the guidance of longtime producer Dennis Ward. All the tracking took place at the Via Musique Estúdios, in São Paulo with Thiago Bianchi as the assistant producer. Dennis then flew back to Germany and mixed the material, which was mastered by the renowned Finnish producer Mika Jussila.

J'adore Ricardo. Bon, techniquement il est beaucoup moins bon qu'Aquiles qui est un monstre, mais il a un jeu live que j'apprécie énormément, bourré de feeling.

Enfin si j'ai décroché d'Angra depuis plusieurs albums, c'est à cause de la composition, pas du reste. Donc pour l'instant ça m'étonnerait que ça relance mon intérêt pour le groupe, puisque le problème est surtout dans le fait que Rafael et Kiko s'enfoncent de plus en plus dans le prog.

Brazilian metallers ANGRA are currently writing and rehearsing material for a new studio album which is expected to be released in the second half of 2010. The The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2006's "Aurora Consurgens" will be a conceptual effort and will include 10 songs.

Commented singer Edu Falaschi: "We are looking forward to finishing the rehearsals and to start the recording of the new album! Be prepared to hear one of the best albums in the history of ANGRA! It's secure! It will be a real masterpiece and [it will be followed by] the best tour of ANGRA! Power and quality, everything with the same magic like in the best moments of the band's history!"

Brazilian metallers ANGRA will release their seventh studio album, "Aqua" (a Latin word which means "water" in English), on September 29 via SPV/Steamhammer. A conceptual effort, the follow-up to 2006's "Aurora Consurgens" was recorded at Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brazil.

For the first time since its inception, the band self-produced the new CD, which was co-produced and mixed by Brendan Duffey and Adriano Daga from Norcal Studios, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum at Maor Appelbaum Mastering Studios in California. The art concept (see below) was created by the renowned Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes, with input from Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro.

"We [had] worked with Isabel de Amorim since the 'Fireworks' album, so we wanted to change the artistic style in this new CD and the work made by Gustavo Sazes was exactly what we were looking for," said guitarist Kiko Loureiro. "Actually, he is already our website designer and it was a natural choice."

According to a press release, "the concept and the musical atmospheres of this new record, as well as the main classics of ANGRA discography are based on a rich and involving history. The whole composition of the album was directly inspired by 'The Tempest' — the last play written by William Shakespeare and shown here through an epic vision compared to its dark side.

"We really dedicated ourselves to the last work of Shakespeare to create 'Aqua'," states guitarist Rafael Bittencourt. "Besides all the qualities of the text, we found out that the element 'water' is one of the main characters of the history. It transforms itself during the cycles and changes the things around. It represents the rage of high tides and tempests, and then the forgiveness and wisdom in calm. Everything happens after a violent storm that occurs in the sea, in an island hill. While the wild waters come from up and down, a ship and the entire crew are fighting for surviving. As from this point, we developed one very interesting narrative that will get the attention of the listeners."

"Aqua" will be issued in Japan on July 31 by JVC/Victor. In Brazil it will be self-released by the band and made available on August 17.

"We need to have a support for the international market and the SPV and JVC have always been done an excellent work related to the promotion of our last records," said vocalist Edu Falaschi. "But in Brazil we will make it different this time. It will be self-financed so that we can control everything referred to the CD."

Assez amusant, ce titre d'album, en regard du nom du groupe

Ça promet des parties de grattes chaotiques et des duels de toutes sortes

C'est vrai que le groupe devient de plus en plus progressif. Les compositions n'ont jamais été aussi complexes qu'aujourd'hui ("Aurora Consurgens", une oeuvre mécomprise), mais, la musique d'un groupe est faite pour évoluer et non pas stagner. Sinon, ce ne serait pas une partie de plaisir que d'écouter le nouvel opus de notre groupe préféré si les riffs se répétaient d'album en album. Il n'y aurait plus aucune magie ni aucun plaisir...C'est ce que, en gros, racontait le frontman de Pain Of Salvation dans le nouveau Metallian. Et je suis d'accord avec lui. Chaque album doit être un voyage différent et nous amener dans une nouvelle contrée...

Le tout est de réussir à rentrer dedans... J'aime pas le prog à la base parce que je n'aime pas me forcer à écouter un disque avant de l'apprécier.

Certes, mais, il est agréable de se laisser emporter très loin. La musique doit pouvoir procurer des "orgasmes" à la personne qui écoute ce disque. L'album doit pouvoir présenter à l'auditeur/trice les sensations ressenties lors de préliminaires.

Si tu n'aimes pas te forcer à écouter un album avant de l'apprécier, il y a peut-être une méthode qui pourrait te permettre de rentrer directement dans le vif du sujet sans pour autant laisser de côté les préliminaires : écouter un album de prog' que tu n'as pas encore découvert (surtout pas du Dream Theater, plutôt du Symphony X et autres) en faisant l'Amour avec ta femme.

C'est jouissif !!

J'ai essayée avec mon ex et, crois-moi, c'est le pied !!

De cette manière, tu navigues entre plaisir procuré par ta compagne/compagnon et plaisir apporté par la musique. Tu rentres dans le vif du sujet au niveau musical sans passer par les préliminaires et au niveau érotique, charnel, tu te laisses complètement aller, tout en ayant un contrôle sur tes sens auditifs...toujours à l'affût du moindre riff intéressant et des gémissements de ton ou ta partenaire...

C'est pas pour tout de suite alors: ma copine n'aime pas le metal et elle ne veut pas en écouter

Je sais bien qu'il y a toujours plein de raisons d'aller voir ailleurs, mais quand même pas celle d'essayer d'apprécier le metal progressif

Tu peux aussi faire ce que j'ai dit plus haut en écoutant d'autres styles de musique, ce n'est pas réservé exclusivement au metal.

Tu peux aussi tester avec du Rihanna, du Bach ou du Lorie.
