Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has told The Oakland Press that he is working on a covers album featuring songs that were originally written and recorded by THE DOORS, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and THE WHO, members of the so-called "Hollywood vampires" of the early and mid-'70s. A 2014 release is expected.
Back in March, Cooper told RollingStone.com about the upcoming CD: "We do a thing in our show, which is a tribute to Hollywood Vampires, my drinking club," Cooper explained. "And it was Keith Moon, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Micky Dolenz — a very eclectic bunch of drunks. Half of them are dead, so we do four songs in the show in tribute to them. We do 'Break On Through', 'Revolution', 'My Generation' and Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxey Lady'. I just kind of said, 'We've never done a covers album, let's think about that.' So [producer Bob] Ezrin and I are kind of bouncing it around right now."
Asked what some of the wish-list songs are, Cooper said: "I would keep it right to about '73, '74. I don't want to just go anywhere. I want to keep it right in that sort of drunk era, so it's specific. I would say 'Break On Through', that's a really good rock track there. The other ones, think of it — Harry Nilsson, there's a lot of good stuff there that could be rocked out. I think of songs as being clay. Take a song like 'Jump Into the Fire' and take that to a harder level, and that'll work."

Concernant l'album de reprises, 4 ou 5 nouveaux morceaux devraient y figurer :
Alice Cooper is putting the finishing touches on a covers album featuring songs that were originally written and recorded by THE DOORS, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and THE WHO, members of the so-called "Hollywood vampires" of the early and mid-'70s. The disc, which is expected out this spring, will also include "four or five new songs," which the legendary rocker wrote specifically for the new CD. He tells VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner: "We decided that in order to set up the 'Hollywood Vampires' thing, you had to kind of tell the story, and you had to write songs that were going to set up the story, and then get into the covers. So we had fun sitting there writing these new songs around it. So it's going to be quite a package, this thing is."

En attendant, Orianthi quitte le groupe et est remplacée par Nita Strauss (The Iron Maidens) :
Following the April premiere of "Super Duper Alice Cooper" at the Tribeca Film Festival, and the subsequent release of the documentary on DVD, Blu-ray, deluxe editions, and digital formats this month via Eagle Rock Entertainment, rock's greatest showman Alice Cooper heads out on a lengthy North American tour. The summer trek starts with three shows in Michigan June 26-28 before Cooper joins MÖTLEY CRÜE's final "All Bad Things Must Come To An End" tour as a very special guest on July 2, running through late November. The tour marks the debut of Alice's new guitarist Nita Strauss (pictured), who was recently ranked #1 on Guitar World's list of "10 Female Guitar Players You Should Know." She takes the place of Orianthi, who has toured with Alice for the past few years.
Nita, who has made her name in bands, including THE IRON MAIDENS and FEMME FATALE, joins Alice's band's three-guitar attack, which also features guitarists Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen, plus longtime bassist Chuck Garric and drummer Glen Sobel.

Beaucoup d'actualité en ce moment, avec cette sortie de comics :

Comic book and graphic novel publisher Dynamite last year announced that legendary rock star Alice Cooper will star in an upcoming comic book series, slated to launch in September 2014. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, which his being written by "X-Files" writer Joe Harris with art by Eman Casallos, recasts the musician as the guardian of humanity's dreams.
"We're doing many cool things with Dynamite, beginning with a new comics series which I am very excited about," Cooper said in a statement.
"I always say that the best thing about being in a comic book is that they draw you with great abs!
"Artistically, for me there is hardly a better medium. There is so much you can do in the form of a comic that we'd never been able to do on stage. It's just a different way of storytelling, and it really has almost limitless possibilities.
"We're looking forward to stretching the existing boundaries of the comic medium again.
"We have new stories to tell, but we'll do it with the same theatrical, sinister sensibility that comes with the name 'Alice Cooper.' This is just the beginning! Welcome to my NEW Nightmares!"
Renowned as the "Godfather of Shock Rock", Alice Cooper is an icon of rock 'n roll with a career spanning five decades. A Detroit native, Cooper has released 26 albums over the course of his illustrious career, and maintains a reputation as one of the most theatrical live performers in history, often incorporating elaborate horror movie and vaudeville sensibilities into his stage shows. In addition to his musical career, he is an avid golfer, film actor, restaurateur, and radio DJ.
Alice Cooper has been a subject and contributor to comic books over the years, first appearing as the centerpiece of a 1972 issue of Marvel Premiere. As a companion to his 1994 concept album "The Last Temptation", Cooper released a graphic novel of the same name, written by bestselling and critically acclaimed author Neil Gaiman ("The Sandman", "American Gods", "Coraline") and illustrated by Michael Zulli. Cooper also contributed a story in the Treehouse Of Horror comic in 1995, a Halloween-themed spin-off from "The Simpsons".
"Alice Cooper's on-stage persona, the ultimate shock rocker, is perfect for comic books," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and publisher of Dynamite. "From his comic book debut in Marvel Premiere to 'The Last Temptation' by Neil Gaiman, I've enjoyed the appearances Alice has made in comics.
"We are excited to develop captivating and hypnotic comic storylines that incorporate the Sinister Showman's gothic flair and grandiose vision. This is going to be one hell of a ride!"

Mais aussi Paul McCartney!
According to RollingStone.com, THE BEATLES legend Paul McCartney, actor Johnny Depp and AEROSMITH's Joe Perry make appearances on the forthcoming album from legendary rocker Alice Cooper featuring songs that were originally written and recorded by THE DOORS, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and THE WHO — members of the so-called "Hollywood Vampires" of the early and mid-'70s. Perry has contributed to several tracks on the CD, while McCartney will be heard on a new version of "Come And Get It", the song he wrote and produced for BADFINGER.
"He knew all the chords, the lyrics, everything," Perry said. "He didn't have any cheat sheets. It was like he'd been playing it his whole life. Me and Alice and Johnny were standing there and looking at each other, and I tell you — if there's any ego-lever in a room, it's Paul. It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done. If Paul's in the room, he's there. It was hard to focus on playing."
The HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES band — featuring Cooper, Perry and Depp — will perform at the Rock In Rio festival in late September, with more tour dates scheduled for that month.
During Cooper's appearance on the February 9 edition of Eddie Trunk's SiriusXM satellite radio show, "Eddie Trunk Live", the legendary rocker spoke about his upcoming CD. He said: "I figured I'm gonna do a covers album. I've never done a covers album before. And I was talking to [producer] Bob Ezrin, and I said, 'Let's be specific then. Let's honor our dead drunk friends.' And we started going through the songs of who and what songs it would be, and it was really… You know, I mean, we said, 'Oh, yeah. We've gotta do that.' And then the [guest musicians] started showing up and saying, 'Hey, I wanna play on that,' and, 'I wanna play on that.' I can't tell you who's on what right now, 'cause it's not gonna be released yet, but it's the 'who's who' of everything. [Laughs] It was one of those things where, at one point, I'm looking around in the studio and I'm going, 'Holy crap! Look who's in the studio.'"
Cooper previously revealed that the upcoming album will include "four or five new songs," which the legendary rocker wrote specifically for the new effort. He told VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner: "We decided that in order to set up the 'Hollywood Vampires' thing, you had to kind of tell the story, and you had to write songs that were going to set up the story, and then get into the covers. So we had fun sitting there writing these new songs around it. So it's going to be quite a package, this thing is."
