Les américains et leur metal folk/prog/heavy/rock/70's/doom/british/inclassable ont signé chez Metal Blade, qui va rééditer 4 des précédents albums.
Prochain skeud en 2011.

Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of San Francisco's progressive metal outfit HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE. Metal Blade will reissue four of the band's previous releases in late summer 2010, with a new studio album expected in 2011.

Commented guitarist and founding member John Cobbett: "Metal Blade contacted us in April of 2009. After some back-and-forth we came to an agreement that will allow HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE to continue making albums the way we always have: unsupervised and self-produced. Also, we grew up on Metal Blade releases — from DESTRUCTION and SLAYER to TROUBLE and FATES WARNING — so we feel pretty good about that."

Added Metal Blade founder and CEO Brian Slagel: "We are really happy and honored to have signed HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE. I have been a huge fan for awhile now and I personally am really excited to work with them."

Formed by the eclectic and versatile guitarist John Cobbett (GWAR, LUDICRA, SLOUGH FEG, AMBER ASYLUM, JARBOE) in the late '90s, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE started as an exercise in songwriting and making coherent full-length albums. The band is made up of some of the most talented musicians John Cobbett and co. can find. Cobbett explains, "I set out to do it this way from the beginning. Having been in a dozen or so bands that broke up before realizing their potential, I decided that the songs and albums were the most important thing. So I formed a 'break-up-proof' project that depends more on good material and strong albums than a consistent lineup."

One thing that is consistent, though, is that HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE has always consisted of John Cobbett (guitars) and Chewy Marzolo (drums), with Sigrid Sheie (keys, voice, flute) being another a longterm member of the group. Bassist Max Barnett (ex-OLD GRANDAD) has been with the group for over a year now and HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE recently added Leila Abdul-Rauf (ex-SAROS) on guitar and vocals.

Yeah classe! Ils vont avoir une meilleure distribution, et en plus ils ont négocié pour ne pas rester indépendants dans leur manière de composer et d'enregistrer.

C'est cool.

Mais faut voir comme le groupe évolue car leur dernier double album est un peu moins inspiré que "the august engine" et "the locust years". En gros je préfère leur période avec Mike Scalzi (SLOUGH FEG), sa voix unique collait vachement mieux au groupe.

les goûts et les couleurs, ça ne se discute certes pas mais contrairement à toi, je préfère le double album "Fields/Church of Broken Glass" à "The august Engine".
Mais tout est bon dans ce groupe!

Due in Europe on October 24 (three days earlier in Germany), "17th Street" takes the band's inimitable sound to a new level, creating an emotional gravity that only further accentuates the band's formidable songwriting chops. "I can see how someone could find it an upbeat record," says John Cobbett, guitarist and producer of the band, also of underground metal legends LUDICRA and SLOUGH FEG. "There are glimmers of hope there. But if you listen carefully to each song, you'll find that each one has its own point of view; you might find hope, or something very different, very dark."

From tomorrow (Tuesday, September 7) on, you can hear the first single "The Grain", which has been made into a lyric video.

Fans can now pre-order a copy of the album, which is available on both CD and double LP gatefold vinyl.

Acheté au Hammer of doom, je l'ai pas mal fait tourner, pour en arriver à ce constat, et ça me fait mal de le dire, mais c'est sûrement leur plus mauvais album....
Certes ça reste toujours bien sympa, il y a de bons morceaux,avec quelques rares passages vraiment géniaux, mais dans l'ensemble cet album est loin d'être aussi bon que ce qu'ils ont sorti par le passé.
Un petit manque d'inspiration qui j'espère sera dissipé sur le prochain opus...

A moi! Réaction à chaud.
Perso je le préfère légèrement à Fields/Church que je ne ressors vraiment jamais. Faudra voir après sur la longueur. Celui-là est plus compact déjà (il y a beaucoup moins de titres). A plusieurs reprises j'ai repensé à The Locust Years niveau compos (je pense notamment à The Day The City Died) mais pour moi le chant masculin passe vraiment mal. C'est clair que je préférais Mike (et de très, très loin), je sais pas si c'est moi qui m'invente mais je trouve ça moins sombre depuis 2 albums.

Sinon c'est vrai que jusqu'à présent chaque album était assez différent du précédent The Bastard-The August-Locust-Fields (sans même parler d'unholy cadaver) alors que là ça fait un peu best of des deux derniers je trouve. Après, ça reste très écoutable quand même mais j'ai un peu de mal à m'enthousiasmer pour ce skeud (faut dire que là j'ai un peu du mal à écouter autre chose que le nouveau The Devil's Blood )
Et puis niveau artwork depuis deux albums

Ca n'a rien à voir mais le LP de August Engine il commence à être chaud à trouver, non? Y a 2 ans on le trouvait partout sur e-bay et, là, je galère sévère. J'ai trouvé qu'un gars sur le e-bay allemand qui en voulait 80 euros...donc je suis en train de voir directement avec John pour qu'il me l'expédie des E.U

Avis forcément différent puisque Fields/church est pou moi leur meilleur album! J'adore cette double gallette.

Sinon, je l'ai vu en bac à 20 euros le LP de auguste engine au Hammer of doom, alors ne mets surtout pas 80 euros là dedans.

Rien que sur le site du groupe on peut l'acheter pour 18$ (+ 7$ de FDP)
