Même si ce n'est pas forcément le batteur que j'aurais espéré (Bobby Rondinelli ?), et même si c'est foncièrement du gâchis sans Bill Ward, au fond je préfère largement Brad Wilk à l'autre brute sans feeling de Tommy Clufetos. Ou même à Vinny Appice dont le jeu était (de son propre avis) très décevant sur The Devil you Know. Bon ce n'était pas forcément de sa faute, mais plutôt celle des autres qui l'ont forcé à jouer comme un robot.
En espérant donc que Brad Wilk aura plus de liberté de s'exprimer, sinon quel que soit le batteur ça sera monotone.

On BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi's cancer treatment:
Butler: "Tony's responding really well. He's been having his treatment now for 14 months, and he's really responding well to it. So he'll be alright. You can never stop Tony."
On the incident at SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne's home in Beverly Hills earlier this month which resulted in Ozzy burning his hand:
Butler: "He's doing alright. He burnt his hand when he was putting the fire out. He's got it in a plaster cast."
On BLACK SABBATH's new album title, "13":
Butler: "Well, it was sort of a temporary name, that we had something to refer to the album as, and I think it kind of stuck. But I don't know if that's gonna be the final title or not. [It was named partly because it's coming out in the year 2013] and originally, we were gonna put 13 tracks on the album. We ended up doing 16 tracks, so I'm not sure what's gonna on the album and what isn't."
On the recording process for "13":
Butler: "This is the first time we've done an album together sober; none of us have been drinking or doing drugs or anything, so it's been more professional in that way. And we've stuck to a schedule every day. We'd go in at one o'clock and finish at six, just to keep everything fresh. Five hours a day — that's it."
On the inspiration for the new BLACK SABBATH album:
Butler: "It's sort of got the feel of the first three albums — back to the basic rawness. And the lyrics are very… They're just about life…. Life and death and doom and everything else. You get Prozac with every album."
On BLACK SABBATH's touring plans:
Butler: "We start in New Zealand and Australia in April, and then we do Japan. Then we do album promotion in June and then USA in July and August. Then South America and then Europe … [The USA trek] will be strictly [a] BLACK SABBATH [tour and not an Ozzfest run]."
On having RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's Brad Wilk play on the new BLACK SABBATH album:
Butler: "That was [producer] Rick Rubin's idea, 'cause he wanted to have… He didn't want a typical heavy metal drummer on the album, 'cause it's not really a heavy metal album; it's more of a rock… heavy rock. And Rick Rubin suggested having Brad, 'cause he's more in the vein of [original BLACK SABBATH drummer] Bill Ward. So we jammed with him and he sounded great with the stuff, so we went with that … It's sort of back to the way we used to be in the '70s; that's his feel — sort of a jazzy, bluesy feel to him, and that's the way the music is now. It was great working with him."
On who the touring drummer will be:
Butler: "We haven't decided yet."

Legendary heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH will release its much-anticipated new album, "13", in June via Vertigo/Universal Republic in the U.S. and Vertigo in all other territories. The drum tracks on the group's first LP with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978 were laid down by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE sticksman Brad Wilk following original drummer Bill Ward's decision to bow out of the reunion.
Osbourne, Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) recorded the album primarily in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "God Is Dead", "End Of The Beginning" and "Age Of Reason", the latter two of which stretch out to as long as eight minutes.
"I wanted to make an album that stood alongside their first four albums," Rubin tells RollingStone.com. "The first album wasn't a straightforward heavy metal record. You could hear the jazz influence, so that was the goal, and to capture that live interaction."
Ward in May 2012 announced again that he was declining to join his former bandmates for its scheduled 2012 dates, as well as the recording of the new album, due to a contractual dispute. After SABBATH shot down Rubin's suggestion to replace Ward with Ginger Baker (CREAM) ("I thought, 'Bloody hell?'" Iommi tells the magazine. "I just couldn't see that."), Rick suggested Wilk.
Iommi tells RollingStone.com that Ward's demands came out of the blue. "I didn't know Bill was having these issues when we got together — he never even mentioned it to us," he says. "It was quite confusing. We wanted him involved, but it was just getting too hard." Adds Osbourne: "You can't go, 'Well, I don't like it.' You get off your ass and get your shit together. The life of a bohemian rock star is fucking long over."
Iommi was diagnosed with cancer at the end of 2011, and his treatments forced BLACK SABBATH to cancel all but three tour dates in 2012 after announcing their reunion in November 2011.
"Things are fairly good, dare I say, at the moment," Iommi tells RollingStone.com. "I'm still here and it's okay. We had to do this album now. Christ, if it happened in another 10 years, I don't know if we'd be around."
Osbourne, who describes the new SABBATH album as "Satanic blues," also spoke about one of the band's new tracks, the provocatively titled "God Is Dead". "It starts off, 'God is dead,'" Osbourne says, "but at the end it says, 'I don't believe that God is dead.'"

Ok ok, c'est un élément fondamental, mais de là à tomber dans le truc "ils devraient changer de nom"...
Je n'ai jamais vu personne ici remettre en question la formation actuelle sous le nom de Deep Purple qui pour moi est dans ce cas encore plus contestable que celle du Sab' ....
Idem pour Van Halen sans Michael Anthony... Même si dans ce cas précis c'est plus compliqué vu que la formation porte le nom deux mecs du groupe. (enfin, trois maintenant ...)
Je suis bien d'accord avec toi, mais le problème est que dans certains cas, y a des toujours des musiciens faisant encore partie du groupe et possédant une part suffisamment importante des droits, notamment sur le nom, pour faire pression et poser leur véto sur la désignation de toute formation concurrente, comme avec HEAVEN & HELL justement, ASIA, GREAT WHITE, WISHBONE ASH, BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST et consorts...

A mon avis l'irritation des fans ne vient pas tant de l'absence de Bill Ward (même si elle est préjudiciable et qu'il n'est pas remplaçable à l'identique) que du pataquès médiatique que le groupe a fait autour de cette "reformation-ultime-de-tous-les-4-avant-qu'on-clamse-alors-achetez-l'abum-et-venez-nous-voir".
Quand on promet beaucoup, forcément ça énerve et frustre les gens si le résultat n'est pas celui attendu.
S'ils avaient été plus prudents (du moins leurs managers) et n'avaient pas cherché le buzz à tout prix, et avaient attendu d'avoir un line-up contractualisé avant d'annoncer un album, ça se passerait peut-être autrement.
C'est finalement le même genre de chose que pour WASP et leur dernière tournée pseudo-anniversaire à coups de publicité mensongère.

J'arrive pas trop à m'intéresser à ce Black Sabbath là. C'est franchement trop pathétique. Autant, la reformation avec Dio m'avait suffisamment excitée au point de faire des centaines de bornes pour les voir autant celle là me laisse de marbre. Ozzy le mort-vivant me fait pitié depuis des années grâce à son Show TV ( merci Sharon) et j'arrive vraiment plus à prendre au sérieux le moindre de ses projets musicaux. Bref, tout ça pue trop pour moi.
