New song “Scorbutics” online; “Death…The Brutal Way” artwork!


After the stunning success of their reunion shows in 2007 the premier Dutch old school Death Metal act ASPHYX is back to release their highly anticipated new studio album “Death…The Brutal Way” on June 22nd, 2009 in Europe!

Today, the band can proudly unveil the cover artwork for “Death…The Brutal Way” created by Mick Koopman (Hail Of Bullets, Dead Head, etc.) and also present the devastating album’s opening track “Scorbutics” online at their newly designed MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/officialasphyx

Vocalist Martin van Drunen checks in and comments as follows:

“Right, you ultra-mean deathsters! We're proud to present the skullcrushing opening track "Scorbutics" from our new album "Death...The Brutal Way". I guess there's nothing to be said. This is Asphyx in its purest form. Our long-time fans know what to expect and we're damn sure we didn't disappoint them. Check it out and bang your head to this one....be sure to have some
cold beers in the fridge for the thirst that comes up afterwards! You can now also check the cover artwork from "Death...The Brutal Way” and again, what's there more to be said?! Death and Asphyx…That's what it is! A barren wasteland (of terror, haha)! A true dark masterpiece that fits in an excellent way to the most brutal piece of pure death/doom we ever made! In the line-up consisting of Martin van Drunen (Vocals), Wannes Gubbels (Bass/Vocals), Paul Baayens (Guitar) and Bob Bagchus (Drums), these old school metal icons recorded “Death…The Brutal Way” at Sonic Assault Studio with Frank Klein Douwel. Afterwards, the album was mixed and mastered by the none less legendary Dan Swanö (Bloodbath, Edge Of Sanity, Hail Of Bullets etc.). Transferring the band’s classic trademarks of doomy, macabre death metal into the year 2009, “Death…The Brutal Way” is easily the heaviest ASPHYX album to date and the first to feature the titanic roar of Martin van Drunen since 1992’s classic “Last One On Earth”!

Next to upcoming appearances at high-profile festivals like Deathfeast and With Full Force, ASPHYX have lined-up an exclusive album release club-show for “Death…The Brutal Way” on Saturday, July 4th at Turock in Essen, Germany. Le concert d'ASPHYX avec NECROS CHRISTOS et DESASTER à Essen samedi 4 juillet c'était de la boucherie en barre!

Et je viens de capter l'album (avec le dvd du live au party San en 2007!), je suis salement heureux de voir le groupe en si grande forme! En sachant que c'est paul Baayens (gratte, aussi dans THANATOS et HAIL OF BULLETS) qui a composé le plus, je ne peux que m'agenouiller devant le travail accompli! Ca sonne 100 pour 100 ASPHYX. Même Eric Daniels, le gratteux historique du groupe, a donné sa bénédiction en écoutant le nouvel album!

En tant que fan fanissime du groupe je dois dire que je ne m'attendais pas à un retour aussi éclatant! "Death the brutal way" est une tuerie et peut-être même un des meilleurs albums de l'année avec le CANDLEMASS jusqu'à présent.

THE COMPANY OF UNDERTAKERS (TCOU) is an new project that former ASPHYX guitarist Eric Daniels is currently involved in again. The line-up gets completed by Bob Bagchus (ASPHYX / SOULBURN) on drums, Theo van Eekelen (HAIL OF BULLETS) on bass, Paul Baayens (ASPHYX / HAIL OF BULLETS) on guitars and Martin van Drunen (ASPHYX / HAIL OF BULLETS) on vocals. Chris Reifert (AUTOPSY) and Jörgen Sandström (GRAVE) will furthermore contribute backing vocals. According to Eric's myspace site they are in the process of writing material ("oldschool Death Metal the brutal way") with plans for a CD release sometime in 2010. Here's an official statement from Eric: "After 8 years of doing nothing in music, being busy with other interests, it feels like reborn to pick up that piece of wood with 6 strings again. With the most imagineable energy and inspiration right now I am busy writing riffs for the new side-project TCOU (THE COMPANY OF UNDERTAKERS), together with my best friends of ASPHYX and other great Death musicians. It feels like back with my family, back with my friends who have the same interests and play the pure Death Metal with their hearts as it was and is mentioned to be... I like to add my deepest respects and hails towards the ASPHYX fans worldwide who supported me for the full 100% during my active membership of ASPHYX and who kept supporting me!
