Doug Aldrich quitte Whitesnake, remplacé par Joel Hoekstra

Après 12 ans de collaboration avec David Coverdale, Doug Aldrich quitte le groupe.

Je suis assez étonné de ce départ... et un peu déçu aussi.

Edit : rigolo, au moment où j'écris ce message, c'est la bannière Dotf de Whitesnake/1987 qui apparait.

Oui, le retour de Adrian Vandenberg serait vraiment top...
Surtout qu'il n'a jamais vraiment eu l'occasion de briller sur les albums de Whitesnake
Mais il doit être bien occupé avec son nouveau groupe "Vandenberg's Moonkings"

D'un autre coté, l'activité actuelle de Whitesnake ne suffit peut être pas à faire vivre un collaborateur.

Aldrich était devenu le compositeur principal de Whitesnake, Coverdale va devoir reprendre une pointure. J'aurais aimé Sykes mais malheureusement ça n'arrivera sans doute jamais.

Autant qu'il arrête les frais surtout. Ou alors qu'il sorte des albums "solo" de blues rock qui conviendraient mieux à ses capacités actuelles.

J'ai jamais aimé Whitesnake, donc j'espère que Doug Aldruch utilisera son temps à bon escient !

Même si tout son travail solo n'est pas non plus inoubliable !

Doug explique son départ :

Said Doug: "As there is still some question regarding my situation with WHITESNAKE, I want to officially clear the air.

"I can confirm that on May 7th, I made the insanely difficult decision to leave the WHITESNAKE band.

"At that time, although not contractually bound, I moved forward with David [Coverdale, WHITESNAKE singer and leader] starting pre-production for an upcoming WHITESNAKE project. Coinciding with my with the start of that project, I also had several recording and live commitments, so I needed a more flexible schedule to conclude these before going full force as normal. Unfortunately, my schedule was not workable.

"As usual, the results between me and David were extremely positive and fun, so that made the decision even harder.

"I treasured my 11-plus years in the band. Two studio records, two DVDs, three live records and roughly 30 Coverdale/Aldrich songs! Killer...

"The privilege of being an ambassador for WHITESNAKE is a responsibility I took very seriously.

"David started the band 35 years ago with high integrity. It was an honor to maintain that standard while I was in. And now, like lots of great things, it has come to an end.

"I want to thank the great WHITESNAKE band. Reb [Beach, guitar], Michael [Devin, bass], Tommy [Aldridge, drums], Big Foot [Brian] Tichy, Rudy [Sarzo], Marco [Mendoza], Uriah [Duffy], Timothy [Drury] and the Fraz [Chris Frazier] for the good times, great shows and records always kicking major ass over these years. The opportunity travel the world together with such amazing musicians in so many countries was just unreal.

"For me, this is a new beginning and area of my musical future. I'll definitely be moving forward working on new music, recording and touring and will have a bit more time to pursue some offers that I never had time to fit in before. A fresh start, new ideas, and another chance to push myself as a musician.

"Thank you, brother DC, for the great times and for allowing me space to put my heart and soul into the history of your great band."

franchement je comprends tout à fait sa décision, 12 ans c'est beaucoup et ce gars a un talent incroyable, il est temps qu'ils monte un truc à lui !!!

Non la séance de mime est pathétique mais je voulais surtout vous faire profiter de la meilleure interview de tous les temps... DC est super gêné (et vexé) mais reste flegmatique...

Le remplaçant d'Aldrich aurait déjà été trouvé, d'après Coverdale, on devrait donc connaître son nom bientôt...

Il s'agit de Joel Hoekstra (NIGHT RANGER), qui est dans le groupe depuis fin mai, donc il a été trouvé rapidement.

One of the first, if not the first, guitarists to put his name forward after hearing that Doug Aldrich had left the band, was an exceptionally talented musician whom we had met briefly last year when his band opened for Whitesnake in Arizona.

Everyone was very impressed by him, not only for his ability to play amazing guitar, but, also, his very agreeable personality & he was definitely foremost in our minds when we began to search for Doug’s replacement in Whitesnake.

We jammed together & were mutually impressed enough to ask him to join Whitesnake on the spot. This was May 30th. 2014.

Joel is currently fulfilling his remaining tour dates with Night Ranger.

Hoekstra ressemble un peu à Aldrich (blond, dégaine...), qui lui-même ressemblait un peu à Sykes... il y a des pré-requis physiques pour le poste?

En tout cas il a l'air bon, je n'avais jamais lu son nom auparavant.

Je connais pas.
Mais pour l'anecdote, OUI, il y a des prérequis physiques. Reb Beach racontait que Coverdale ne veux pas de "grey snakes", donc teinture des cheveux (et de la barbe dans son cas) obligatoire !
