Heaven & Hell were set to play High Voltage Festival and when news came through that despite the amazing progress he was making Ronnie wouldn’t be well enough to tour this appearance and other European dates were cancelled.
But now, remaining members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice will join with Glenn Hughes and Jorn Lande at High Voltage Festival to host ‘A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio’ on Saturday 24 July 2010: the only live tribute to Ronnie this summer.
Former Deep Purple / Black Sabbath star Glenn Hughes was a close friend of Ronnie’s for many years and performed a musical tribute at Ronnie’s funeral service in Los Angeles. Norwegian Jorn Lande is best known in the UK as the vocalist for power metal band Masterplan; he has also released many solo albums including a tribute to Ronnie. It promises to be a fitting celebration to a man that the metal scene owes so much and High Voltage is proud and privileged to be hosting this tribute .
High Voltage Festival will be making a donation to the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout” Cancer Fund.

On the 16th May 2010 Ronnie James Dio passed away and the world of music mourned the loss of the greatest voice of heavy metal.

Dio was a truly iconic figure in music, whose work with Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and most recently Heaven & Hell defined a genre.

Heaven & Hell were set to be on the road in Europe this summer when news came through that despite the amazing progress he was making Ronnie wouldn't be well enough to tour and those shows were canceled. But now, remaining members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice are set to play a one off show to celebrate his life and work. The band will be completed by Glenn Hughes and Jorn Lande who will both contribute vocals. I know everyone has heard that a million times before, but seeing one of your best friends die because we all think we're immune from this disease, really brings it home. Tony Iommi says "Ronnie's passing has left a huge hole, we hadn't anywhere near finished what we set out to do as a band together. He was so looking forward to the European tour and we hope this appearance will go some way to fulfilling that."

The Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Cancer Fund Program Description

*The fund is committed to the early detection and prevention of cancer through facilitating access to medical screening and medical educational programs.

*The fund supports programs designed to integrate medical knowledge into local communities such as cancer screening programs, education on nutrition in cancer prevention, exercise and overall wellness."

*The goal of the fund is to reduce the risk of developing life threatening cancers by offering access to preventative medical services."

*Furthering the commitment for patients to access to quality medical care related to cancer, the fund seeks to assist families burdened by the cost of caring for loved ones with cancer."

Iommi :

"This will be the first and only tribute we're doing to Ronnie," Iommi said. "Not that that's wrong, but we feel that it would be really nice to do this for him. And he'd really like that, I know he would. And Glenn Hughes has also been a part of the family for many years — he was a really good friend of Ronnie's; they were very close, and he was very close with us — so we think it would be apt to use Glenn. And Glenn's a great vocalist. And Jorn Lande, of course — I don't know if you're familiar with him, but he's also a very big fan of Ronnie's and a great singer."

Q: Are you hoping to add on more [singers] for the tribute show?

Iommi: "Well, we don't know yet. We're gonna start rehearsals a week before and see what happens. After this, we'll see what happens and who comes forward. It's difficult because it's something we just wanna do for Ronnie. It's not a thing to say, 'Well , here we are.' We wanna do something for him and focus on him. And we want the best singers that [are] gonna sing and produce as close as what Ronnie would. We wanna do it for the fans, because it was sort of a sudden exit, really, because we were supposed to have been doing a tour. I was talking to Ronnie two weeks ago, and he said, 'I've gotta have this new chemo, but I think it's working.' And that was the real big shock of it, because within a week of that, he had passed away. So it was a big shock for all of us, because we built ourselves up to do it and, of course, we didn't expect to lose... Ronnie was always a person you thought would always be there — very strong, great within the band; we had a great relationship. [He was] a fantastic person, [and he] loved his fans. And that's why we wanna do this show, because we owe it to the fans to do this show. We're not cashing in — it's all for charity. It all goes to charity. We just wanna do it for him and the fans. I know Ronnie would be behind us in whatever we do — he's that sort of person. And he would love for his music to be played. That's what he lived for — he lived for his fans and his music and his friends. It's a closure for us as well. Unfortunately, it's a shame it's not with him, but... that's it."

Q: Musically-wise, what will be able to expect [at the High Voltage show]?

Iommi: "I don't know yet. I don't know. We're gonna play a selection of stuff we'd done with Ronnie. Again, it's wide open, because we don't know who's gonna sing what and we haven't got there yet. It's all relatively new; we've only just decided to do this. So we're doing a list of songs that we think people would like to hear. And we've only got an hour so we can't do a fat lot, unless they can push it a bit. But we'd like to do that — we'd like to play two hours, but it's down to... ZZ TOP are gonna be on [after us], so they wouldn't appreciate that. But we'll see. We were really looking forward to doing it with Ronnie, and I think it will be a great festival to be at; there are some great acts. Yeah, absolutely come along."

Sinon y a pas encore les running orders mais je ne fais pas trop de souci.
L'essentiel de ce que je veux voir le Samedi est sur la scene principale et pour le Dimanche c'est sur la prog stage (en esperant quand même qu'ils vont pas faire jouer ELP en même temps que Marillion).

Tain n'empeche quand je repense à la setlist de Gary Moore ....

bah toi tu n'écoutes pas que des groupes de tarlouses...bah moi c'est pareil...

pour te donner une petite idée...j'y vais pour ELP e priorité c'est sûr puis: ZZTop, Heaven & Hell tribute (même si bon on aurait préféré avec Dio), Foreigner, Gary Moore, Saxon, Cathedral, Orange Goblin, Transatlantic et Focus le samedi...ELP donc, Joe Bonnamassa, Down, Clutch, High on Fire, Marillion, Uriah Heep, Steve Hackett et Wishbone Ash le dimanche.

@ Nico: Je viens de recevoir un mail de l'orga...il faut donc ta confirmation de réservation (le numéro principalement), la carte de crédit qui a servi à la commande du billet, et une pièce d'identité pour pouvoir récupérer ton bracelet à l'entrée !!!
